The Lord called Steve home from corporate America blah blah blah is on their website. To me that sounds like he took the plunge and quit his job to pursue something he really believed in.

However.. having found a few old posts from the Leavenworth Homeschoolers' group Steve and Teri used to lead, (via the wayback machine thingywhatsit, sorry, don't have the links) Teri refers to Steve actually having been made redundant.

Also, their website refers to a business called Corporate Communications (Nathan and Christopher are full time) but Steve's face is right in there. Joseph and John have their own construction business but it's call Maxwell and Sons.

My question, htf does Steve get time to do all this? Control freak, much?

Am I the only one who finds it amusing that the Maxwell's (Maxwells'? I'm now confused) old HS group is also named after a famous prison? How appropriate, don't you think? :eusa-think:

Aw, it's just art imitating life.

Well, he has recently claimed he was in the army at some point, though it's the first any of us have ever heard of it. After college, he was an engineer. Then the Lord called him to work at home because:

(a) interacting with female coworkers could've tempted him to lust, and even if it didn't, going to work lunches and meetings and things with them gave the appearance of lust and temptation to adultery (I don't really understand how, since I'm sure nothing remotely like this ever entered his coworkers' heads, but Steve seemed pretty insistent on this point. Keep in mind that this is the man who doesn’t trust himself with his own internet passwords, lest he be exposed to something Of The World, which as far as I can surmise is code for going on a massive porn bender)

(b) it was against God's will for him to be away from his children 8 hours a day; he was called be around 24/7 to school them in the Fear of God

Then he pulled his family out of church right around when Sarah and Chris were getting into their late teens, because there was a chance they would meet other people their age and develop crushes/give away pieces of their hearts before marriage, and Steve believes that innocent youth group crushes are exactly the same as fornication and adultery. Oh, and also, their pastor was a football fan, and we all know Steve feels enjoying sports (or enjoying anything at all) is the next worst thing to genocide. That's when he started his one-man show at the nursing home. No theology training except his own neuroses and pathological obsession with death. The whole thing is so arrogant and twisted.

Gah, he is a weak assed bastard, isn't he. Can't be around other wimmin's else he might stumble. Yet we are supposed to look to him as a leader? Um, okay. Right...

Um, I assume it is named after the town they are in...Leavenworth, Kansas. Not the Military Prison.

Yes, he is. He's really a very sad, pathetic little man who is so scared to live, he won't let anyone around him live either for fear that them doing so will break the protection he created for himself behind them.

Probably. It's just that when I hear "Leavenworth" I think of the prison first. Unfortunate, yes, but I can't help that.

I just thought it was funny, since their whole family life is sorta like living in maximum-security prison. Actually, maybe max-security prisoners have more freedoms than the Maxwell daughters.

We too have thought about the impact of Sarah getting married and that is our desire. We know if that happens, God will give grace to accomplish what needs to be done.

We are looking forward to seeing your family again. Sarah is making great progress on her outline. We will all be discussing it this weekend.

Steve

It says right in the bible that marriage isn't for everyone. They keep asking for a husband for Sarah, and he may just drop right in front of her. However, he may not be the right guy. I know to many women who were "desperate" for a husband ending up divorced or in a unhappy marriage.

But, since she's not "trained" for anything else in life, what other option is there for her but marriage.... Steve's turning 60 soon, who will be "over" his unmarried girls when he's gone, and Teri too...

  • 6 years later...

I had my picture snapped at Platform 9 3/4 when I was at King's Cross back in 2003.  There was just a sign there then and since both my daughter and I were big fans, we took a few pictures.
