Duggars adopting another baby

So I've been seeing news headlines a lot this week crying about how Michelle is planning to adopt her 20th.

I know no sane person would give them a baby, but seriously, why isn't anybody realizing something is wrong with her?

Didn't they already adopt Ben Seewald as a teenager?  They keep that child busy mowing lawns and pottering around in the garage for pocket money.

What adoption agency would adopt to parents who let their daughters live with a boy who molested them and then covered everything up?

I think they could swing a private fundie adoption or maybe some sort of private big money overseas adoption.  Certainly anything requiring social worker reports would be out of the question, since they've been in hot water thanks to Josh.  Money could get them a child, for sure.

Maybe some poor unfortunate teen would want the Duggars to adopt her out of wedlock child, thinking the child would be famous on TV?

Bizarre that they would want to adopt. J'Chelle seems to enjoy pregnancy but not raising her children. Most were raised by the older siblings. So they want to give an orphan the gift of life long ignorance? Does Jana know that she will be raising another blessing? Is there a specific unplanned fundie baby that they are considering?

When I did some googling, In Touch (which granted... broke the Joshley story), cited Life&Style as the original source. I am not sure how credible this story is, and I feel like it has been floating around for a while.

This is a quote from the In Touch article:

The source adds they’re open to anything, explaining, “Michelle says she doesn’t care if they adopt a boy or a girl, or what ethnicity the child is. She says she just wants to help a child’s life.”

I think she'd be more help, if she didn't adopt the child. :my_confused:

I have adopted internationally and there are social work reports background checks for anyone over 18 living in the house.  Rules and regulations are as strict as domestic adoptions...maybe even stricter in order for everything to be Hague compliant.

I've been waxing on about my woes for a day or two and hadn't gone anywhere else. But when this topic pops as the next one up one is obligated to make sure it's probably bullshit. Your heart just goes "eek,no,no way"

I just can't see any court giving them another child. They would need a special exception. Because of the number of kids they have. What judge would give it to them?

That's why I'll bet it will be a private adoption through one of their ATI associated connections.  If you have a child, you can place it with whoever you want without socialworker reports.  All it takes is a lawyer and a quick court hearing.

Well, at least the article says they've just started looking into it, not that they have actually been approved to adopt. Maybe once they look into it enough to realize that they will not be allowed to adopt under most circumstances they'll give it up.

I agree with those who think that their best chance would probably be to arrange a private adoption, or MAYBE if they were willing to adopt a special needs child, since a lot of times the rules are more relaxed for children that have challenges that make it harder to find placement for them. There are enough people that want to adopt a healthy newborn that it seems that most of the time it is really quite difficult, time consuming, and expensive to get approved to adopt if you're only willing to accept a healthy infant. Once I understood how hard the process can be to adopt, I realized that it is actually quite unkind for people to tell infertile couples they should just adopt a kid instead. Not everyone is really capable of adopting a special needs kid or handling the special emotional issues that a kid who has been in foster care might have.

However, I don't really picture the Duggars as being the type of people who would intentionally adopt a special needs child, even if they were aware that as Michelle kept having babies into her 40s they were making it increasingly likely that she would end up giving birth to a child with special needs.

I think this is a just a bullshit way for the Duggars to get some media attention.

Let's hope so, although I too think that it would be completely possible for the Duggars to obtain a child through some shady private adoption with some AT I henchmen.

Adopting a baby is different from buying a baby.

Maybe Jill is scouting around for a baby for ME to adopt from the orphanage?

Poor child, whomever he/she may be.

Maybe Michelle wants the nice even 20 kids to finish with boy, and bestow upon him a new J name of course.

Spoiler

Then she and Jim Bob can claim that he is ....

The last, and chosen, Juan.

yes, I went there.  Sorry, not sorry :my_cool:

Remember, this is Arkansas, where state senators can hand off adopted children to child molesters and people more or less just shrug.  Maybe J and M think this would be a way to get some specials featuring them instead of their ungrateful daughters.

Even if they go international or through a private agency there are still local and fbi checks, on everyone over 18 in the home. There is a home study. There must be enough room around each bed, and the parents have to have enough income to support the kids. They would be very low on the list for a possible adoption.

Of course, if someone wanted to give them guardianship, or re-home (re-gift?) a child that might be possible. Poor child.

As far as I know, Guatemala hasn't been allowing foreign adoptions for the past 3 years or more.  I believe the Guatemalan government was pressured by the US to stop foreign adoptions until the Guatemalan adoption law was Hague compliant.  This hasn't happened yet.

While almost anything is possible in many countries if you grease the right palms, I don't see the Duggars having that kind of money.  Plus, if there is any suspicion of shadiness (and there would be) the US might not let them bring the child into the country.

My sweet pup was diagnosed with a brain tumor in September. She passed away in my arms on Thanksgiving morning. It all happened so fast. She didn't want to eat anything the day before, but prior to that was ok. Knew it was near time and had booked an appointment to take her next week. However, she decided for me. She was only 8 and really was one of the best dogs. She never met a stranger, human or dog. Life isn't the same without her.

I made my first Granny Square! After nearly 30 years of knitting and crocheting this was a project I never did. Until now! I needed something to do with my rest of very colourful yarn and now I am very happy. I need to try different needles with my yarns but I think I found something nice for the future.
I needed only 3 different youtube videos until I found a person who explained the concept slowly and repetitive and with words I can understand. I hate when these tutorials make me feel dumb.

We had to put our 14 year old dachshund, Trinket, down today.  She was fine Thursday, but by mid-morning yesterday, it was apparent that something was really wrong,  She had zero energy, lost her appetite and began walking into corners.  By morning I knew it was time for her to have her final visit to the vet.  She had lost about a pound and a half recently.  RIP, Trinket!

Horrific! A 6 year old boy was murdered, and mother severly injured, in a hate crime in Chicago. Reports say they are both Palestinian Muslims and were specifically targeted because of that. Thankfully the man who did it is in custody
      This is pure evil
