Life in a Shoe Amazon store???

Poking around LIAS FB page and she says that their full time job is having a store on Amazon with no link because others would undercut them....I am not much of an Amazon shopper but how does this work? How on earth would you make enough money to feed all of those people? She says Perry isnt flying back and forth anymore like he was before. Can anyone fill me in cause I am confused.

This makes no sense:

" ... we have to keep our storefront a secret and let amazon customers find our goods in the course of normal shopping."

I can't imagine too many legitimate reasons you wouldn't want to share a link to your store with readers of your blog. Wouldn't that drum up more business?

What do they even sell?

Probably all the leftover Vision Forum merch. They can't tell anyone where to find their store because they don't want DPIAT to find out what they carried out of the warehouse for re-branding on Amazon :pb_lol:

I wonder if it's similar to what my sister-in-law used to do. She would buy merchandise in bulk when it was being discontinued (I remember her dining room being piled with unopened boxes of Legos) or she would find a really good deal. She would then turn around and sell it on eBay for quite a profit. She had just started doing this on Amazon as well when she decided law school would be a better use of her time. She made decent money for working only five to ten hours a week and limiting herself to selling toys.

I first misread the topic as "Life in an Amazon Shoe Store."

I doubt they'd be making enough money to support a family. I know someone with an Amazon storefront, but it's part-time, additional income for them. You'd have to sell a lot to support even one person.

Yeah, I'm shocked that Perry quit his job over this. I've also been studying the Thanksgiving photo Perry posted. Who is the bearded guy on the left and the woman behind him? He looks too husky to be Deanna's boyfriend, Seth. And there are lots of other guys in the pic.

Think this is what's called retail arbitage, and, yes, lots of money can be made doing this.

I have a friend who does something similar, with legos. He buys sets or gets them "free" with purchase and then turns around and sells them on ebay. He's made thousands of dollars and it's just something he does on the side because he enjoys it. If you know what you're doing, you can make some serious $$$.

This comment on their page is gold:

I don't, every time I do my card gets frauded. Plus I am losing my job because places like Amazon are taking business away from mom & pop shops. Plus they are the largest purveyors of porn online and I don't wish to support that.

I also would love to know more about how this is working. I can't tell if the statement that Perry is no longer working out of state means that he no longer works outside the home, or if it means he's found some sort of local employment.

Also, where are they storing all this crap since their house is stuffed with children?  On the Costco shelving bunks with the kids? Or are they paying for a storage unit?

Lotsa Amazon sales are sold by XXX, fulfilled by Amazon--which I've always imagined meant that the seller turned over their stock to Amazon, who ships it to the final customer.

Not enough time right now but perhaps someone can delve a bit deeper into the VF book list on Amazon and see if there's a certain 3rd-party seller in TX who seems to have lots of remaindered VF stock to sell...

I poked at the first page of results, but nothing jumped out at me before I lost interest. :kitty-shifty:

Why Amazon and not EBay?

eBay is a sinking ship. Up until recently I've been making a decent part-time income buying discount merchandise and selling on eBay. But they have made horrible changes to their business model in the last couple years and it is a total mess. PayPal was basically keeping eBay afloat financially but they split off into two separate companies in July.  My sales have been circling the toilet this year. Many small scale eBay sellers have jumped ship and gone over to "the river." I'm considering it too.

My husband has an Amazon store, and he ships from his business.  Amazon is only guaranteeing that the item will be shipped.  No way would the CetlicDude hand over his stock to anyone.

There is a seller called Kingdom Services selling out of Tx.  They're selling The Tea with Michelle Duggar video.  They have very few products, but one of them is an audio cd by Doug Phillips.

Maybe.

There's a separate service that you can pay for, where Amazon does store and ship the items - Fulfilled by Amazon.

I also have an Amazon "store" (mostly just to sell books that I don't need anymore, not really to make money) and just ship it myself.  Mostly because the FBA deal costs money and I like having the flexibility to pull something if the price goes too low and just list on Paperback Swap.

My name is Nelliebelle and I am a subscription box addict. I used to make decent money selling my leftover box stuff and my kids' clothes (they have nice ones) on eBay but lately the selling price has not been worth it. I have tons of "vintage" Anthropologie stuff I am about to sell. Not too confident in what I can get for it  now :(

I'm not so familiar with ebay, but this was my guess as well. I've also seen tons of commercials lately for new services (especially smartphone apps) where people can re-sell stuff in supposedly less cumbersome and time-consuming ways.
