In addition to being a child molester who victimized his own sisters, golden boy Joshua Duggar had 2 accounts on Ashley Madison, a website whose motto is "Life is Short, Have an Affair." He paid extra for the Affair in 3 Months or Your Money Back! guarantee.

 

Earlier today (8-20-2015) he issued a statement admitting to being unfaithful. The statement has been edited twice since it went up. The first edit removed the awesome reference to Satan's Fortress in Josh's heart that gives this thread its title. The second edit removed reference to a porn addiction, and some mention of the molestation scandal.

I have been the biggest hypocrite ever. While espousing faith and family values, I have secretly over the last several years been viewing pornography on the internet and this became a secret addiction and I became unfaithful to my wife.

 

I am so ashamed of the double life that I have been living and am grieved for the hurt, pain and disgrace my sin has caused my wife and family, and most of all Jesus and all those who profess faith in Him.

 

I brought hurt and a reproach to my family, close friends and the fans of our show with my actions that happened when I was 14-15 years old, and now I have re-broken their trust.

I've had similar thoughts. Working in the political arena in D.C., Josh would have seen a lot of things that contradicted his upbringing. He would meet and work with conservative and Christians who didn't grow up isolated, who go out and do fun things with their friends. People who go to the beach for the weekend and wear bathing suits. He would see single men and women have private conversations and who do things together without a chaperone and don't fall into bed together. He would see people who date normally, date multiple people and still have good, happy marriages. He seemed to go to a lot of parties, he would see people having cocktails with no harm coming to them. And he would be working with and encountering a lot of people with real educations from accredited universities and law schools. Even with his smug know-it-all attitude he would have realized how inadequate his own education was.

I always figured his job duties consisted only of being a public face, attending events and delivering speeches written by others. He probably thought he'd be doing real work, drafting polices and strategies, etc. But then he was told "let the people with actual educations handle that." If he really is smart (as people have said) that would be very painful for him.

If he gets real, secular mental health help, he'll quickly realize how screwed up the Gothard/ATI philosophy is and how it contributed to his sexual issues.

I'm guessing his family isn't really going to want him around much, so he doesn't really have much to lose there if he breaks away and/or starts telling all. It would be amazing if he wrote a book in conjunction with a mental health professional. He could talk about the way he was raised and things he was taught and the mental health professional could follow up each anecdote with an explanation of why that particular point is actually harmful to people. He could become a go-to guy for reporters and talk show hosts who want to discuss religion and the harms of extremism.

But that also means he would have to think he doesn't have any hope of his family life ever returning to what it was before the scandals broke. Something tells me the full wrath of Jessa is rather scary and something he'd want to avoid.

When I first heard the story, I figured Josh probably didn't actually score a date with anyone, but this language is here for a reason.

Even if he didn't find someone amongst all the menfolk at that site, this language is here because he's afraid someone he had sex with will sell her story. Wouldn't surprise me if he became a serial cheater once they moved to DC and he was truly free for the first time. "Honey, gotta work late tonight. Real important FRC business." And given that his D-list celebrity status as a member of an uber-Christian family probably made cheating with work colleagues and associates next to impossible, it's a safe bet any "relationships" were on a pay-per-date basis.

Continuing the topic of Anna and the house...

I am not a degreed law professional™ but I know that, generally speaking, most states have laws to the effect that if the house was bought after the marriage, it's equally owned by both spouses.

Anna has power and options here. It a question of

1. Does she realize she has power and options?

2. Is she willing to use the power and exercise her options?

She controls access to the grandchildren and JB and DQ are not going to want to lose that.

She could go the tell-all route. I think just hinting at that would get JB's wallet open fast and wide.

I know she was raised Gothard/ATI, but seeds of doubt could be sprouting in her mind. Might she be angry and frustrated at being told her only option is to forgive him and continue as if all is well? I think there has to be at least a tiny piece of her brain thinking that it's really screwed up that no matter what Josh does, all she's supposed to do is play "stand by your man." She has to be wondering if there's yet another scandal waiting to explode.

I can see how someone who wanted an out could rationalize the child molestation as being in the past and Josh having gotten help, being truly sorry and forgiven. But him cheating on her while she was pregnant?

This has probably damaged if not destroyed her expectation and desire to have lots and lots of kids and her and Josh being JB and DQ part two: Electric Bugaloo. I would think she's enraged, crushed or both. Having escaped the trailer lifestyle and enjoying all the money and privileges of being a Duggar, is she going to want to go back to being poor and having so many kids stuffed into a small living space with no financial freedom? I'm sure she imagined her huge family in a large house with freebies and money rolling in.

And she has to know that this is going to hurt her children in various ways.

That's a lot of fuel for anger at being betrayed and she might just end up letting some of that anger override the expectation for her to keep sweet.

I finally was able to catch up on the threads! I swear when I got done with one page, there was already another. Anyway, I think it's glaringly obvious that they haven't got a PR person considering all of the edits to Josh's statement on the blog. I wonder if their last PR person was contracted through TLC? Might be a good investment Jim Bob because that statement really fumbled imo. The first sentence was blunt but then it just wavered.

Anyway I was thinking on this in the other older thread that someone resurrected titled I could see Josh having an affair and I'm surprised at the amount of people who said they didn't see him doing such things. Maybe it's me but I think that everyone is capable of cheating, everyone has had/will have at least one instance where you decide whether to stay faithful or stray. A lot of factors come in but I am really really not surprised by Josh. When I heard he was going to work in DC, I figured that his marriage would go into the shitter. There's a huge culture of infidelity among political circles. I quoted Lady Bird Johnson in the other thread -- when asked about her husband's affairs in a tv interview, she coyly responded "my husband loves people, all people, and half those people are women". Hillary Clinton and Jackie O were also rumored to have been well aware of the affairs of their husbands. If several Presidents of the United States have affairs, I'm sure wannabe politico Josh Duggar was gleefully joining in on the fun too.
