I also wonder about the ratings for Jill and Jessa's wedding episodes vs the ratings for Josh's wedding episode. I think Jill/Derrick and Jessa/Ben seem to be getting more attention than Josh and Anna. I bet Anna is jealous about the new focuses on her sister-in-laws and their husbands.

It's a fair comparison for Jill vs Jessa wedding but not vs Josh bc when he got married the Duggars weren't as big overall. The wedding nowhere near had the hype. TLC planned entire seasons around the girl weddings.

Josh was the first son and kid to marry and had the first grand Duggar., now the excitement wore off. and let's face it. They are really not interesting anymore.Jill is the first daughter to marry and the first grandkid from a female. What is left? I dont see as much hype for Jessa on down, It's already been done.

I believe that Josh & Anna's relationship was thrown into the public show. I don't believe we were introduced to Anna, like the other couples. So, we went from courtship (staged, because they were already courting), engaged to the wedding of J&A. I believe Jana will garner as much or more viewings; if the get-to-know-phase works out, but another male courtship will be interesting than Josh. We will get a chance to know whether Josiah can pull off an interesting engagement.

I think at some point, they'll just go back to doing specials when another Duggar gets married, then it will be something about the courtship and the wedding plans. The show has been duller than watching paint dry for some time, and while Josiah's courtship might seem interesting, it's nothing really new as it's already been done.

I hope the show gets cancelled. It used to have good ratings when they wre actually doing smth interesting besides courting, getting married and talking about Jesus. I mean they went on trips and safaris and did charity work and whatnot. Now they just sit around and talk about babies. I hope the show gets kicked in the curb

Looks like Monday's show only had the first hour ranked.

19 KAC: DECADE OF DUGGAR TLC 8:00 PM 1066 0.3

So, a little over a million viewers. Hours 9 and 10 didnt make the list so they were likely lower.

I wonder what the ratings were for Jill and Jessa's weddings compared to the regular show ratings. I also wonder what type of viewers will checkin for the upcoming 2hr special showing Jill suffering through childbirth.

I've been fascinated/appalled by the Duggars since the beginning and don't think I've ever missed an episode--watching many of them twice. I have however hardly been tuning in this season and STILL can't finish Jessa's wedding episode. It's just so damn dull!! I absolutely can't stand JB & M, Jill, Josh, or Ben especially. The only way the ratings on this show will go back up above 2 million will be an unexpected death (I wouldn't wish this on them but it happens) or Jana's courtship and wedding. I read through the summaries of the birth episodes and have absolutely no desire to ever watch them. 5 hours of birth and babies??! Gah! I legit told my husband this morning that I'm okay with us canceling cable in the next few weeks. I have no need for TLC anymore. All of your recaps here on FJ are a gazillions times more entertaining and it's practically free.

I agree, I think a Jana courtship is going to be needed to save the ratings for the show and not to a guy like Ben or even Derick. I think a ratings boost for the show would be for Jana to enter into a courtship with a very successful, very mature and charismatic gentleman who maybe has a sense of adventure and looks for ways to liven up their courtship and make it special and exciting for Jana. But aside from that I see that a big ratings drop is on the horizon because this slump of baby after baby and boring wedding, after boring wedding is just not making it happen for most people. We need some excitement, we need to see a couple who makes us want to fall in love with love. The only other thing I think could save them in the ratings is for JD to enter into a courtship with a girl who maybe had a "past" and is now reforming and they show on the show how JD and his family are accepting of her despite what she was in the past and how they are helping her find peace within herself... But... that'll NEVER happen!

The show is still one of the top shows on TLC. The reruns do really well too. Unless the show goes under 1 million viewers for an entire season, I don't see the show being cancelled, maybe a longer breaks between seasons. I also don't think Jim Bob asks for big bucks or first class extras (like Kate G) and would be willing to take less an episode to keep the show on. TLC doesn't want to give up the rights to weddings, babies, deaths, or any big future event.

