Josh and Anna Renew Vows

Old Arrow

Recommended Posts

What would Anna have to renew, she never broke the vows she took in the 1st place.

IF this were to happen this would be all Josh, when you make a perfect shot in Golf there is no need for a Mulligan (do-over) since you got it right the 1st time.

She took her vows and kept her vows, no need to re-do.

So if they were doing this would it include a gathering along with a gift grab? Sounds oh so Duggar..

I hope someone brings condoms and holds a demonstration.

Anna's vows: "I promise to obey and honor you and keep sweet about your infidelities. I vow that I will always consider any further infidelities to be my own fault for failing to fulfil you in some way.  I promise never to nag and always put your sexual desires first, even after we have squintillion children."

Josh's vows: "I promise to try not to get caught the next time I'm with a prostitute."

*snip*

My grandparents renewed their vows in celebration of their 50th anniversary. They were completely and utterly in love with each other and the family they had created together. 4 years later, my grandfather was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer and died in 4 months. They were the first people I knew to renew their vows. :(

I wanted to like your comment, but this story made me want to cry/hug instead :( I'm glad they had the many happy years they did.

P.S. You have impressive quoting skills!

And to provide a happy anecdote to the divorce/death anecdata, my parents renewed their vows for their 40th anniversary back in 1998.  They are still happily married and well.

I love it when people who have been married for a long time have some type of ceremony to renew/restate their vows. It gives the rest of us a good look at what a great marriage looks like. I also like it when it was a couple, that may have gotten married younger, or in times when they were not able to afford the wedding that they may have wanted reach a point when they are able to have a celebration that is exactly what they want 2nd (or in many cases 1st) honeymoon included.

This is not

This would (for me) be a public humiliation where I get to stand up and look in those same cheating eyes and hear him LIE to me Again all the while remembering the innocent girl with so much hope that stood here just a mere few years ago and other than my lovely children all I have in return is heartache,

Josh should also be forced to revisit the 'Loyalty Song'. Sing it again Josh, this time with feeling!

And Anna's response to the 'Loyalty Song' is Kelly Clarkson's 'Never Again'

Or he'll take a page from good ol' Kirky Cameron and do that Love Dare thing, which will automatically fix it!

Bahahaha. That whole movie I kept screaming at them to just divorce. This actually seems likely, since this is one movie the Duggars were actually allowed to see.

I do think that there will be a vow renewal at some point, I just don't think it's happening now. Josh will have to have his "born again" tour first. Still, if it does end up happening, I will be extremely disappointed. Life is too short to be in an unhappy marriage, Anna!

I'm not sure.  I hope he was, I really would love to know what went through his head to cheat on his wife. & thinks it was ok.

I'm sure he intended to, and as someone else mentioned here, marriage can be seen as a solution to fundie problems. You can suddenly have sex, responsibility and companionship, all of which are denied to fundie young people until marriage. However, it's not as easy as it's made out to be, and people end up being disillusioned. Often they have problems which are kept secret because they're not allowed to be open, such as sex addiction, a porn problem, etc., and with the environment giving little chance to develop true personal morality (rather simply following lock step with a family because you're forced to) when a fundie kid is allowed to make choices, a lot of them go off the deep end. It's as though they've been in a pressure cooker for decades and then explode—sometimes publicly, sometimes secretly, as with Josh.

Not defending Josh's actions in any way—they were reprehensible and by all accounts he's a messed up and shitty person, as indicated by his behavior going back a long way—but I strongly believe that growing up in a pressure-cooker environment like this severely handicaps a person's judgement and often leads to people with a very poor personal sense of morality.

Didn't JB and Michelle have a vow renewal in the basement of Cross Church? (The reason for that terrible crossover with Say Yes to the Dress. And was that the origin of the "modest" dress comment from JB?)  So the family also has a history of vow renewals, though theoretically for a less fraught reason. Joyous, celebratory vow renewals are one thing. Vow renewals to self-convince the involved parties that they are still happy together are something else entirely.

I don't know why any of you believe that article is real. It's all totally made up. Anna would never consider such a thing after all she's been thru. It's BS.

Due to all the brainwashing, I have to disagree with you.  Not only could I see them doing it, but making a huge media event out of it. With a huge People cover with "Redemption" written across the front.

