VF product snarking thread

Going through the VF catalog, I keep finding 'gems' of wtf-ness, such as this one:

http://www.visionforum.com/browse/product/seven-bible-truths-violated-by-christian-dating/?search=purity&sortby=0 which speaks of a father taking his daughter 'on her first date'. Ummm.... what? I also found a silver locket which in their description, always symbolized 'a very special relationship between two people'--and yet it's supposed to be a 'purity locket' from father to daughter. Ewww. I'm not the only one who noticed that weirdness either--just check the reviews.

[edited to add] ....Aaaaaand there's no corresponding purity ring for sons.

Ergh, yeah, sounds like a D/s relationship right there in the title.

http://www.visionforum.com/browse/product/beading-answer-book/?search=david+and+karen+mains&sortby=0&page=2

I found this, however. Right up my alley. Beats crocheting.

I couldn't find the Kingdom books by David and Karen Mains. My parents got me those (Tales of the Kingdom, Tales of the Resistance, Tales of the Restoration) and I loved and still love them. I thought they were put out by VF but couldn't find them on the site.

There is SOOOOOOO much D/s subtext to everything they do.

I mean, Peter knew that Kelly was the one when she rolled under the fence. Think about it: She was willing to humiliate herself in front of a potential suitor, and that got all of Peter's juices flowing.

My niece, who is Jewish(a real one, not a Lina one) did a beaded project of Salome carrying John the Baptist's head on a platter. She used 10,000 beads and it took a year to finish.

Has anyone seen the description for the biography of Calvin? He might be important for the history of the Reform (though wouldn't *cough cough*) Luther be more important?) but the most important man of the millennium, really? Making a "trail of liberty"? Calvinist Geneva has been compared to modern Iran and Stalinist Russia, two societies known for how free they were.

Yeah, but most baptist-brand churches can be traced back to the reformed churches (Calvinists) and not the Lutherans, so it's no miracle they hype up Calvin so much, despicable character nontheless, but Luther wasn't so saintly in some areas either.

Sorry if I doubt the theory that baptists form the one true church that went into hiding when the "whore of babylon" came to power and have no historical beginning but in Christ... :?

Ewwww! I looked at the site and saw the "Beautiful Girlhood" collection. I think these V.F. girls are what we call "loved but controlled". They are kept immature, ignorant, and controlled so that they do not think as individuals. They are like perpetual toddlers. Squick!

Oh yes, one topic a father needs to instruct his son on is "Flirtatious Girls, Moral Purity, and Courtship". Those pesky flirtatious girls, they'll be the downfall of many a man unless you're trained by Daddy on how to deal with them. :o

Oh noes, those ebil flirtatious girls.

Ok ok, I understand theoreticaly how 'flirtatious' girls might be a problem--IF the boy ever encountered them. They're actually not very common. And honestly, this kind of thinking 'how to prepare yourself against those ebil wimminz' seems to promote misogyny and thinking of women as the enemy. Not intentionally probably, but still.

Actually, they just WISH a few pesky, flirtatious girls would cross their paths, instead of laughing themselves into side stitches and running in the other direction, like they do now.

I have to admit that when we got one of the VF catalogs in the mail, my husband and I kept it simply because it was so funny, we couldn't toss it. It's shelved with all the Dilbert, Far Side, etc.. books at my house.

I'm on a doll collector board, and they all thought the VF dolls looked incredibly cheap. This was before Fidelia is made by Gotz though. People still do not want to support the company though. They read the VF stuff and shuddered.

      Stupid loneliness!
Kid 1 went back to college (yeah! But sad foe me, she stayed with me all summer. It was nice to start a new phase in our mother/daughter relationship)
Zero prospects on dates. (Not that I have tried online dating, scared of that but I have reached put to a new group at church, etc.
I asked a friend to go to dinner the other night so I wasn't eating alone, again. The friend had plans, all my friends always have plans. I see stuff on social media, I'm never invited. I'm single, I'm the 3rd or 5th wheel.
My one parent friend at kid 2's fall sport won't be there because their daughter made varsity (Yeah for her!!! Seriously happy for her. Sad for me for another sport I basically sit alone, did that majority of spring and summer sporting events.)
And now I'm crying as my mom told me 2 different funny stores that former teachers remembered about my twin. Both stories were about how they got a crack out of my twin's antics (my parents went to a funeral today and saw former colleagues). Teachers remember me (after all I was a twin and teachers' kid) but none would have memorable stories of me.
      I feel invisible.
Don't worry, this will pass,  it always does. I just need a pity party for a few days. I'm not in anyway going to harm myself. As lonely as I am, I have a very full life I (usually) love. I just needed to vent and cry for a moment.
If you are still reading this, thanks Fjer. 😊

Absolutely awful about the fires on Maui. In 2019, I stayed in Lahaina. I liked to sit on the sea wall, which is the only structure left now, and watch the water. People are receiving help, but many had to leave pets. Please donate to the Maui Humane Society, which is leading efforts to find, treat, and reunite pets.

Nebraska’s new football coach, who is involved in an organization called Man Up Ministries, labels certain players “Alphas” and sometimes “extreme Alphas” and the local paper has a nice piece on why people objecting to the term “alpha male” are wrong and it has a “nice ring”. 🤮🤮🤮🤮
