I think some of the Duggar kids WILL leave sooner or later

I can see Boob and J'Chelle try to get even more controlling, but seriously, what can they do?

Sure, they can terrorize the lost girls, but good luck with the howlers. They are unruly, they haven't been as trained as the older kids and they don't seem to have a deep emotional connection to their parents.

JD is out of the house, Joseph away in college, and Josiah is probably still licking his wounds after the courtship fail, he might just decide that courting is stupid and give some conservative dating a go, like Zach Bates did.

And honestly, I could actually see the remaining J'Slaves rebelling and saying "fuck it" if their parents tried to take away their small privileges.

Boob and J'Chelle aren't dealing with young kids and tweens anymore, but with a dozen teens and adults. That is quiet a difference.

I have two children. Mr. growelly and I never wanted more, because then we'd be outnumbered.

But seriously - the older the kids get, the more illusory the power is the JB&M possess over them. One or more of them is going to realize this eventually.

And from what I'm reading here, those of you that left were made to feel like you were abandoning your family as well as the religion. I don't think the howlers or the lost girls will feel that loyalty to their bio parents... though maybe to their sister moms.

Oh, when I said "everyone's watching them" I meant like...their fans, their critics, etc. No, the attention within the home is focused elsewhere, I agree with that.

I could see Boob and Mullet getting uber controlling with the rest of em, but I think they're probably too burnt out for that. I just think the adult children/kids would be scared to leave because of everyone OUTSIDE of their family watching them.

The media really doesn't care what the kids who aren't making babies or involved in scandals are up to. We know who the other kids are, but they aren't of interest to the vast majority of the world. No one is following Joseph around and if he decides to move in with a couple of friends "for the summer only" it's not going to make headlines or probably get much notice. Does anyone really still believe JD is living in that hellish TTH? No one cares either way aside from some people in the internets.

If its gradual, no one will take note. If, and I strongly suspect this will happen if JB and Michelle don't wise up, there is an uprising of howlers in a few years (I'm getting a Planets of the Apes vision now; sorry boys) it will get media attention.

I really don't think anyone is that scared. Jim Bob and Michelle have their own major problems right now and aren't likely interested enough to micromanage the younger sons. And finding courtship partners is probably out of the question. Much better to gradually move along. To fundie college, to an apartment with some other Christian lads where they can get jobs or go to trade school. The show required they keep up appearances and stay together. Josh's behavior has shattered all illusions and delusions about this family. There's no good reason to keep all of the young men in that house and plenty of reasons to have them move on with their own lives, sooner rather than later.

Given that JD can't even be trusted to have his own social media accounts, I have a hard time believing that he lives on his own. JD always came across as a guy who just tows the line, either because he doesn't want to rock the boat or because he just isn't the type to go against his parents. I always interpreted him getting the plane as a sort of "thank you" gift from JB for being a dutiful, submissive son, and possibly as a way to keep him further loyal to the family/brand.

JD has owned a house near Jilly Muffin's McMansion for quite some time now. I'm sure it's fully renovated by now. Maybe he's renting it out and waiting to court. Or maybe he's living there most of the time. Not having a social media account could very well be a compromise. Not that he strikes me as the kind of guy who wants to advertise where he is and what he's eating every moment of the day. He wasn't raised with the internet and may have little interest in the social media aspect of it.

Dude is entering his late 20's. He has a house and a plane. I find it hard to believe he's sleeping in jeans in a little bed next to Justin with no bedspread so his mommy and daddy can peek in and make sure he's not touching his naughty parts.

As horrible as what happened is, any kid who has been wanting a out without disowning the family just got it. Jana, Jinger, JD, ect could say "mom, dad, I love you but I just can't handle the stress that keeps being brought into the household." Could they really blame them?

That being said, I rarely even login in and it's even more rare for me to post but I luker errryday. I've posted about how I live by the family and how they'd frequently come into the store I use to work in, the funny thing is no one in town really seems to care. My Fb blew UP about the last scandal but no one seems to be blinking an eye at this.

I think it's because the Duggars were already done and dusted when the news broke.

No one is going to pay any attention to the next scandal. The Duggars are going to fade away now.

So, what would happen if one of the Kidults just got a FB or Insta account without getting "permission"? They can use their phones for that stuff, right? At 25, is the kid proofing really stumping them? I mean, JD can fly a damned airplane across the country on his own, but not be trusted to use Twitter? Seriously?

It's easy to condemn a child molester. How many people who commented on the last scandal are looking over their shoulder hoping that their Ashley Madison account or their spouse's wasn't hacked. And how many are worried that the porn site they've used isn't hacked or maybe they've had an affair and hope that person keeps quiet.

I get the impression that JD just isn't an 'instagram' kinda guy anyway? He doesn't seem as vocally 'preachy' as Josh or Jessa are and he seems a quiet kinda guy and not really the type to want to post a picture of himself eating chick-fil-a because he's #blessed.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if he is out of TTH (I can't picture an almost 26 year old guy sleeping in a dorm bedroom with his 18-11 year old brothers) and living somewhere on his own quietly and Boob has given him the place to live and the plane in return for making appearances on the show and keeping his mouth shut about how he is 'really' living.

