I live in Southern Illinois and the Duggar way of speaking sounds pretty normal to me. I actually have a son named Benjamin that we call Ben and I can not for the life of me pronounce it any differently than "Bin". I say Caramel like Care uh mel but my husband and kids say Car mel. I can't say any difference in pen or pin though get and git are definitely different from each other. Also Mary, marry, and merry all sound the same to me. People in more Northern Illinois think we sound Southern but I don't think we sound very Southern. We are very close to Kentucky though and I think that the people from there sound very Southern.
