Of course. Because every woman dreams of her husband looking at her and getting all turned on because she is in her best dress and having him exclaim, "WOW! What a modest dress!"

I maintain that JB was doing some major damning with faint praise. That dress was awful.

I decided to check the website for the Dillards' sponsoring church (Cross Church) and it is pretty mainstream compared to the Duggar "home church." The lead pastor is even the president of the Southern Baptist Convention and the church has a serious commitment to missions (although I could not find any specific references to Derrick & Jill on the site). If you go to the pastor's blog there's also a fascinating series of articles on the SBC's International Mission Board requiring a "reset" due to a shortage of funds in the past few years - apparently this is a big deal in the SBC.

That said, the most interesting point is that among Cross Church's ministries is that they have a Dance Ministry! How non-Duggar is that (especially considering the recent posts about the Dillards and dancing at Amy's wedding)? Here is the description:

[tab=30]Cross Church Dance Ministry is a Christ-centered praise dance ministry under the umbrella of the Worship Ministry of Cross Church - Springdale. We seek to bring out the best in each girl while consistently pointing them to worship our Creator using their minds, bodies and spirits. We encourage our girls to live their lives in a manner worthy of the cross of Jesus Christ! It is at the cross we find our worth, our beauty, our reason to DANCE! The ministry is for 2 year olds and up.

"who run the world? GIRLS!"

Or a message to Josh: "Since I'm not your everything, how about I be nothing? Nothing at all to you? Baby I won't shed a tear for you, I won't lose a wink of sleep, the truth of the matter is that replacing you is so easy...to the left, to the left, everything you own in a box to the left"

Really, no one destroys no-good men quite like Queen Bey.

Christ-centered praise dance ministry

I can't. I can't believe this combination of words spilled out of somebody's keyboard. Dare I ask how one is supposed to 'praise dance'?

ETA: I googled this and now wish I hadn't.

I just wanted to point out that Oklahoma won their game 41-3 and WVU had a shutout 44-0. Congrats, Oklahoma, and we'll see you soon.

Praise dance comes from the holy spirit. Still Fundie but different.

I don't know if anyone on FJ has ever seen the disturbing movie Jesus Camp. It features a dancer aged 10 or so that was concerned that her dances were pure from the spirit; and that she was not " dancing for the flesh." :?

My vote is that after the wedding, Jim Bob gathered all his sons together and gave them a lecture about the dangers of boobies and the evil wickedly sinfulness of their enticement. Michelle will probably chime in with worries of Satan invading all of the boys' brains to build fortresses of temptation. And both of them will demand that the boys never, ever look at breasts or think about how their cousin's breasts looked in her wedding dress.

I'm pretty sure that's going to be ten years worth of therapy for at least one or two J'Howlers after they reach adulthood.

I have seen that documentary! It hurt to watch those little kids...remember the little boy who was crying because IRRC he felt like he wasn't "worthy" and a "real" Christian. He was like 8 and sobbing.

My guess is that the boys are going to "cherish" that image for many years to come. It is going to be the closest they get to porn for a long time. JB might do his best but it is hard to fight basic biology.

It's interesting they are asking for support from Cross Church. I rather expected Daddy JB to be funding a lot of their "missions work". I also would have expected Jill to have a bit in the bank herself....

Silly Matthew. Spending your OWN money is just for idiots.

I imagine Jim Bob has gotten a little more tight fisted now that the gravy train has reached the end of the line. It's time for the kids to spread their wings and grift from strangers, just like daddy taught them.

I looked at the Instagram picture after and saw Dan was in the photo so you're probably right. Maybe Derrick's step-dad watched him but we'll never know because he likes to stay out of the public eye but are men even allowed to watch babies in fundie-land? I just couldn't imagine taking a baby into a movie theater.

I'm probably in the minority here, but when my daughter was a baby, our movie theater was nearly always dead, empty, and completely outdated (they actually demolished it and then rebuilt it when she was around 3). We would go to late night shows (when she was down for the night) on the week days, with little ear muffs on her ears. Occasionally we'd even go in and ask them to turn down the volume, and they'd comply, because we were the only ones watching the film. We also went to an occasional drive-in, because we live in a part of the world where one still exists. The first movie we wouldn't see much of, but she'd usually fall asleep midway through and then we could relax and watch.

Had the theater been regularly busy and packed, or the situation somehow different, we might not have done that. But that theater was really badly attended, so our chances of disturbing other patrons was VERY low. I actually suspected that the place might be laundering money somehow; it made no sense how it continued to operate with so few customers. The replacement theater is more modern, much bigger, and much better attended. Although if it happens to be quiet on a weeknight, and I suddenly magically had a newborn again, I might try again.

I felt pretty isolated from normal life postpartum. Little things like going to a movie or having regularly scheduled get-togethers really helped.

As I understand, Commissioning missionaries in the SBC affords them legitimacy. There usually is a prayer offered on their behalf and sometimes a responsive statement and affirmation from the congregation. They're asked to recognize their call from God for this work, commit to support them, pray for them, encourage them, etc. It formalizes their mission work.

The financial support is separate. If the church is providing their funding, they'll be accountable to its leadership. If the SBC is, then they will report to them. If they're soliciting private funding, that's the easiest of all in terms of oversight and accountability. No one cranky church elder or mission committee chairman can yank their support, and they can pull from a broad base of donors.

During Boy R & M's first year of chemo, he was not able to be in school full time. We figured out we could take him to see late showings of movies because he didn't have to be up early to attend regular school. The arrangement worked really well because his immune system was compromised at that time, and theaters were always deserted between 10 to midnight. We caught more than a few films at midnight on the days they opened, and it was something fun to do at that time that did not put him at risk for getting sick.

He loved telling people about how he got to see new movies at midnight. Unfortunately, I almost never made it through them, since I would always fall asleep. :wink-kitty:

Aw, that's a great way to have some bonding time and have a bit of fun during a difficult time! Midnight showings are the best.

Mexico is not a 3rd world country.

I agree but many areas are underdeveloped and give the overall country that impression.

Well, you could say that about parts of the US as well.

The 1st, 2nd and 3rd world terms are dated anyways, and were originally used to describe political alliances. 1st world was the US and it's allies 2nd world was the Eastern European Bloc. 3rd world was the "neutral" nations, most of which just happened to be rather poor.

Better terms to describe a nation would probably be: Developed, Developing, and Undeveloped. Poverty has nothing to do with it, it's mostly about how industrialized it is. There are parts of the US and other "1st world" nations that are poorer than "3rd".
