There are not a lot of comments, but some of them are quite interesting. Her logical, well-reasoned writing drives some of her detractors absolutely crazy.

This guy seems to pop up a lot and, of course, has nothing but contempt for her.

So true! But here is the sticking point- few have an accurate Jesus in their hearts and minds. Jesus spoke about hell more then He did heaven. He washed the disciples feet once- not everyday. He called a woman a dog. Called men whitewashed tombs. Spoke about anger being equal to murder and yet tells us all that He will justly destroy the wicked and those who do not follow Him- and most don’t for the path is narrow.

Don’t forget Abraham and Sarah and our bible teaches us that wives are to respect their husbands and even call them lord. That gets under folks skin in these days, but teaching that a husband is to lay down his life for his wife does not for some reason.

There is a one size fits all solution- follow Christ. Problem is for many of us is Christ is not found in human wisdom or even reason. God’s ways are not man’s ways and his thoughts are not our thoughts. Things that seem backward to humans often are exactly what we are to be doing. Rather that is loving our wife and laying down our life when she often acts like the church and does not honor us. For it teaches us husbands to be more like Christ. And for wives, becoming patient, humble and suffering makes them more like Christ.

And we must all remember-many will not choose Christ or walk in HIs ways, even those who have proclaimed Him at one time or another and many more will wait till the last minute. Their is a reason wives are called to submit and that is because submission breaks through a man’s hardened heart where boundaries simply will not. And of course there are times- any time we have to choose sin or not to sin- that we must choose Christ. But I think the major disagreement many have is not understanding who Jesus is and who God is- we tend to remember the moments we want about Him and disregard the majority of them.

Did I get this right?

So Jesus, when he showed his human side, and got angry, calling people "whited sepulchers" wasn't understood to be merely human at that time... but Jesus.. so it's ok to get angry and yell at people because Jesus did it. So flipping over tables, tossing the moneychangers' stuff around... let's all just go into a bank and try it once. Because Jesus. Saints preserve us from idiots.

And while "whitewashed tomb" is comparable to "whited sepulcher"... the definition, and the continuation of Matthew 23:27 is, of course, much more explanatory than the "bible bite" we get from the fundies.

An evil person who pretends to be holy or good; a hypocrite.

Speaking just to the one where you called out the men commenting. You are assuming a lot, and doing so incorrectly. Of the men I know who commented all have good, if not great, marriages- including lots of sex. We simply have a different interpretation of both scripture and marriage- as do our wives who agree with us. That does not make us creepy anymore than it makes you creepy. What makes the situation creepy is we have christians- all of us- that we call each other names and insult one another. I understand your point of view even though I think it is flat wrong according to scripture and even dangerous- as you do ours. Now that, I’m not real sure what to do about it for we’ve tried praying, we at one point tried conversing- although you do no longer-, we’ve reexamined the scriptures, reexamine our hearts and we are stuck thinking you are leading thousands of women into sin & destroying marriage and you thinking we are doing the opposite. For as entrenched in sin as you believe we are- we think you just as much are also. What do we do? Do we continue disunity? Tearing each other apart? Both calling the other evil? For we truly believe your teaching is evil as you do ours. Yet we read the same bible, pray to the same Lord and each have good marriages. I’m at a loss and grieved. You aren’t willing to discuss things- for they are distractions and evil in your book- although just as many christians around the world call what you are doing evil. Where do we go? Lord have mercy on us all.

This guy just can't leave her alone. She really gets under his skin.

Just one more gem. Sorry, everybody; I've been reading for a few days but just now have time to post these highlights.

So you are okay if a wife is watching or reading programming that encourages a wife’s sin- say Oprah, or HGTV, Lifetime, and even your own website & books(I can find thousands & thousands- maybe millions- of christian men & women that would put their hand on a bible and say you are leading women away from biblical teaching) with him taking the kids and leaving? Or telling her she must sleep on the couch? I know you preach an egalitarian marriage but I can’t see you being okay with those things even if it makes the husband feel horrible and he can find scripture to support it & even churches that support it?

I especially like the typical fundie hyperbole. Wow! Sheila is so well known that MILLIONS of Christians consider her a sinner!

Team Sheila all the way!

I was just thinking the same thing. This person posted on Lori's latest blog entry this morning, and I thought--now, that's precisely the sort of username Robert might choose.

ETA: I'd bet my house that this is Cabinetman. This guy uses the word 'folks' in many of his comments. Cabinetman uses that word all the time.

I looked at one of Wilderness' comments and at first disagreed that it was Robert. It just seemed too... sharply written, or something, to be him. Even with the spelling and grammar issues I noticed, those are common enough among many people, it just didn't have that Robert-style feel to me.

But -- by the time I read the second of Wilderness' comments, I wasn't so sure. And as I read more, I now do think it's Robert.

In one of the posts he refers to himself in the plural, as if he's speaking for himself and his wife, and then he makes mention of them having "tried" to interact personally with Sheila but they just disagree too much, etc. Of course it's possible that there are multiple people who disagree with Sheila in this way, but that seemed like a clincher to me. I think it's him.

An early Birthday present for me! Thank You Robert. I missed your insanity. We knew you couldn't last long. How funny you get crazy about women commenting dissent on your blog and how it's for those that agree with you and you do this to Sheila.

The bolded is one thing that tipped me off. He blogged about Sheila and specifically said he'd tried SO HARD to make her see the light. It was the "thousands....NO MILLIONS!!" comment that really made me think of Robert. That and his comment about making a wife sleep on the couch. Plus, his insistence on pointing out the sinful nature of women.

It's so funny how he's trying to hide. He's like the court jester trying to blend in at the palace, but he forgot to take off his funny hat and shoes.

I didn't know that HGTV was such a den of iniquity.

Looking at all those master bedrooms and en suites in the home shows is defrauding, doncha know.

They feature gay and lesbian couples on House Hunters. And some of those couples even have children. Can't you see? HGTV is shoving the Gay Agenda down our throats through real estate! ELEVENTY!!!!

Also LGBT couples on Property Virgins, Property Bothers, Income Property and maybe even Love It or List It. There is also that new design competition with Ellen DeGeneres.

OOOOOOHH-uh! Now I get it. I too was wondering why HGTV was sinful. :angry-banghead:

Remember this comes from a guy who justifies viewing porn if a wife is a "refuser,"

Yeah I was getting a strong cupboard boy vibe.

Have I mentioned recently that I love Sheila? We disagree a bit on the whe Game of Thrones make him sleep on the couch thing, but she posted my comment unedited and reasonable people can have a discussion.

BTW do the Canadian HGTV shows supply most of the LGBT content?

BTW

How is one supposed to respond to this in a charitable way?

Good for her for publishing this and not responding. I think it takes strength and humility.
