I work for a PR savvy company too. I doubt they will fire him. If they did anything they would just say no more show.

We've seen precious little of the Bates family show. It's either not shown on any channel we have, or it's shown at some wee hour on a xian channel we don't watch. We've seen the odd special here or there, or when they've appeared on the Duggars' show. Gil has very mean, very cold, very angry eyes. My daughter actually picked up on that first and remarked that his smile doesn't go anywhere near his eyes and looking closely at his eyes, she said she feels like there is huge suppressed rage there. He seems like he is tightly contained and when he blows, he blows big.

My employer said if we name them as our employer on facebook that we need to have a squeaky clean f/b. So I don't have an employer on f/b. I want to post about having a few beers, ticked off at horrible bosses, etc.

I doubt the Bates show will stop airing. They're on Up TV which is "family friendly" or code for 'conservative propaganda' ... I remember when I was a kid every time I heard something was 'family friendly' it would be some horrible Focus on the Family type thing.

UP can say they're family friendly, but they still show Sophie & Shannon... you know, Gene Simmons' daughter and ex-porn actress wife. It's all about money. In a few years, it'll be the new TLC.

I hope Walmart doesn't fire Derrick. Now the TLC gravy train looks as though it is coming to a stop he will need a job. He and Jill can't rely on that money any more.

I'm glad Gawker is digging in and making the IBLP connections clear on the Bates family too. Their rotten beliefs also need to be exposed.

Also, this was mentioned earlier in the thread, Dr. Paine is on the BoD of IBLP, but his "prison ministry" is that he is employed as a prison physician. He works for the Correctional Corporation of America. So he proselytizes sick or injured inmates in the course of his job, which strikes me as cruel and unusual punishment. At least in Pa Keller's prison ministry participation is voluntary. I suspect most of Pa Keller's converts are only at his meetings because they are bored, because converting looks good for their parole hearings, or both.

That is what I am saying. Unless he is an executive with a contract where he has things like stock grants, bonuses, house purchase, moving costs, non compete clause, etc spelled out it is unlikely he has any contract at all. So unless he violates some morals clause in the employee handbook Walmart Home Office will not care what he does while off their time.

And as his name isn't on the walmart list of executives, vps or directors it is safe to say he isnt high level enough fornthem to care.

Now if he were capitalizing on Wal-Mart via TLC they might have a problem.

Walmart has a brand to protect. I will asked my mom later if needed to get permission and if this sort of bad publicity can get him fired. Based on things she dealt with in the past, I would say yes.

Does anyone think we should start looking at the companies that advertise during the Bates' show? Should we start sending them letters to inform them the Bates hold the same twisted ideals as the Duggars? Would it even matter, considering some of the advertisers that network pulls in are likely to be rather conservative in nature?

I was trying to figure out a way to find the companies that advertise during Bringing Up Bates. I already sent UP a message, but I doubt they will care because as long as people will watch the Bates and companies will advertise they will keep the show on. What is the magazine that always features the Bates?

I'm pretty sure it's OK Magazine. They aren't high profile enough for People and US Magazine just doesn't seem to care. :lol:

ETA: Maybe we should start trying to contact TMZ or someone to let them know about the connection. The Bates may not be considered high profile enough for them to take seriously though. :roll:

Honestly, the Batesesessses situation is s a mile different from preaching sexual purity and hating on others - they do share the Gothard beliefs but that isn't in and of itself the kind of thing to get them taken off the air. I just don't think the connection is strong enough for a realistic campaign to work

I don't think that this will impact the Bateseseses too much, especially since they are better at managing their image than the Duggars ever have been. It would be nice if more people would see that Gil is on a BoD that helped protect Bill Gothard and that they believe crazy stuff, but I feel like they are plotting how to best use this situation to gain more money and fame and that they will probably be successful.
