I don't know too much about the Smiths. Does anyone know how medically inclined they are? Would they be okay with Bates-level fertility intervention? Or does Amanda just have to rub some essential oils on her stomach and hope for the best?

And what's the general consensus for Fundies and Viagra?

I’m not sure. I don’t think they’ve ever blogged about fertility treatments. But Russ and Amanda don’t seem to be rolling in money. So I bet IVF is off the table at least. They just bought a plot of land and a manufactured home recently.

I personally would see it as a good thing if more fundies married at much older ages. It would mean they don’t have enormous families. Amanda’s younger brother, who has been married for a few years, made a quick stop by FJ and said they didn’t want kids. So at least one of the 11Smiths is not quiverful.

Gotta be a patriarch's gift from heaven.  What the submissive helpmeet thinks is another story and likely not taken into consideration.

Did you know that women aren’t the only ones who have a decrease in fertility due to age? Unfortunately people like to always blame an older woman for decreased fertility in a couple. But men do have a decrease as they age. And by the time men are in their 60s, they aren’t as fertile as they were in their 20s. It isn’t impossible for this couple to have a child. But if you want to look at fertility statistics on people their age (I believe Amanda is over 35), they have a lower chance of conceiving compared to a couple of 20 year old fundies.

I'm pretty sure they are both experiencing decreased fertility, based on their ages and the fact that they haven't had a child. Honestly this makes me sad for them, since they have expressed an openness to having children. The Russell I knew would make a good parent and I have seen nothing to indicate he has changed in any material way.

They're definitely not rolling in money. They're musicians and music teachers.

Since they have been private about any sort of medical treatment, I'd rather not speculate further.

Editing to add that I've now read the discussion on the other thread and understand why this got bumped. I did see Russell's awful comment on the RHE post. That was upsetting to see. I don't think that means he'd be any worse a parent than any other fundy, however. You know there are a whole lot of fundies who are thinking basically the same thing; it's just that most (or at least some) of them know better than to say it out loud. It's standard exclusive fundy theology.

Amanda and Russell have posted photos of their new house on the purchased plot.

I know that in her bio in 11smiths, she " loves anything  John  Deere" Looks like she's got a tractor duvet  cover in her guest room!

They aren’t preventing. Amanda has said they would happily welcome a blessing from god.

There is at least one photo of them on the blog with two little kids, whom I assumed were their sprog... No?

No, they have nieces and nephews they love to visit with. But they don’t have any of their own.

#2 boy would have loved that years ago in his pre teenage years. Seriously.

Hope they're safe in that manufactured home on that plot. They felled trees to make space for it, but it looks surrounded by woodland and parts are not well drained. The weather in some states in the past week looks pretty grim.
