Which Duggar Will Escape First?

I've said it before on this thread, but I damn well hope Jordyn escapes. For some reason, on YouTube, I'm watching the episode where she's born. I'm VERY bored, OK? :P Pretty much the last time she got any kind of attention.

(OK, not the whole thing, it's a Part 6 of 6 video, and I jumped straight to part six)

I refuse to go to the movies on holidays. I think that theatres should be closed on holidays. There is NO reason why you should be subjecting people to work at a theatre just so you can watch movies on a holiday. Sit in your living room and watch something you already have or can stream.

Not everyone is Christian or celebrates Christmas on Christmas day. Some people are alone at Christmas but don't want to sit at home all alone and be reminded of that, so they go out to the movies.  I don't see a problem with the movie theatres being open on Christmas day at all.  My brother and sister worked at the local theatre and they would request Christmas night because it meant double time and a half  and we had Christmas dinner around 2 pm.  My Jewish friends would work Christmas or Easter with no problems. They were happy for the extra pay and it meant we were able to celebrate with family.

Thanksgiving is different. I don't understand why any stores are open on Thanksgiving. I remember a friend telling me when she worked at a grocery store in New York while she was at University, people would come in to the store to do a boat load of shopping, then tell her while she was on the cash that it was a shame she had to work on Thanksgiving and how it must be terrible not being with her family. She had to bite her lip to keep from telling them THEY were the reason she had to work. If they could just do their shopping any time BUT that 24 hours or so, she would be home with her family.

I spent Thanksgiving alone. Completely and utterly alone. That does not mean I, even for a second, thought it would be appropriate to go to a business and expect OTHER people to be away from THEIR families on those days.

I have no problem with people who don't celebrate holidays. But, the people forced the work those days are not necessarily the people who aren't wishing they could be celebrating. Plus, it's a bank holiday and I feel like all businesses that aren't dealing with emergencies (fire, police, EMTs, etc) should give them employees bank holidays off.

And, very few people ONLY get Christmas and Thanksgiving off. You could very easily save your family trip to the movie theatre for a day that ISNT a major holiday.

Again, as someone who works at a movie theater, if you're applying for a position there, whoever interviews you will mention in the interview and/or application that holidays and weekends are required (busiest periods). Depending on how many employees they have, you can request holidays off but that doesn't mean you'll always get them.

Businesses have to make money and ironically, some make money because of the days other people have off. It's a tradeoff for working in the hospitality industry.

Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if Gothard himself didn't take it upon himself to marry her. Not that I would ever want him to have access to those children, but it could happen. I mean, she's followed his code to the letter of the law, she has fame, and ............... She's got enough young kids who would have friends that he could prey on.........

:brainbleach:Oh god, you're right.  Oh man, it's going to take a heck of a lot of Clorox to get that thought/picture out of my mind.   Pervy Uncle Bill and Michelle.  Ewwwwww.  Not a fan of hers, but I don't wish Bill on anybody.

"Marry again?" OMG, no! She would have to spends the whole second half of her life on her back, again. Surely, she would realize what a relief it would be not to have to do THAT, ever again. And who would have her? Esp. since most or all of those kids would still be living w/her. I think she would just appoint one of the boys to be the headship & she's sorta check out again.

oh.my.god....by Gothardites standards it would be Josh.  Well, there's a fun "imagine if"exercise.  What a cluster fuck that would be.

I agree that Thanksgiving everything should be closed. There is no argument from me.

Perhaps Christmas is different depending on where you live. Where I am, there is a fairly decently sized non-Christian population. There are very few places open (a few restaurants and the movie theatres) I don't expect shops to be open. No one does. But I see no problem with the theatres. From personal experience, the people who work Christmas have chosen to work Christmas. Whether it is because they don't celebrate the holiday, or they don't have anyone to celebrate with or perhaps the double time and a half is too good to pass up - they made that choice. They tend to run on a skeleton crew.  There are many people who don't want to be alone at Christmas and the theatres are open, they are warm and they are an escape.

I used to work retail on Black Friday a long tine ago. Never, ever again. I shopped once on Black Friday. Never, ever again. I'm likely to have one hell of an anxiety and vertigo attack.

Here in Germany stores close on the 24th around noon. Gifts are given on the evening of the 24th. 25th and 26th are holidays. I have no idea if cinemas are open, but I know the zoo is. Many families go there. But main thing here is the evening of the 24th.
My mother always works at the 24th. She is happy to have some stress free time and lets my Dad prepare the turkey and goose for the 25th. And the 24th we only have a quick and easy dinner to have time for gifts and being together. (Tradition here is sausages with potato salad.)

Thanksgiving is not celebrated here. (At least not like in the US, we have something called "Erntedank", no idea if that is the same.) Black Friday became more popular in the last years. Mostly online though.

Shops are closed here on Christmas Day, Easter Sunday and the morning of Anzac Day.  The big sales start on Boxing Day (26 December ) in the City, but suburban shops have always been closed on Boxing Day.  This year our local Westfield will open on Boxing Day for the first time. I think this is totally unnecessary, and just retailers greed.   The shop DD works for has asked for volunteers to work that day, at double time and a half.  Of course, at that pay, she and most of the other staff - largely uni students with casual jobs - have volunteered to work.  I'm pleased no one will be forced to work in this shop, but I still think it is a shame that families will be tempted to go shopping instead of relaxing together.

