Autumn Is Starting College Next Semester!

So Autumn's parents are not the "no college" fundies, but they were into courtship? I feel like I need a Fundie Family Flowchart sometimes.

I think that Autumn and her family have reversed positions on many things and have moved out of the extreme fundie-ism into a more mainstream, albeit conservative, Christianity.

I have every hope for her.

Good to know. I am glad to hear she is getting an education.

(thanks for the post level compliment. It's true, and the best money I will ever spend in my life. I would have paid millions for my girl!)

I don't know about her parents, but Autumn was definitely among the no college crowd back before her world view was smashed to pieces. She wrote several blog posts about it being unnecessary and outside the roles of women. But, she obviously changed that and I'm really happy for her that she has. She mentioned in this post that she is kind of embarrassed about her past views.

That's called learning and growing from experience. Something die hard fundies don't do and won't allow to happen. I wouldn't wish what she went through on anyone but I think, in the end, she and her family learned a lot and opened themselves up to much happier lives.

What kind of college is it? I hope it's a good one and not some fundie diploma mill. I also hope she majors in something that will help her get a job if her Prince Charming thing doesn't work out, and she's not just going to kill time or get her MRS degree.

She didn't say--she just said that she'd probably start at a local school. Maybe the community college?

I am hoping that five years from now, her life will be so different from what it was that her disastrous marriage will seem to her as if it happened to someone else.

She not only has changed her views but openly acknowledges doing so:

"Several years ago, I wrote a post about how I felt about women going to college. Well...that post makes me laugh. It was a very preachy post. And my opinions have changed. Very much so. I don't believe that college is for every person- boys OR girls. Everyone has a different situation. I have no problem when people decide to go to college or decide to stay home. It's a personal decision."

Good for her & I hope that all goes well with her endeavors.

What is she going to study? I'm super excited over this. I know I wrote some comments at her blog a half year ago that I thought she seemed to be a kind and smart girl, and that such people like her should become teachers or social workers because they have a deeper understanding for people and therefore are very much needed out in the society. A lot of blah-blah from my side... but I'm like that.

Wow, it is really impressive that she admits to changing her mind instead of destroying the evidence. I don't keep a public blog, so I often claim I've always been right all along because I know my opinions are mostly untraceable over time. : ) Seriously, it's a very honest and mature thing to do.

      Stupid loneliness!
Kid 1 went back to college (yeah! But sad foe me, she stayed with me all summer. It was nice to start a new phase in our mother/daughter relationship)
Zero prospects on dates. (Not that I have tried online dating, scared of that but I have reached put to a new group at church, etc.
I asked a friend to go to dinner the other night so I wasn't eating alone, again. The friend had plans, all my friends always have plans. I see stuff on social media, I'm never invited. I'm single, I'm the 3rd or 5th wheel.
My one parent friend at kid 2's fall sport won't be there because their daughter made varsity (Yeah for her!!! Seriously happy for her. Sad for me for another sport I basically sit alone, did that majority of spring and summer sporting events.)
And now I'm crying as my mom told me 2 different funny stores that former teachers remembered about my twin. Both stories were about how they got a crack out of my twin's antics (my parents went to a funeral today and saw former colleagues). Teachers remember me (after all I was a twin and teachers' kid) but none would have memorable stories of me.
      I feel invisible.
Don't worry, this will pass,  it always does. I just need a pity party for a few days. I'm not in anyway going to harm myself. As lonely as I am, I have a very full life I (usually) love. I just needed to vent and cry for a moment.
If you are still reading this, thanks Fjer. 😊

Absolutely awful about the fires on Maui. In 2019, I stayed in Lahaina. I liked to sit on the sea wall, which is the only structure left now, and watch the water. People are receiving help, but many had to leave pets. Please donate to the Maui Humane Society, which is leading efforts to find, treat, and reunite pets.

Nebraska’s new football coach, who is involved in an organization called Man Up Ministries, labels certain players “Alphas” and sometimes “extreme Alphas” and the local paper has a nice piece on why people objecting to the term “alpha male” are wrong and it has a “nice ring”. 🤮🤮🤮🤮
