Geoff Botkin educates us on refugees

A youtube sermon with slides called "Loving Refugees" that explains to us why they are all Islamic terrorists. "Love" Geoff, it does not mean what you think it means...

He is so much better than than your average jihadist preacher who just takes some passages  from a very old book and tells us his interpretation is the only way to paradise! Oh, wait...:AOK:

You mean this scared child isn't a terrorist?!  People against refugees can go fry in hell.  Our home is open to any refugees the government wants to send our way. These people aren't terrorists.  That's why they're fleeing terrorism.  Botkin needs to rethink Christian love when atheists show more love to those in need.

This is a piss poor argument. Why is it that a handful of Muslim extremists represents ALL Muslims everywhere, but a handful of Christian extremist gun nuts doesn't represent all Christians/gun owners?

Because it's a stupid argument, that's why. A handful does not equal the whole.

I may be misremembering, but didn't Isaac and Heidi post something twisted yet slightly sympathetic to refugees? Something like "politicians are pushing against refugees because the government is corrupt and socialist and ungodly and wants to control its citizens?"

Geoff sucks as usual. Free Jinger, more like free jingoism!

Amazing how the fundies can hold this belief while still defending to the death the "right" of all Americans to celebrate Christmas--you know, that holiday that celebrates the story of a Middle Eastern family giving birth in a manger because they didn't have anyplace else to stay. "No room at the inn" indeed.

Reminds me of how they express "love" of the LGBT community(by telling them they're going to Hell unless they repent).:annoyed:

I found it a bit odd towards the end when Geoff said there's two types of Muslims: "Prisoner Muslims" who are in bondage to their religion which is causing them harm, and "Free Muslims" who have got out of Islam and are the ones Christians should help rescue from being killed by the others.  (He also said Christians should help "Prisoner Muslims" by encouraging them to leave Islam.)  The illogical thing about this is that what he calls "Free Muslims" aren't Muslims at all, but actually former Muslims.  So to say they're the Muslims that Christians should help makes it look like he's saying there's some Muslims Christians should help, except he's really saying Christians should only help former Muslims who are not Muslims now.  (Well, apart from helping current Muslims stop being Muslims, which he sees as the only Christian way to help current Muslims.)

On the other hand, at one point he seemed to be approving of some people who had rescued both Christians and non-terrorist Muslims from terrorists Muslims.  But maybe that was okay with Geoff because they weren't being let into America? *shrugs*

I've listened to the occasional Geoff Botkin sermon on Sermon Audio (http://www.sermonaudio.com/search.asp?speakeronly=true&currsection=sermonsspeaker&keyword=Geoffrey_Botkin), and have noticed a verbal tic that's always present in his delivery - a sound I can best describe as a "scoff," a sort of half-laugh, half sound of disgust. (If you've heard it and know what I'm talking about, and have a better descriptor, I'm all ears!)

IMNSHO, it only reinforces his image as a religious/faux-intellectual snob.

Oh yeah, his "I'm amused at the antics of those fools who don't know what I know, look at them being wrong and childish and ungodly!" condescending chuckle sound.  Like whoever he's talking about is a naughty child.

[edit]

I was gonna say I didn't know 'Western Conservatory' had a Youtube account, but I checked the account and found they only joined up a week ago, i.e. for this video specifically.

I wonder whether we'll see more there in the future.  Oh, and I'm not surprised to see that comments are disabled for the video.

I know exactly what you're talking about, I think you described it perfectly. He also regularly repeats phrases for emphasis; it used to irritate me.

This... because it's America.  If you're white and Christian you're OK no matter what you do. But brown skin or black..... One person represents everyone apparently.

I've always thought that was cultivated as a way of getting his audience to believe that they are all in on the joke.

He did seem approving of the Korean and Vietnamese immigrants though.

And he said something about how deciding who should be allowed in is not about skin tone.  And then he repeated himself for emphasis.  For emphasis!  Heheh.

Ah, the "model minorities"! The ones that always get held up as an example for how non-white immigrants can integrate and make a go of it. Only that ignores so , so much of history, social history and circumstances of immigration. Not that people like Botkin will ever look into all of that. They're far too fond of using the model minorities to point out how they aren't against all non-white immigrants.

He titled it "An Open Letter Syrian Refugees." but then he only addressed the Muslim refugees.  Why not say hi to the Christian refugees too?  (Or is he assuming that Obama didn't let any in? :P)

For most of our 400 years, Americans of many ethnicities have been too busy working with other ethnic Americans to be racists.  No matter what the media suggests to you, or what CAIR suggests to you, no one I know is going to hate you or slight you because your skin color is lighter or darker than theirs.  Most of the racism in this country is fictional sensationalism manufactured by the American media.

Oh really???  So, so long as you stick around with people Geoff Botkin knows...

If you believe what you see in our juvenile Hollywood films you would think that a fourth of all Americans own firearms.  This is a ridiculous misrepresentation.  In our county it’s more like 80%.

He's having a chuckle right now, isn't he?

A little more:

Quote

American women of every international background happen to be exceptionally beautiful.

Happen to be?  Odd turn of phrase. And what does he mean 'exceptionally'? How can women of every international background be an exception?  Does he mean that becoming American makes them exceptionally beautiful?  Yay for American exceptionalism :P  Does he mean they're more beautiful than Syrian refugees have ever seen?  It he saying "our women are more beautiful than yours"?  Or does he mean "Your women are beautiful too... except no one would ever know cos you hide them away"?

Ugh, that whole sentence strikes me as profoundly odd.

And does he mean all of them, or just some?  Because Doug Wilson would quibble that any non-Christian woman can be beautiful, let alone exceptionally so. :P

Also he forgot to warn the Syrian women that "American men of every international background happen to be exceptionally handsome!"  Because that would be only fair, right?

My ancestors were immigrant latecomers to America.  Before that we were Swedish pagans and later Protestant Christians.  As Viking raiders we were the most destructive people of history (until the coming of Muhammad and Islam.)

"...So at least my ancestors weren't quite as bad as yours!"

Just a few things from Geoff's "Open Letter" that make me go "hmmmmm...I wonder what planet he's on??"

Quote

Here in America we’ve been attempting to build a culture that respects life, liberty, and property.  We’re not ashamed of the fact that we get our rules out of the Bible. [bolding mine]

You’ve come to the most awe-inspiring nation in world history.

And Christian church buildings scattered over the landscape.

Jews are not a despised minority in this country.  Historically, Americans have welcomed and honored Jewish families.

(At least he doesn't play the "My parents were Godless Marxists" card here!)

I just thought to read the About the Author section:

Geoffrey Botkin is a cultural analyst, political consultant, veteran filmmaker, husband, and father. He currently serves as a senior consultant to the Western Conservatory of the Arts & Sciences.

I.e. he talks to himself.

(Also, duck biologist.)

Speaking of the unfolding of nonsense, I just stumbled across this: http://www.christianbook.com/how-to-disciple-your-family-10/pd/101702

Wonder what Geoff thinks of that collab now, eh?

It was all just a dream. Like on the old TV show "Dallas."

Just...just WTF?  Seriously, slavery, segregation, the KKK, the Chinese Exclusion Act, The Racial Integrity Act of 1924, the Philadelphia Nativist Riots, the Mexican Repatriation Act, the treatment of Native Americans in every way shape and form, Japanese internment, etc. etc. etc. is all fictional sensationalism?!  America has long been obsessed with race, almost from day one.  I'm just astounded that he could even think about making the claim that there wasn't serious racism historically in the United States, hell, from before we even had the mass media that he claims manufactures it.  Stick to what your pea brain can understand, Geoff: duck biology and oppressing women.