He didn't need Boob to give him a place to live. He bought a house (more accurately obtained one in exchange for labor) at least 3 years ago. It's owned outright and the deed is in his name. It needed work, but there are plenty of free laborers around and JD seems pretty handy himself.

Good for him tbh.

Maybe he's just toeing the party line because he doesn't want to lose his family/feels a sense of obligation to protect his twin Jana. Maybe he can help her out of there now.

(I still think his lack of instagram presence is down to lack of interest/desire rather than a lack of 'permission'.)

I think that JD not having social accounts is more a matter of who JD is than any conversation that involves his parents. I would think he wouldn't really be interested in it, especially since he grew up without it. He also seems to enjoy keeping to himself, so why would he want to put himself out there more?

I do think one of them will eventually break away, though I think it'll be a more gradual fading from the presence of the family (JD...) than an explosive departure, like Cynthia Jeub. Hopefully anyone who leaves will be allowed to continue speaking with their siblings, unlike in the Jeub household.

I think JB and M will double down on the controlling. I also think this will lead to kids leaving. Its like that song, how do you keep them down on the farm after they've seen Peree? Now that they have seen what money is like, what traveling is like (if only a bit) what the internet is like cracking down will have unexpected consequences.

I'm betting in less than 10 years all but the youngest few girls will be gone and most of the younger kids will have abandoned fundieism. The TV show and Josh kinda ruined JB's and Michelle's plans.

And while I'm in a gambling mood, I predict at least one atheist. Or at least one registered Democrat.

What the hell are they going to do with that monstrosity of a house with two huge dorm rooms?

I think any of them registered as something like Independent/Non-partisan would be considered a significant break in JB and Michelle's eyes.

They'll have to deal with it the same way I would if one of my kids becomes a right winger. That's life. And at this point even those two idiots could probably see it's a far lesser crime than molesting children or cheating on your spouse.

The Duggar kids are so ill equipped to handle life as adults that I wouldn't be surprised if several of them remained at home and never married. That house will have a kind of creepy Peter Pan vibe with 100+ grandkids running around and 3-4 middle aged aunts and uncles still acting like 12 year olds.

Leaving is extremely hard. While some kids are extraordinarily sheltered (like the Duggars and Bates were pre-reality TV shows) and have no clue what "real life" is even like, others are ATI but even are secret fence sitters and are just lax about the rules when they're in their home environment. Some people adhere to ATI as house rules- believing in the system - without ever actually becoming members and therefore aren't pressure to stick to the status quo so much. (All these families would still be considered very strict Christians/fundies still.)

The kids who grow up extremely sheltered are honestly fed bull-shit lies about why some people leave. You are not told that poor Sarah left the church because of all the complicated questions she had about all the rules and regulation, or that she still wants to be a Christian, just a different kind (if that's the case). You are told something like, "Well, Sarah cares more about makeup than God. She cares more about makeup than she does about the fact that her eternal soul is going to hell now. She traded God for makeup. Isn't that stupid?" And then of course, as you all have seen played out in various families, "Sarah" is usually nolonger part of the group of friends and/or family, at least not a regular part. Contact is either completely cut off and put at a minimum.

That's just been my personal experiences though.

JD has been on his own for a while now. IMO, he just doesn't care about social media. I'm sure he has a computer or at least access to one and knows what's going on. Too bad Jinger doesn't move into his house, learn a skill then high tail it to NYC.

Planet of the Apes???  :D

If what happens to many other "child actors" happens to the Duggars--we might see a couple of them pop up in the news because they are on probation or they were involved in some BS or maybe they are checked into rehab. Sadly, it is the way things go.

Perhaps Josh can start a new career in porn production?? :ew: :ew:

The Duggar kids haven't actually lived ATI lives though. It started out that way, but Boob and his bride had too many kids to manage. And as you point out, those kids grew up on a reality show.

Are they more sheltered than my kids? I'm sure. Are they uber sheltered fundies? Not by a long shot.

Probably pass it on to one of the older kids. Maybe Josh. It already has the locked dorm rooms set up for him. If none of the adult kids has enough children individually, then maybe it will become a two- or three-family home.

If they ever have to sell it, I can imagine it would make an excellent group home or assisted living facility. Doesn't it have an industrial kitchen?

There is such a thing as scandal fatigue. People stop caring.

It seems some people think "getting out" is an all or nothing kind of deal. They are not the Amish or JWs. I would think that shunning is going overboard.

People do not need to cut off all ties to their family to stop being a fundie and they do not have to stop being a Christian, either. As adults, they can start attending some other church---or simply stop going to church. They can widen their circle of friends to include non-fundies. They can stop wearing the frumpers.

But on Christmas, JBs birthday, family events they might still show up and act like everything is normal.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I do not recall the Duggars ever saying that they would disown a child.