In college, I worked at a restaurant in a theme park. Being on the bottom of the seniority totem pole I worked Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas. I think the part that sucks the most about working holidays in a service industry is that customers will frequently accuse you of personally ruining their Thanksgiving/Christmas. This table is not as nice as that table over there. You ruined my Thanksgiving. I asked for fries, not mashed potatoes. You ruined my Thanksgiving. That baby two tables away threw up and I saw it. You ruined my Christmas! (That last one actually happened to me. A large gentleman was so angry that he threw a chair. He was escorted off the premises.) These experiences definitely make me appreciate the cushy job I have now even more.

Back to the question of which Duggar will escape first, my vote is for Justin. He's always flown under the radar, and when a producer asked him in one of the wedding episodes what kind of trick he would play on Jackson at his wedding he replied, ever so casually, "I don't know....steal his girl." Bazinga!

I've always said I thought Josh would escape first.  Now with the latest incidents, i am convinced of it.  he clearly doesn't believe in the lifestyle. he's had a taste of freedom.  Now with his share of the TLC money likely gone, it is only a matter of time....

I am not a Christian, and frequently spend Christmas alone or with people I'm just not that close to and wouldn't feel comfortable spending time with at a private home. I find the day itself to be a pretty big downer, and even though it isn't my holiday, the relentless media presence and pressure around the day means that Christmas really reminds me of how alone I am. Going to the movies allows me to be around people and have a marvelous distraction that can keep the "alone forever" despair at bay until the world resumes its regularly scheduled programming. I am going to add that the area I live in has a large number of non-Christians, and I know that the manger of the theater has staff specifically requesting to work Christian holidays. Last year, she was complaining that there were too many people who wanted to work Christmas day and this year she has run some sort of lottery of all those volunteering to work that day to select the 'lucky' folks who get a day of double time. That said, it may be different in other areas, but I would hate to see theaters closed - they can be a sanity saver for a lot of people.

I think Jana might be just hanging on by a thread. In Jessa's video she looked pretty miserable while holding Meredith. I think she is waiting for someone to break free first so she doesn't have to do it alone.

I worked in a movie theater in HS.  I was there one holiday season, and I can remember that we were allowed one day of the 3 'big' holidays off (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years) of our choosing.  But we had to work the other two.

I don't really see what the big deal with stores being open on thanksgiving or Christmas.  At certain retail stories they pay their employees extra and give them a full thanksgiving or Christmas meal. They even give them the choice if they want to work or not. It's a business. A lot of things are open on holidays.

I'm betting Josh is already thinking how he can throw his family under the bus. Especially if Bob keeps holding him by the balls. I would hope Joy or Josie escapes.

I'm still holding hope for Jana. She's keeping her head down and keeping quiet with all that is going on with the other siblings, and I am simply hoping that all this time with the distractions of grandbabies and Josh, she has been quietly plotting her escape.

honestly, if she hasn't escaped by now, I doubt she will before marriage. And I still think she's more like Michaela than people want her to be.

I've always thought that the fact that she's such close friends with Priscilla and Michaela spoke volumes.

I like to imagine that Jana will surprise as all--I love that sort of seemingly "out of character" stuff, but I don't believe it would ever actually happen.

As much as I'd like to see her escape, I highly doubt that will happen.  I know it's been mentioned before, but her best (non-family) friends are Michaela Keilen and Priscilla Waller.  I see her married to a guy from HQ before I see her truly escaping.

I think it's going to be one of the middle boys. No one pays much attention to them and they're not in the spot light. That means they can probably get away with a lot more without anyone noticing.

I hate when people try and say 'but when you take a job in retail/movie theaters etc, that's what you're signing up for'. People take jobs because they need money to provide for their families or put a roof over their over head or food in their over stomachs. and sometimes, those are the only jobs they can get. Just because someone is working in a more 'low skilled' job doesn't mean they don't deserve to spend holidays with their families too. I loathe nothing more than seeing corporate suit types saying 'suck it up' to these people when their offices are closed for the holidays.

What's next? People wanting shops to be open Christmas night because heaven forbid people have to go a day or two without the mall being open....

Amen to this. I'm homeless and jobless right now. I'm surviving in a motel because of the kindness of my parents. If the economy was better or I actually had experience in anything beyond nannying in the last 10 years, I might be working one of those jobs. (A it is, it's damned near impossible to get one because no one wants to train -- both my best friend and I were rejected for jobs at McDonalds cause we don't have experience. McDonalds has the ability to be that picky.) If I had one of those jobs, it wouldn't be my choice to work on holidays and I wouldn't be willingly doing it (even if I did it). I would be doing it because it's better than nothing.

As it is, last year I had no ability to go home for thanksgiving and I could only be home for Christmas (home is 3000 miles away, btw) for 2 days because I was expected to be at work on Black Friday and on the 23rd and 27th of December. And I was a nanny then.

At least the bright side of being homeless and jobless right now is that I get to go back to CA for a month and see my family for more than 2 days for the first time in 1 year and 11.5 months.

But that ability is only granted to me because I didn't have the fortune of getting a job. One of the jobs where people are expected to give up their holidays because other people don't see the importance of said holidays.

@duggarstheendisnear Sorry to hear about your situation and truly hope things turn around for you soon.  Too bad you can't earn some $$ for your insightful posts on the Duggars!  I guess that's another "bright side" of your situation.  You have time to share your valuable thoughts on FJ.

My brother is single (much older than Jana but never been married nor does he have any kids) but I jokingly said to him one day- "Hey Jana Duggar is still on the market" (He thinks the Duggars are crazy) He looked at me and said- "yeah she's good looking but she would have to leave that crazy religion and family!" He didn't say it but she would also have to convert to Catholicism because he isn't going IFB. I think he would like a stay at home wife with a couple kids.
