I'll start:

To the people of France (especially Paris) and the people of Lebanon (especially Beirut) - my most heartfelt condolences to you all. I'll keep you all in my thoughts during these scary times and I hope any FJers located in those countries stay safe!

My heart goes to all affected by this tragedy. My heart goes to the children who lost parents in Paris.

So many young people and so many families who are victims. :(

Have all our French members checked in yet to say they are safe?  I seem to be missing a few.  I hope they are alright.

My condolences to everyone who has been affected by this terrible violence.  I am holding you in my thoughts.

this whole situation is just heartbreaking, and i ache for those closely affected and involved.

i don't know if anyone has posted about this yet, but the merch manager for the eagles of death metal (the band playing at the bataclan that night) did not make it out. as far as i've heard, he's the only confirmed crew member that perished.

Sending love to all those affected by these terrible events. :my_heart:

This really hits home for me, as I speak French and have always been fascinated by the French culture. Also, the family I nanny for is Turkish/French and Muslim. I truly adore them. They are some of the kindest people I've had the privilege of knowing. They've only been in the States for a couple of years. It's so hard to see how much they're hurting over this situation.

My husband and I have been to Paris, and other areas of France, many times. One of our sons texted me to say he was glad we aren't there now. And, if we were, chances are extremely high that we would not have been at the concert. However, the odds would be much better that we'd be having a coffee at the restaurant.

No, we weren't there. But many other people were.  It could so easily have been us and I am incapable of comprehending the pain and agony of the victims' loved ones.

First it is horrific numbers. Then the names and photos. And recollections of lives lost. It becomes so real.

We live on a very small planet, presumably unique in our universe. My god, how we have fucked up. Its unbelievable.

You've been in my thoughts since this horror began. It is such a senseless loss of life! My condolences to everyone affected by this.

I woke up to the news that the police is raiding an apartment and that one more civilian has been killed. (At least that's what they are reporting now on CNN, the story is still unfolding.)

I hope everybody is safe and that no more innocent lives are lost.
At least the French police seems to be higly skilled to handle situations like this, that's a positive thing in the middle of the horror we have been witnessing the last week.

So many prayers with so many people.  Was watching the raid on BBC.  Hoping they got who they need to get, even though getting them won't ever mean this will be over.  Prayers for strength for the coming days.

Been watching the "news" coverage of the raids in France. Quite something to watch. That poor city. And now CNN has been inflicted on them.

2 terrorists dead. One shot other blew herself up. Also multiple arrests. From the Paris prosecutor statement.

CNN is not reliable.

Hopefully that is another tragedy averted.

Came back to tell you the news from France.

14 terrorists were involved in the friday's attack. This morning, the police made a "raid" (this sentence is not english, I guess, sorry). One woman was a suicide bomber, she died when the police tried to enter the appartment. She was french, born in 1989 and is suspected to be the cousin of  the terrorist who planned  the attack, Abdelhamid Abaaoud (we still don't know if he got killed in the appartment) One man got killed.  7 other people were arrested. The raid lasted more than 7 hours! (Edit to  add: a third terrorist was maybe also in the appartment, if he was, he is dead now)

That's all the news we  got... As a social worker, it's painful and difficult to explain  that to disabled people, they don't understand why they killed so much people for nothing, there was a lot of crying this morning... Hard times!

Thanks again for your support! France is still alive and none of us will give up !

Thank you for the update.

My thoughts are with you. That is a tough thing to explain.

It makes me sad that people are being subject to such horrific hate. Paris is not supposed to be about that. Not at all.

For those interested in having news that are not cnn, BBC is a pretty good source in English, and so is The Guardian. The Guardian has a live coverage of the events right now, and an item on the Eagles of Death Metal (because someone mention it above).

@LaParisienne et à tous les français: courage! Vous êtes dans nos coeurs et nos pensées !

So is Al Jazeera, and it is available with live streaming on the internet.

My thoughts are with, @LaParisienne - and may Paris regain its spirit soon.

i actually saw a trending topic on eodm and went to their fb page. everybody in the band is now stateside, and it appears nick alexander (the merch manager) was the only one lost. they've cancelled/suspended the rest of their shows for the forseeable future (i can't remember which and of course fb is being a fly in my ointment right now).

I live close enough to the Bataclan to have heard the explosions when the terrorists blew themselves up.

I and all my friends are well, but the whole neighbourhood is dazed.

I laid flowers at the Bataclan and at another shooting site.  A cafe two blocks away lost one of its owners. There is a shrine of flowers outside its still-closed doors.

We've just watched the news on tv. They gave all the details of the raid. My daughter (nearly 3yo) heard part of it before I could take her in another room. She asked why the evil hunters shooted people. In her fairy tale world only hunters shoot and if they shoot people instead of evil monsters then they must be evil. She's living one of those phases when she fears everything, see monsters everywhere and clings to us at any chance. I cried thinking of toddlers whose parents were killed, their fairy tale world shattered and the evil ones took away their parents,  no more mum or dad to cling to. My heart is with those children.

My sweet pup was diagnosed with a brain tumor in September. She passed away in my arms on Thanksgiving morning. It all happened so fast. She didn't want to eat anything the day before, but prior to that was ok. Knew it was near time and had booked an appointment to take her next week. However, she decided for me. She was only 8 and really was one of the best dogs. She never met a stranger, human or dog. Life isn't the same without her.

I made my first Granny Square! After nearly 30 years of knitting and crocheting this was a project I never did. Until now! I needed something to do with my rest of very colourful yarn and now I am very happy. I need to try different needles with my yarns but I think I found something nice for the future.
I needed only 3 different youtube videos until I found a person who explained the concept slowly and repetitive and with words I can understand. I hate when these tutorials make me feel dumb.

Someone please remind me to buy peanut butter. Seriously, I have been meaning to get some for at least three weeks, and everytime I remember, the shops are already closed!

You know what I hate most about subtle racism? The gaslighting. Stop cosplaying as a nice person and say it with your chest.

We had to put our 14 year old dachshund, Trinket, down today.  She was fine Thursday, but by mid-morning yesterday, it was apparent that something was really wrong,  She had zero energy, lost her appetite and began walking into corners.  By morning I knew it was time for her to have her final visit to the vet.  She had lost about a pound and a half recently.  RIP, Trinket!

Horrific! A 6 year old boy was murdered, and mother severly injured, in a hate crime in Chicago. Reports say they are both Palestinian Muslims and were specifically targeted because of that. Thankfully the man who did it is in custody
      This is pure evil
