If a petition would be started on change.org insisting that 19kac be taken off the air only to protect the youngest Duggars/Dillards/Seewalds from the voyeuristic nature of this show, would you sign it?

I would sign.

There already was a petition (which I signed) and it didn't work. It's a pipedream unfortunately.

I would not sign, because I firmly believe change.org and other petition sites are completely pointless. TLC will only take 19KAC off the air if the ratings tank or the house is unsafe for children à la Honey Boo Boo.

TLC listens to money, not viewers.

I would sign but highly doubt it would do anything. The only thing that's going to stop the Duggars at this point is a scandal......one the biggest leg humper can't even justify.

I think the voyeuristic nature of the show is the least of the youngest Duggars & Co problems.

The Bates were picked up by a lesser network, the Duggars would be too. TBH the ATI lifestyle is a bigger potential problem amongst people who are almost fundie lite which is the kind of people who would watch a channel like Up. Having them on a mainstream network and under the scrutiny of the press keeps them hiding the more extreme parts of their lifestyle (which could be both good and bad)

I'd sign.

The way to end the show is for people to stop watching. [done]

Also to petition those advertising during the show.

While I despise the Duggars and everything they stand for (I guess you can say that I am a "hate watcher"), I don't think that I could call for the show to be cancelled because I think it would destroy the lives of the younger kids. While the camera crews are invasive, the production company is so beholden to JB that they would never show anything that would cause any long-lasting damage to the lives of the kids. It's hard to say reality TV destroyed your life when *nothing* even remotely bad is shown.

Plus, the fact that the cameras are around ensures that the younger kids aren't being completely ignored or abused through neglect. JB and Michelle do not have the time or energy to deal with the young ones now, do you think it would be better if they were still living on a shoestring budget? If it was not for TLC, the younger ones would be wearing Jana's hand-me-down frumpers, eating buttered rice two meals a day, and sleeping three to a bed. As much as I despise the parents, I would not wish that on the kids.

Finally, if not for the TLC money... do you even think Josie would be alive? Did they even have health insurance before the show? There is no way that they would have gotten such gold-plated care but for TLC. Sad truth is that, if you do not have insurance, you get inferior medical care in this country. There is no way Josie would have received anything like that care, but for the TLC money. Also, the fact the cameras were running meant they *had* to ensure she got the best care available and that the hospital tripped over itself to give them priority treatment. There was no way they could opt for second-class care and claim it was "God's will" when she died.

Not going to happen. Look at that certain mom of multiples in PA who is STILL on the air - albeit not as often - on TLC. (warning they have a mother's day thing coming up for them).

I wouldn't sign. It wouldn't do any good regardless--money talks, and ratings=money. No one cares what the ratio of fan:Hate watchers are, as long as they're watching, TLC is happy. And even if there were a chance that such a petition would do any good, I still wouldn't sign. I think fundies are abusive parents by default, I think being raised in reality tv is inherently damaging, but until there's actual, concrete proof of individuals being harmed, I'm really not ok with trying to get anyone off the air. I'll cheer the day the rating drop so much--that public interest in these uneducated dimwits dies--that TLC cancels the show, but I'm not going to support a petition that attempts to make it happen just because I find the family personally distasteful.

As someone who (hate)watches the show, I would feel hypocritical signing such a petition. And I agree that, overall, the TLC money and presence in the home may actually have benefitted the Duggarlings. I might even be more concerned for them should the show be cancelled. But I do wish that all those leghumpers out there could see the family for what they really are. So, I would rather the show stayed on the air but that they would shine a brighter light on the real story.

I don't know...

I think I'd rather ask TLC to make a documentary instead of a scripted-sugarcoated-fake-reality show.

Really interview the girls and show what they are going through.

Ask serious questions and encourage honest answers.

Ask Josh if he ever feels daunted by the prospect of having 4 kids and a wife at his young age.

Ask Jana if she ever feels robbed of her youth.

Ask Josiah if he feels pressured into courtship.

Ask Jessa if she ever questioned her parents' lifestyle.

Dig deep. Bring out the real stuff. Bring the nasty stuff on the surface.

This is a petition I'd sign.

Honestly? I think cancelling the show would be worse for the younger ones than allowing it to continue.

Without the show, this family doesn't have the income it needs. And on top of that? The cameras keep the abusive nature of the fundies at bay - at least to an extent.

The mistake people are making with petitions is addressing them to TLC. TLC is making major profits of the Duggars and minus a MASSIVE scandal will keep them on. The only thing that would potentially work is a really effective (and well worded) boycott campaign against advertisers who buy air time during the programming. When advertisers start to pull, then the network reacts. A Change.org petition aimed at TLC directly won't so anything, as proved several times over.

No.

If the shoe was on the other foot and, say, the Duggars were pushing a petition to get the new Cosmos cancelled because of all the EVILution, I'd think they were a bunch of whiny busybodies. So, I wouldn't want to be part of basically the same thing, no matter how damaging I think the show is overall to the public and the kids.

I would love to watch that show. But I don't think any of the Duggars would participate in it.

So, without the above as a viable option, yes, I wish they would cancel 19KAC. Even though the Duggars themselves might see a reduction in their lifestyle, I think it would be far better for the rest of the world if they didn't have a platform that glamorizes and promotes that lifestyle. I'd rather the Duggars suffer than deceive a bunch of other families into joining their ranks. I also think their celebrity gives them dangerous political clout, so I'd like to see their star fade as soon as possible.

Plus, I think the Duggar kids might feel less pressure to fall in line if their every move wasn't available for public consumption. And without the TLC money and perks, they might have less reason to want to stick around the compound into their twenties. They might be somewhat forced into seeking out educational and job opportunities, which, IMHO, would be a good thing.

I've signed a petition in the past to cancel this show. Doesn't work. TLC, which, a long time ago was a great "LEARNING" channel--it more of the "Tabloid Likened Channel" these days, will NEVER cancel this show. Too many moronic people love the show. It's appalling. People magazine seems to cover every move they make. I haven't read or glanced through "People" in almost a year. I refuse to read any publication that writes about them. I'll put my money into my own pocket. (I stopped my subscription to Vogue after Kim and Kanye were on the cover. I am true to myself).

The best thing that could happen to this self-righteous family would be to lose their show--THEN they just may start being Christian.

If TLC cancelled them b/c of a petition, they'd be martyrs. I'd rather watch them bring about their own demise, more entertaining that way too.
