ex Muslim Converts Storm Catholic Churches

Apparently there's a group of ex Muslim (now Christian) street preachers crashing Catholic masses and a school yard in Las Vegas:

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) - Parishioners are terrified after protesters have disturbed Mass at several Catholic churches across the valley.

The group, Koosha Las Vegas, includes members who clearly identify themselves as former Muslims turned Christians. They've been entering churches during services, shouting at Catholics that they need to repent now or else, and filming the acts and posting them on the internet.

The videos make clear the group has been active on the Las Vegas Strip and several other places around the valley; they're often seen with large signs and megaphones. The difference now is that they're going into houses of worship and causing disturbances. Parishioners tell Action News it's made them fear for their lives.

"Repent, and turn to Jesus Christ. Pope is a Satan! Pope is a Satan! Mary statue is a Satan!" the man behind the camera can be heard shouting.

The videos are taken by the very people passing out the pamphlets and shouting during mass in at least 3 incidents confirmed by police. The Catholic Diocese of Las Vegas confirmed to Action News "multiple disturbances at several of their properties".

"Stop worshipping to the idols! Idols not going to save you! You need Jesus Christ! You need the father, the son, and the holy spirit," the same man can be heard shouting to a group of worshippers during Mass at Our Lady of Las Vegas Catholic Church on December 5.

Parishioners we talked to say they were initially scared because of the recent climate of terrorism, and the group makes clear many members are Muslims turned Christian. Although they're preaching the word of Christ to other Christians, to be told "your religion is not going to save you", clearly audible on video, they said was unsettling.

It's not just happening at church. The same group posted a protest outside Bishop Gorman Catholic School on December 2. In that video, a man can be seen telling students, "If you look at the catechism of the Catholic church and you look at scripture, you know why god hates this religious system."

The scene was so unsettling to some parents that many tried to dismantle it, honking their horns in the video. The man behind the camera can be heard saying "The demons are angry guys. The demons are angry."

Metro Police tell Action News they did take a close look at the incidents and they do not appear to be related to any terrorist threat. They also said no arrests were made because technically no crime was committed.

The Catholic Diocese of Las Vegas says they are working with police to educate clergy across the valley about what has recently happened.

Channel 13 Action News Crime & Safety Expert Randy Sutton weighed in on the incident to say how fearful our community should be after an act like this.

Sutton says, first of all, he disagrees with Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department saying there was no crime committed. He says the men violated a Nevada statute, "disturbing a religious meeting". Sutton says they should absolutely be charged with a crime.

"It's a misdemeanor crime but it is a crime nonetheless, it's on the books for just types of situations like this. There are statues that could be utilized to end this type of behavior," said Sutton.

Sutton also says, if the men were asked to leave and they refused, they could be charged with trespassing too. The expert says this situation should be taken very seriously and it could have easily ended up violent. Sutton says, in light of recent terror attacks, every person in the church had a very good reason to be concerned.

"This is really unusual behavior. This isn't something that happens all the time. So the fact that it even happened, would be enough to cause alarm and legitimately so," he said.

The Mary statue?  :my_dodgy:   I have seen folks down there preaching on the sidewalks with megaphones.

That is very unsettling. If that happened at my church, I would be looking around for a place to get my kids out if it became violent.

I'll never understand why so many other Christians hate Catholicism so much.

Maybe because their history goes back further than Protestant offshoots, and they have a direct trace to the early history of the church?

Sadly many of them aren't even that educated to know that.

I actually had one person say to me (Catholic): "Well at least we don't add books to the Bible." My response, "You are right, the Protestants took books out of the Bible." <face palm>

Absolutely seriously, how did all these various branches of Christianity end up being enemies? Jesus told us to love one another......

Do they have nothing better to do than to go harass Catholics? Why can't these knuckleheads channel their new faith into something constructive and useful, like cleaning up a park or volunteering at a soup kitchen?

I would think that in Vegas they would be able to find people participating in much more grievous activities than a Catholic Church service.  I think the difference is that they know they would be stopped with a quickness at any casinos or bars on the strip.

I don't want anyone picking on anyone and I abhor bigotry of all sorts, but I wish someone would get more creative with what random-ass group to hate. Like, I want to see a group of people yelling about how God hates people who don't use headphones on public transportation. Or people who mess up store displays and leave hanging clothes just strewn on the ground near the clothing racks are Satanic.

Well, of course, some Christians don't like the Roman Catholic church for all the wrong reasons.

However, I'm a former Catholic who left the church due to their incredibly harmful teachings regarding birth control (especially condoms), homosexuality, sexuality in general, womens role in the church, the fact that the church officials tolerated that some of their clergy members commited sexual abuse and didn't do anything about it until they were publicly forced to act and so on.

At least in my new church, those are the reasons many people, me included, don't like the Roman Catholic church. While of course many Catholics are much more liberal regarding those issues than their church, the official teachings of the Roman Catholic church still cause huge damage all around the world.

Disrupting church services was a ploy the Quaker’s used on the Church of England and the Puritans. Ended with Quakers hanging from the gallows.

Some fundies have Roman Catholic Derangement Syndrome. Candy Brauer back a few years ago was a prime example. She has since dialed it back a notch. I have heard of RCs coming out of mass to find chick tracts on their windshields, but never actual disruption of services – truly disturbing.

Catholics have their own “fundies” and no shortage of cyber-apologists with Luther Derangement Syndrome. Maybe they'll disrupt a fundie service shouting The pope is Infallible!

You can't go around accusing Christians of not being Christian when you are not being Christian doing it. I love how people think they are privy to the only true version of Christianity when every Christian thinks the same thing. If God only made a manual that people could follow.

The station is real.  However, I was under the impression that Bishop Gorman HS hasn't been open and running for at least a year or two.

I'm a lapsed Catholic myself who understands why Catholics leave and that there are definitely issues with the Church.  But usually we're being accused of worshipping Satan, not that Mary is Satan....

Corruption resulted in other branches stemming off, and the Catholic church wasn't above things getting bloody to stop it.  The current pope is impressive and amazing, but the history of the Catholic church is disturbing.  Combine that with the wealth they have now, and it gets really easy to see why other Christians don't like them.  In some areas, the only available hospitals are Catholic, which means medical and emergency care limited to what the church approves of.

I'm Catholic, and no, I still don't see a reason to be hated for my religion.

No, people who leave clothes on the ground are evil, but worse are the people who leave one shoulder of something on a hanger and stick it back so that it hands at a weird angle and tangles up other stuff.  /former Ross employee

Bishop Gorman HS is open. I know where it is. Their football team is a valley powerhouse.

I'm also an X-Catholic. I left for many reasons...not the least of which was being told to go back to my abusive husband and submit more and control the children more and then maybe he wouldn't beat us anymore.

The boy I crushed on all throughout high school became one.  He married a girl who no one thought would have looked the way of a star athlete of three sports, and they are both fundy to the level we see here, though no packing kids in sardine can RVs or stacking them like wood.  They're 33 and 34 with 10 kids and another on the way, all skirts, all about homeschooling because of the ho-mo-sexuals in public schools.  His sister is bisexual, and was disowned.  If you didn't know they're Catholic, you might mistake them for David and Jill and co, only the master of the house takes tremendous pride in being able to properly support all the kids by busting his ass off working.  Which makes them semi-fundy, I guess.  And they did go into debt buying their house.
