KI hate to say it, but until the current generation

I seriously doubt that will happen any time soon. I wonder what % of 60 + men, especially Caucasian, are obsessed with women's bodies. It just seems that way, anyhow.Though there will always be extreme religious types, studies show more millennials are more liberal and less religious, which could impact women's issues. And it also means these pro-natalist types could more likely easily have kids who decide not to have kids.

I truly don't understand why anyone other than my nearest and dearest would be interested in what goes on in my uterus.

You have no idea about why this woman sterilised herself. But it was her choice. For reasons, perhaps beyond, I don't want kids that no one needs to know about. You are not helpful, you are a rude background character in the life of someone you only know from the internet.
This is my body, my uterus, my ovaries, cysts and all. If you expect me to appease you and live up to misogynistic standards by reliving the traumatic experiences I went though as a teenager to be diagnosed with PCOS you have another thing coming.
I am a confident young woman who has the privileged to choose what I do with my body and no troll or online comment can change that.

This world would be a much better place if everyone would just butt out of complete strangers private lives.  What goes on in someone's bedroom or uterus or whatever is no ones business but that person and anyone in their life they choose to share it with.  Period.  The whole "We need small government!!11... (except when it comes to people's love lives and what they do with their own bodies)" thing drives me spare

A good friend of mine knew since he was a teenager that he didn't want children.  He wanted a vasectomy and had a bit of trouble finding a doctor who would do it.  IIRC my friend had to ask 2-3 doctors but did eventually find a doctor who agreed to do the surgery.  My friend was around 19 at the time and this would have been in 1965 or so.  Unusual?  Yes, but people have the right to be unusual.  The doctor did his duty of "Are you REALLY REALLY sure, son?" and then respected the patient's wishes.  It's really no one else's business at that point.

I read the article, and I think this is a case of overexaggeration on the part of Brockwell, in order to get media attention. The "guard" was a building security guard that she probably requested to escort her from the car. Yes, she got backlash, but I don't read about any true threats. I think she's stirring the pot.

Reminds me of a time on an airplane, when I was stuck on the tarmac for four hours next to some conservative talk show personality (can't remember his name right now.. Tony(?) something - dark hair, beard, wicked sense of humor). Anyway, he was scheduled to do a phone interview for some Texas show, and he elected to do it while sitting on the plane, since nothing was happening anyway. He told the audience he was stuck on a plane, and described the scene as those around him being ready to lynch him for his bold statements of true conservative values. "You should see how people are looking at me. They hate me.", etc. In reality, we were all glassy-eyed and half-comatose, wondering where he was getting the reality he was projecting. It was a vivid example to me of how the media will stir things up to make themselves look like heroes.

I think Brockwell is doing the same thing.

I'm not saying there was no backlash. And I definitely think motherhood should be her own decision. But I also think any journalist should not be overly upset when people call her "selfish", "ignorant", "stupid", and "in need of psychiatric help." If she's that thin-skinned, she shouldn't be in the business.

ETA: It was Tony Katz. Found him on a search.

Why she wanted to get sterilized is nobody's business. Her body, her choice, end of discussion.

Probably some of the attackers are people who make a hobby out of being assholes to people.  There are people for whom "troll" and "being an asshole" is a super fun hobby, and would attack someone who wants kids too.

i never said she got psychical threats, but she was harassed about it in a not so good way. THe pressure to have kids is far reaching in secular society. There was teacher in the 1970s who announced on local channel she planned to remain childless and she got death threats and was met with picketers at the school. I'm still trying to find the name. It was bad enough that happened in the 1970s let alone getting harassed about something so personal in 2015.
i never heard of a man ahving s hard time gettign a vasectomy, but I guess it was different in the 1960s. .

I meant 'It never said" for some reason the edit feature isnt working

How on earth is somebody deciding not to have children in any way bad for society? If you don't want children or don't think you'd be good at parenting for whatever reason, for god's sakes, don't have children! These are the last people anyone should be worrying about.

I get so tired with how "baby obsessed" people (in genral) are. My husband and I announced some surprise news recently and everyone's mind immediately went to "pregnant" and then were disappointed when it wasn't that. Really kind of ruined the news we were both excited about that we had hoped friends and family could be excited about with us. I've known I wanted to be childfree since I was a teenager and I just can't wrap my head around the obsession that some people have with it.

What sort of person thinks "This person says that they don't want to have children? Clearly this calls for me to send an anonymous death threat!"

I just don't understand it. Why would you want someone dead for something that has absolute jack shit fuck all zilch nada zip to do with you? Why do you care so much? Why haven't you considered taking up paper spinning or coin collecting instead of sending death threats to people with whom you disagree?

Some told her that the NHS shouldn't pay for her to be sterilised as the money "would be better spent on sick children", others branded her a "media whore" and: "One man said he wouldn't want to have sex with me (except he was far less polite about it)."

I'm sure she was crushed by his rejection... he sounds like just the jerk that every woman wants as her abusive partner : P

If you're worried about NHS funds it would seem to make sense to encourage more sterilisations... there is no chance that this woman's children will have some expensive healthcare, and she won't need pre- and postnatal care...etc.

Why do people care so much about what other people (especially women) do with their bodies? It´s none for their business.

She is not hurting anyone else or being a threat to herself. So: Mind your own business.

My sweet pup was diagnosed with a brain tumor in September. She passed away in my arms on Thanksgiving morning. It all happened so fast. She didn't want to eat anything the day before, but prior to that was ok. Knew it was near time and had booked an appointment to take her next week. However, she decided for me. She was only 8 and really was one of the best dogs. She never met a stranger, human or dog. Life isn't the same without her.

I made my first Granny Square! After nearly 30 years of knitting and crocheting this was a project I never did. Until now! I needed something to do with my rest of very colourful yarn and now I am very happy. I need to try different needles with my yarns but I think I found something nice for the future.
I needed only 3 different youtube videos until I found a person who explained the concept slowly and repetitive and with words I can understand. I hate when these tutorials make me feel dumb.

We had to put our 14 year old dachshund, Trinket, down today.  She was fine Thursday, but by mid-morning yesterday, it was apparent that something was really wrong,  She had zero energy, lost her appetite and began walking into corners.  By morning I knew it was time for her to have her final visit to the vet.  She had lost about a pound and a half recently.  RIP, Trinket!

Horrific! A 6 year old boy was murdered, and mother severly injured, in a hate crime in Chicago. Reports say they are both Palestinian Muslims and were specifically targeted because of that. Thankfully the man who did it is in custody
      This is pure evil
