I am familiar with Thomasville. This is a very small town, in the heart of the Bible Belt. Fundamentalism dominates that area, and a child would have no chance of being believed if he or she accused a preacher or other church official. Their only recourse is to hang on until they are grown and can leave. Unfortunately, in shame and desperation, it is likely they will fall into harmful relationships or into substance abuse. That kind of damage festers and often leaves the victims in misery, while the perpetrators enjoy the respect of the congregation and the community. And all the while, groom the next victim.