I agree. We are already seeing TLC and the Duggars capitalizing on Anna's pain to promote the new specials.

I don't think it's a huge leap from that to a new special: "A Very Duggar Vow Renewal". If Anna should choose to remain in the family, I don't believe she would have a voice in whether or not she would want to participate.

Jim Bob has stated God wants the family on TV, and JB seems happy to break a few eggs while making his TLC omelette.

My opinion: I just think so little of this family that an insincere vow renewal one day is not beyond the realm of possibilty.

I'm getting tired and I read this as "Josh and Anna renounce vows". I thought it was some sort of way of splitting up in all ways except legally getting a divorce.

I hope that if there is any truth to the consideration of renewing the vows that Josh at least has to have had a few years to prove his 'new and Godly' ways are the real deal first. And please no '1 year to the day after the scandal' sort of anniversary renewal. I could totally see TLC pushing for that.

Thanks for sharing. I kind of went in thinking I'd stop watching after the Duggars were discussed, but watched the whole thing! Terrible stuff. I have heard for years about the pearls but never saw any footage. After I saw this I went on YouTube to try to find the clips to share with friends who like the Duggars. Here's one I found that had many of the scenes shown in the interview:

I had that happen before when I had a quote in queue and ended up in another thread.

it's true. I mean they now have shows about marrying in unreasonable time frames and marrying people your parents picked for you..

They may as well switch their programming from "happy families" to "epic divorces," since that's how most of their shows go/will go anyways.

Yeah, and this is the same network that gave us Honey Boo-Boo.

I can see people doing something like that to celebrate their years together, and symbolically say 'I'd marry this person again'. But in that case it is more of a vow confirmation than a vow renewal. (Not that I'd ever consider doing such a ceremony. One of the reasons I will not divorce my husband is because I never want to have to organise another wedding.)

When people use vow renewal to promise again what they did not keep before, it is just lessening the value of the vows. Wedding vows are not there to renew at your convenience. They are meant for life. If you broke them but want to stay married, you'd better work hard as hell to earn yourself another shot at keeping them.

I was glad to see they added Anna to the specials b/c all this time we've only been able to speculate on how she's doing, now we'll find out. I would love for them to give her a show, all real, no Jim Bob & no BS. Let's see how she's really doing, how she's coping, what has she told the kids. I know they wouldn't include it, but what he told her; never mind, that's not our business.

i don't know /care to know how Anna is thinking but just imagine the stomach aches she has

I often wonder about how many tears Josh has caused her to shed.  And no one,  NO. ONE. in that Duggar family knows the depths of grief  and anger she's felt.  That's why she really needs professional counseling.

I can only imagine her wanting to throw up every time she sees Jim Bob or hears his voice.   Why?   The smugness runs deep in that family.

ETA:  Getting personal here.  I feel so bad for her,  if Anna stays with that pig,  for the resuming of their sexual activities.  My ex cheated on me from the beginning of our nearly three-decade long marriage and cheating is what ended it.   For me, sex was never the same again,  knowing he'd been with other women.   Now that I am single again,  I don't miss sex and wonder if I'll ever desire it again.  My psyche took a huge hit in the area of sexual intimacy.  I would tend to think this might be true for Anna, as well.  In the back of her mind, she'll likely feel like she falls short of being sexy and adequate to fulfill Josh's fantasies after he's been with a porn actress. For her, sex will have lost its value as a way of expressing love and she will feel like she is simply a legitimate,  morally appropriate outlet for Josh's urges.

I'm not saying this IS how it will be, but I'm speculating,  based on a similar experience.

It may have been like this from the beginning though. Those are the overtones in all of the Dugger sex talk. A woman does it out of love (because her husband needs it so it is a loving thing to give it) but not really as an expression of the love she feels herself.

Having said that, I am so sorry you had to go through that. A close family member is going through this process now and the pain is unimaginable, not just for her, but for her children and parents and all who love her and loved them as a couple. Everything that was safe and natural becomes akward and painful. No faithful spouse deserves to go through that. Hope you have all the support you need.

well, we won't really see anything the Duggars don't want us to know about.

I think a vow renewal would be the ultimate humiliation for Anna, especially if there's another scandal.  What would she have to gain?
