Thoughts? Real, fake, belongs to some other random guy who cheats on his spousal unit and has freakishly controlling parents?

Theres only five or six posts spanning from December 2012 to Jan. 2013

I see that it's been discovered this was fake (boo.) But just curious how you came across it to begin with?

I have a confession to make. I'm Josh. Just kidding. I've never understood the "all sins are equal" mentality. I get it in theory. We're all sinners, nobody's perfect, but God forgives us anyway, Jesus died for everyone, blah blah blah. So, if that's the case, why are fundies so focused on certain sins? Like being LGBT, having an abortion, or being an atheist? (Not sins, but they think they are) But covering up sexual abuse, lying, having affairs, and beating your children are all totally acceptable because Jesus forgives sins?!?!?!??! Does.not.compute.

It's at the very end of the show.

On Josh's treatment for "porn addiction":

"Oh Josh, dude, you’re just horny. I’d say the genie is out of the bottle but I’m afraid you’d bang the genie. And the bottle.â€

I certainly wouldn't be surprised.

How ironic would it be if one day, we would find out that a respected poster was in fact Joshy Madison (or another fundie) all along.

After a respected member turned out to be a Serbian concentration camp guard, nothing on FJ surprises me anymore. Unless Curious is revealed to be Josh ;)

I left the rcc about a year ago. Nothing has changed. Dying in a state of (mortal) sin would send you to hell.

The Roman Catholic Church does not believe in a physical "Hell" anymore. Pope John Paul II even made a huge announcement about it about 15 years ago.

.nytimes.com/1999/09/18/arts/hell-getting-makeover-catholics-jesuits-call-it-painful-state-but-not-sulfurous.html

Hell is not a literal place. It is a metaphor about separation from God. According to the RCC.

Let's just say, over 30 years ago, when I was in Catholic school, we were taught hell wasn't literal, but a separation from god.

I wouldn't be surprised either. But, I would think it would cause him immense distress to realize that, all his life, another whole world, with many different ideas and concepts, has been kept from him. No matter how hard he would try to cling to his beliefs, he would still have to begin to open his eyes and realize maybe some of his beliefs need to change based on new evidence. I would imagine his world would collapse for a while.

I started CCD classes as a first grader in the late 60's. No literal hell was ever taught.

Maybe a post Vatican II thing? I left the church as soon as I was old enough (although I know it can still claim me), but I can say all of the stuff they tried to teach me was pretty mild. (Aside from the anti-abortion stuff that was totally over-the-top after Roe v. Wade.) And I can't recall even having to read from a Bible.

Burris. At least that's what she claimed to be. I'm not sure if we have proof she was talking the truth.

Now, that Josh is in the "rehab" facility - I am wondering: Since the ATI/Fundie rules require women to obey their husbands, where does this leave Anna now that her husband is away in treatment for an extended amount of time? Who does she "obey"?

Also, would Anna be able to/have the presence of mind to get an STD panel/pap smear done regularly to ensure that she did not contract any sexually transmitted diseases if Josh was in fact having unprotected sex with other women? Is this allowed in the ATI/Fundie belief system?

The person who responded to me referenced an article that Pope John Paul II had made an announcement in 1999 that Hell should not be conceived of as a place. There has been an official Vatican transcript of his general audience from 1999.

Both of these questions have been discussed extensively in this thread or the earlier parts of it.

If you don't care to read the threads through, you can always search for keywords to find the discussion.

Personally I prefer to read the threads through, even though it's not "live" anymore.

Burris turned out to be pretending to be a Serbian Concentration Camp Guard. And the pretence seemed to start at round about the time it became clear that she wasn't as widely respected as she might have hoped.

So.... if Josh is here, he is probably posting as a slightly skeevy arsehole that no-one has really noticed much.

But if Curious is Josh then we are going to lose our board administrator for 6 months just as soon as the weekly room inspection takes place and her/his secret internet device is rooted out from between her/his sticky sheets. :o

Please, please tell me it was AnnoDomini, as AD was the only one who truly struck me as batshit crazy.

As was mentioned above, Burris claimed to he a Serbian concentration camp guard but this was thoroughly debunked.

And certainly a HIPAA violation.

If they were medical practitioners and subject to HIPAA -- but I don't believe they are, as others have also stated. However, I do think it is weird and exploitative that they post this. Not that "weird and exploitative" should surprise me about them

In addition to that, I don't see Josh being smart enough or worldly enough to create a url like s3cr3tl1f3. He wasn't creative enough to make his Ashley Madison name not a J name for gods sake.

Yep -- that smacks of someone who was exposed to way more mainstream culture early on. Also, if you google "s3cr3tl1f3" you find a bunch of seemingly related accounts, including a Last.fm where the user states she's a girl. Could be a coincidence. Is it possible the most recent blog wasn't an attempt to represent Josh?

I'm thinking now that the school itself may make the difference. In grammar school in the 70s we were definitely taught about eternal hell fire. I went to two different catholic high schools. In one we read quite a bit of the bible. In the other I don't remember reading the Bible at all, but we were taught to use birth control. ...in detail.

Lmk if I'm getting too far off the main topic here with this side discussion.

Libby Anne at Love, Joy, Feminism has a detailed post on RU head Paul Kingsbury and his alleged habit of shielding sex offenders in his ministries. Maybe Josh can go work for him when he gets out.
