Marky Mark got dumped

For those of you who don't know Marky Mark, he's a conservative MRA blogger. He spends much of his time ranting about the perils of marriage, how American women suck because they won't date him, and scouting the local roller rink for young single mothers. Well, Marky Mark apparently got himself a South American girlfriend (because they treat men better down there, dontcha know? ). She was due to visit the US, get married to him, and help him move to her country. At least, that's the impression he was under, but we all know that reality and Marky Mark's perception don't always jive. Two months passed and... *crickets*

 

Yeah. She never showed up.

Wow, I just read through some of his blog and it begs the question:

Exactly how has this man not been snatched up in holy matrimony yet?

Oh right. Because he's gross. Of course she backed out on her "promise". Can you imagine flying thousands of miles to help him CLEAN his house, then pack and then get married and then help him move in with you thousands of miles away? Yeah, no. It's a miracle he's still single.

The whole "go find a subservient foreign woman to marry you" mentality... ugh. Those women are desperate to escape something. They don't give a shit about you. And the will, if they're smart leave you as soon as they can.

My favorite sendup of the mail-order bride phenomenon was in the final season of the extremely snarky British television comedy "Teachers". A particularly unattractive, misogynistic mouth-breather who's part of the regular cast picks a Vietnamese "bride" from a catalog ... then has to deal with the fallout when she shows up and is strong-willed, a bit mercenary, utterly uninterested in him, and intent on seducing his younger, more conventionally handsome colleague.

I live in Thailand, and know many Western husband/Thai wife marriages. Many are genuine partnerships, and work well, often with the Thai partner helping to  run a business successfully. Some involve men seeking subservience, with meals cooked, house cleaned and sex on demand  - but god forbid they ever take their wife out socially! Many of these don't seem to last long, with one of three things happening:

1.She finds a Thai boyfriend, who she supports on her husband's money. (sometimes, tragically, these situations have ended in the murder of the husband)

2. She finds a new foreign boyfriend, often online, and moves on.

3. She persuades him to put much of their property in her name (there are strict regulations here which make  foreign ownership of property almost impossible), and eventually leaves him virtually penniless.

There are also very sad situations where foreign husbands just move on to a new model every few years, and wife and children are left in the dust.  And perhaps most common of all, in my mostly retired community, there are elderly foreign husbands who start a new family without making proper provision for them after their death - when their pension dies as well. These children often go from a pampered, private school western lifestyle, to an almost subsistence existence in the very poor North Eastern part of Thailand, which is where most of those who marry foreigners originate.

Please, I am not saying that many of these marriages are not happy and fulfilling for both parties - but there is a noticeable percentage that are not.

I also know several men who have left their Western wife for a nice 'subservient' Thai wife, who have found after marriage that the new wife emphatically rules the roost!(And expects him to support her family as well as her).

One of my husband's acquaintances went to the Philippines to find himself a nubile young bride (the guy was a creeper). Lo and behold, he engaged the services of a matchmaker, married a lovely young woman, and brought her to the US.

Two years later, he has an infant son and his wife rules the house. She is a very religious Catholic and a portion of their income is sent back to her family and she plans on more kids. The guy is totally befuddled. But...but....he married this hot young thing from an island! And he was supposed to get a subservient sex goddess! And instead he goes to work and comes home and takes care of a baby and is required to do home repairs and she isn't okay with him watching porn and he only goes out with "the guys" once a month because he's got a lot to do at home.

Everyone saw this coming. EVERYONE. She was upfront about what kind of marriage she expected, about her desire for several children, about the need to support her family being the main reason she'd signed up for this service. He ignored it all because HOT YOUNG GIRL MARRIAGE SEX.

Oddly, except for the befuddlement that things turned out like this, he seems happy enough. Adores his son, adheres to the rules his wife has established.