A few years ago when the ratings dipped Jill said, TLC is only filming when major stuff happens and we call and tell them. I think TLC will have years of if not seasons but specials on the Duggars. I bet it takes TLC going out of business before we stop seeing Duggars. If we are seeing gender announcement 4 for Anna, I bet we see every wedding of every kid. By the Time we get to the younger girls, Mac will be getting married, so we will see a Grand Duggar wedding. It will not stop.

That not true. Jill and Jessa's courtships/weddings boosted the show's ratings.

Beyond Jana, do you think people are going to be anxiously waiting to hear that Jed, Jer and Jason are courting and soon to be married? Or that Jill is PG with her 6th kid in 7 years? Seriously? If so, I totally disagree.

Heck, I haven't even seen Jessa's wedding and could not care less about the baby she and her teenage husband procreated.

Old and stale-

I agree that they're hitting their saturation point with marriages and babies. Especially since they're basically all clones, with the exception of some minor personality differences. It's going to take an actual scandal to revive them to huge ratings numbers IMO. And I don't see them ever allowing the cameras to document anything negative about anyone's "characters." Unless they were hurting for money and could somehow spin it to show them as ministering.

I don't know  The Duggars have a huge fan base. They love weddings and babies. 4 million people watched Jessa's wedding

People just love weddings!

Weddings are awesome. That's why they busted ratings droughts.

TBH, I could see them staging minor "scandals" to keep things interesting - not too too catastrophic but enough so that other people think it's bad, too. Maybe a couple of the younger boys are caught with liquor or something. Of course, they are "rescued" before they can drink it...

I work in the cable TV biz. (Not for TLC or Discovery) I'm at an industry trade show this week and there's a huge banner for the Bates's show. Nothing for the Duggars...in fact, not a word about them. Discovery had a lot of scandals recently...the anaconda show made peta unhappy, honey boo boo drama, ect. I think to the average consumer they think the Duggars make their brand more wholesome in light of shows like sex sent me to the ER. But to the insiders/trade they lay low as it isn't as squeaky clean as it seems.

I think people always have an appetite for romance. So yes, people will always be interested in the courtships. Plus there are younger viewers who are "growing up" along with the younger kids and they will definitely be interested.

both weddings were somewhat frustrating no proper food, no drinks, no fun. Jessa`s ice cream wedding was ridiculous.

I think the Duggars need to make the show more diverse and do different stuff on it but they wont

The courtships and weddings are all the same. They all follow the same script. How many times can there be a wedding in the same church, same commentaries, same "first kiss" nonsense, followed 2 months later with a pregnancy announcement.

I think the Duggars politics is what will ultimately be their undoing. They will do or say something heinous enough for the masses to threaten sponsor boycotts.

I still feel like the show is confused on whether it wants to present the Duggars as "just like us" or fetishize their differences. I feel like they've never been fully committed to any viewpoint and have kind of switched around between different lenses of viewing the Duggars between seasons. I'm curious as to where they're trying to go at the moment. They try to make the Duggars seem normal while simultaneously showcasing their unusual courtship practises. I don't feel like this kind of imbalance is sustainable. I liked the show more when they didn't pretend that the Duggars were normal. I don't want the Duggars to be relatable. If I wanted to see normal people, I would go outside. Perhaps that's just me though.

I'm very curious to ask the fan, garden-variety viewer what they like about the show.

I agree lookinggoodforjesus, the show would be much better if the showed them doing something different, like Jana goes on a real mission trip. Jing moves to NY city. One of the kids decides to raffle off a date with a fan. Or one of them starts a career

In behind the scenes of TV or movies. Duggar divorce. Anything but this redundant crap.

exactly thats what Im talking about. I dont mind watching the courtships but I do wish there was more interesting stuff to be done you know. With Josh and Annas courtship they showed only a few moments, moved on to the wedding and then the Duggars were up to smth else - travelling to Japan, (sword fighting, eating bugs hehe), volunteering for kids in Guatemala and so on. Now the show got to be like an extremely boring soap opera. I hate it if they show another super romantic courtship with Josiah proposing in a typical cheesy Duggar way

I was so sickened by that scene. Honestly, it was foot porn--and not in a good way. I have a "thing" about menfeet. Ugh. It was too much for me. :disgust:
