Here is a new article about the episode cartermatt.com/183082/law-order-svu-season-17-spoilers-more-details-on-19-kids-and-counting-inspired-episode/

“The SVU investigates an unraveling web of secrets when the virtuous 13 year-old daughter of a famous reality TV family discovers she’s pregnant.â€

The episode is titled "Patrimonial Burden" which sort of sounds like she's going to be married to her dad but lets hope not!

It could be that various elements of the Duggar story could be reused later on. I can think of at least five episodes of the Law and Order franchise inspired by the Jonbenet case (i.e., child model or beauty queen killed under mysterious circumstances). True, that was back when there were three iterations of L&O running at the same time, but I wouldn't be surprised if the general idea of a famous mega-sized fundie family hiding dark secrets comes back next year or so.

:wink-kitty: Patrimonial does sound like matrimonial, doesn't it?

Patrimony usually refers to something you inherit from or is passed down by your father. It is sometimes a person's share of a family estate. So I am guessing that the idea is that what the kids get from their father is a burden. They inherit not a better life (as I am sure the not-Duggars in the show will argue) but something that is a burden. Given what we know about the case, the burden is probably the secret about the incest/molestation. But there may be a burden of believing oneself sinful, etc. or the burden of male privilege, or of ignorance... Or all of the above.

I am wondering if the girl who turns out to be pregnant will know how she got pregnant. If they choose to focus on how ignorant these kids are kept, they could conceivably (no pun intended) have a young girl who is raped without realizing what has happened. (There have been a few documented cases like this. It's not unheard of.) It is also possible they will have a girl who has been molested but not fully penetrated and so technically a virgin. (Though very rare, it apparently happens once I a while that ejaculation around the vaginal opening results in pregnancy even without penetration.)

I could see either scenario (girl penetrated but didn't know what it meant or girl not penetrated yet pregnant) adding to the sort of story SVU likes to develop. It would emphasize how the girls are victimized in part because of their ignorance.

Just a thought.

I love SVU. I don't watch it consistently every week, but I'll marathon them when I have nothing going on and most of the time the stories are very compelling and well done. I can't wait to see this one! If you have Hulu, new episodes of SVU are usually available the day after they air.

I can see two episodes coming from this. The first focusing on the molestations. The second focusing on Josh at the FRC and the whole porn/pornstars scandals. I doubt they would do that.

They could add a crime element? Say the porn star gets killed, disappears, or someone is stalking her or attempts to kill her,( which I prefer over murder). Anyhow, though I dont watch Law and Order, I saw this and went YES.

Just saw the promo after this week's episode and of course came running here. "What you see as a crime, we see as a blessing" spoken by "Michelle" to svu detectives

Maybe there will be a prolife element. Would be interesting to see if the pregnancy will be terminated or if an abortion will be passed over because of religious views.

Wonder if a judge would agree that allowing a pregnancy go full term would be cruel and unusual much less child endangerment.

A thirteen year old pregnant is a "blessing"?  That seems far out even for the Duggars.  I guess we need the full context... Maybe the  SUV'Chelle is responding to the suggestion that the kid have an abortion...:my_huh:

I am really looking forward to the episode.

You know what I hope they tackle? A family where girls are locked in their room(s) at night, can't wear nightgowns/pajamas outside their rooms, and parents who teach that little girls are responsible for tempting males by their attire and natural familial affection.

That, plus, you have to forgive and be sweet when you've been sexually violated by your brother as long as he says he's sorry to Jeebus.

And finally, I'd love a storyline where a girl abused in such a family gets pissed off at her messed up parents and brother once Olivia, et al, explain that it's actually a crime, punishable by law, not something to push under the rug and avoid.

Bringing over my post from the shelter because I thought of another one. I want them to show the person responsible (presumably the oldest brother, if they're trying to mirror reality at least a bit) ACTUALLY GETS CRIMINAL CONSEQUENCES.

And, of course, the victims get appropriate clinical treatment.

I guess they couldn't make them too much of a likeness of the Duggars to cover their backsides. I would've liked to have seen more curls and frumpers, but will watch this episode. I wish Stabler would return. Would love to see him go to town on "JB and Michelle".

I'm very excited for this, & may actually break my "no-cbs/nbc/abc network shows" rule to watch it. I love SVU, & can only imagine how Olivia & Finn would handle the Duggar-like shenanigans.

Bring back Elliott, too; I'd love to see him (& Olivia) open a can o'whoopass.

I'm butthurt about the lack of baby voice but still looking forward to seeing how the episode plays out.

It DOES look like they are maybe going with the "vacation" or "TV appearance" to get the family to NYC (kids towing luggage in promo)

The couple who is looking at a camera during one of the preview shots looks like it is supposed to be Anna and Smuggar. The lady has the Anna "I adore you" gaze looking up at him and the dude is in a suit.

Jessa and Jill are not girls they are grown azz married women. Any references to Duggar "girls" should exclude them.

Yes... Physically. Mentally though?

I am really with you on this one Trynn. The fact is, the way this cult(ure) raises their young women, Jessa and Jill are not really grown women. They have graduated from adoring daughters into baby making machines for their new headship, and since their new heaships aren't strong enough, Jill and Jessa are still being directed by their father.
