Looking through some of their facebook pictures, there are definitely some rough, addict looking people who presumably haven't been raised in a tidy clean Christian home. I think this will be good for him in the sense of making him uncomfortable, breaking him even, dare I say it. People like that are the type of people Josh Duggar is used to lording over and proselytizing to on the regular as fundie royalty. He's used to ministry and definitely not being ministered to.

It occurred to me when we went fundie that there were the people in ministry, the honchos and we were the sheep. We had to be shepherded while they lived the life from the shoot - they were the arrows from the quiver and we were the lost receiving them. It puts in a caste system. Josh is no longer the arrow, he's going to be sitting there with crack addicts and alcoholics. This isn't a bad thing. It's hard to be smug when you're doing your best not to get in trouble and have to sleep in a homeless shelter.

EDIT: Think about it - This time last year he was director of a political pact in Washington and people worshipped him, now he's sitting next to a bunch of grungy addicts. That's not going to be good for his pride.

Then, he'll come home to wife and kiddies and the next time he has an affair, he'll be a lot more sophisticated about it and he won't have to worry about being caught.

Where I went to fundie church, my friend to me she complained to the pastor's wife that her husband was relentlessly begging her for sex and the pastor turned around and gave the husband a talking to about tormenting his wife sexually. So yeah she totally could.

People told the pastor EVERYTHING. He would just call the person up and tell them what to do like it was his business to tell them how to live - which I guess to him, he felt like it was.

They say that if you think about something three times it’s just as bad as doing it. If you think about sex, it results in this rush of testosterone. So it goes like this: Immodest women cause rushes of testosterone in men and cause them to irresistibly assault–either sexually or violently–women. All the blame is put on the women and how they dress. There is very little responsibility put on men to just not rape women. That’s kind of their ethics going into it. It’s kind of infiltrated mainstream Christianity.

I'm still looking at this schedule. So lights out at 10:00 and 4:30 wake up call. So six and a half hours of sleep-- if you fall asleep immediately as soon as your head hits the pillow. Smugger is now supposed to do manual labor for 9 hours a day and then only get 6 hours of sleep at night. He is going to be one tired puppy. This is probably what they want, extremely worn out people who don't have the strength to fight the brainwashing. I'd be willing to bet that they are underfed as well.

Under forbidden items: Music (music will be provided by RUI) I'm guessing hymns will be provided.

On the topic of care packages: Note: If the receiving student has weight problems, please do not send junk food. Hmm, I wonder who makes that call? And do you think Anna will be forgiving enough to send him care packages? Maybe the Duggar youngsters will be told to put together a package for their brother as practice in Christian forgiveness.

That's a good question. I would think "maybe," depending on who she talked to about it. On one hand, she's supposed to do what he says, but on the other, that's not "right" sex that could end in a pregnancy. Christian Nymphos seemed okay with it, though they're not exactly fundamentalists.

I'm gonna guess 6 weeks. He was a spokesperson for a DC lobbyist organization. People think he is going to be treated like a kid, with a bedtime, telling him when to shower, not allowed complaints, etc..? It is not even a medical facility. At least if it were a substance abuse rehab you could say the rules were medically necessary.

This is exactly how fundamentalism works, and why it's a cult. The longer I stayed at the church I was at, the more active my life became. You're expected at all church services and functions, someone's always wanting to come over or do something with you or wants you to come over, etc. Wednesday is church, Sunday all day is church, choir practice, cleaning the church, nursery duty, picking up people who don't have a car, bus duty, soul winning on Saturday morning. Your life is church and those people are your life. There's no time for anything else. That's the whole culture in a nutshell.

My parents told me while I was growing up that psychology was a tool Satan set up to divert people from God and was one of his "false religions" to keep people deceived and from discovering true salvation.

P.S. Mr. CD is a counselor at an inpatient treatment facility and has his addiction counseling certification through the state. My parents refused their blessing on our engagement. His profession wasn't the reason they gave, but it certainly didn't help.

So I finally made an account in response to the latest. Because I'm a survivor of abuse and Josh Duggar just sets off wayyyy too many warning bells for me. When I read Danica Dillon's account I couldn't help but think what an abusive jerk he came across as being. Very Jian Gomeshi, acting like he thought it was normal to have scarily rough sex with no negotiation or warning or anything. And then he was able to come up with a convincing enough apology that she was willing to go with him again (albeit very cautiously). But hey, one thing he's learned to really well is to sound like he's sincerely sorry, right? :pink-shock: Yuck! I'm sure he's not the only creepy dude she's encountered, but I really felt bad she had to deal with him when he was such a jerk. Talk about a breach of workplace safety!

And I really lolDuggar-ed at the idea that going to fundie rehab is going to help him with his underlying problem. Because (a) he learned his fucked up notions about sexuality and power from the very same sources and (b) could he really have MOAR JESUS than he's already gotten in life? :roll:

I have a lot of compassion for Anna and I truly hope she finds some way to get to a safe place for her and for her kids. An uphill battle, I know, but one can hope. (While I'm at it I guess I'll ask for a pony and a plastic rocket--sadly, getting those might be equally likely! :( )

From what I've seen of Joshie's work ethic I can't see it being a long term proposition. I think he'll be "cured" pdq.

Oh, and please tell me it costs $7500 a month and not for the full course of "treatment".

$7500 for the full treatment PLUS it appears they must apply for Govt food assistance if they are eligible. So $7500 put up by family and maybe one's church plus any welfare benefits they are eligible.

That seems weird to me that people eligible for benefits must collect them and hand them over. There does not seem to be any extra charge for "students" who are not eligible for benefits.

I can't even believe how crappy this situation is for Anna right now. He gets to go away, live a little dorm life, do some work, pray real hard. She's at home going through ALL the emotions that comes with an unfaithful husband, hiding from media, PLUS caring for a newborn and 3 small children. Not a moment's peace for this poor girl whilst Jesus patrol is slapping his fingers. He will descend a recovered soldier, winning the war on Satan once again. And she'll have no choice, but to forgive and forget.

The whole situation is gross.

I don't think that Josh will be having any sort of a good time in this place. It sounds like prison and I can't believe that he agreed to go. Maybe he agreed because it sounds like a piece of cake to him---he is used to having bible study every day. ...blah blah blah. He will not be having a good time, however---by any stretch of the imagination.

Since this story came out, I have been thinking of the case of Mary Winkler, the Church of Christ pastor's wife who killed her husband, used the battered wife defense, and won. I remember that Winkler said that her pastor husband demanded anal sex from her, and she acquiesced to his demand, although she said she found it painful and demeaning. Given how Anna probably has even less sexual knowledge than Winkler, I think she would probably acquiesce like her if asked. Alternately, Anna could snap if pushed too hard... :?
