Family stages kidnapping to "teach" son a lesson

Putting this in WWoS because (as far as I know) these idiots aren't fundy. DH asked me if I'd heard about the kidnapping, while he was reading the paper. I thought he was referring to the fundies in Washington state with the CPS dispute. Nope, he was talking about semi-local idiots instead. Troy, MO, specifically (near St Louis)

In short, Mom, Grandma, Aunt, and an unrelated co-worker conspired to kidnap Mom's 6-year-old boy, because he's "too nice to people" and they wanted to teach him about Stranger Danger. And they still, apparently, don't think they did anything wrong.

I was, no joke, somewhere between speechless and random swearing for about five minutes after I read the article in the paper. I wouldn't blame the boy if he never trusted his family, at least these three, again. That is some messed-up thinking there. (Also, the comments at the KSDK story are mostly of the WTF line, but a few who think it was mostly okay but a bit misguided. :wtf: )

Jesus krust looking at their mug shots they look like who you warn your kids to stay way from. I bet they are thinking they did wrong now.

How horrifying! That poor child. They pulled a gun on the kid, made him take off his pants, talked about being sold into sex slavery and kept this up for 4 hours?! INSANE. :angry-fire:

There are ways to teach stranger danger without traumatizing the child for life. :angry-fire: :angry-cussingblack: :angry-banghead:

I doubt thus incident taught the boy Stranger Danger but it did teach him not to trust his own family, which is actually more logical since most crime happens between people of the same race who know each other. I wonder what will happen to him, since it seems like most of his immediate family has been arrested.

for sure. I thought the church was bad for doing that fake kidnapping but this was 100 times worse. they are monsters that hopefully will never get their child back. I feel so sorry for the kid stuck in that household.

It didn't occur to me until later, but how many 6-year-olds are at all familiar with the idea of sex slavery, or even slavery at all? My kidlet is 8.5, they've touched on slavery a bit in social studies/history at school and we've discussed it a bit at home, but I'm pretty sure he doesn't know about sex slavery.

How the hell did 4 people think this was a good idea? Not one of them thought this might be going over a line at all? An unrelated co-worker thought it was totally fine to lure a kid into the truck, wave a gun, and threaten to kill the kid?

My kid is probably also what they would consider "too nice" - when he was younger, he invited a couple of the childrens' librarians (who have known him since he was in Baby Storytime, so not total random strangers) to come to our house (for dinner, I think), and even gave them semi-coherent directions on how to get there. :o We had a talk later about not telling everyone everything, but I never thought that kidnapping him was a solution to his friendliness. If we had pulled this kind of shit with him, he would have freaked out to the point where I don't think he'd get over it for a long time, and wouldn't trust us again ever (and rightfully so).

i can't believe they didn't instantly realize their stupidity. They were evil enough to ignore the little guy's fear.

I don't think they were evel they were just more stupid then a post in the middle of a road.

And what about the reality that the vast majority of crimes against children are committed by people they know and trust?

My sweet pup was diagnosed with a brain tumor in September. She passed away in my arms on Thanksgiving morning. It all happened so fast. She didn't want to eat anything the day before, but prior to that was ok. Knew it was near time and had booked an appointment to take her next week. However, she decided for me. She was only 8 and really was one of the best dogs. She never met a stranger, human or dog. Life isn't the same without her.

I made my first Granny Square! After nearly 30 years of knitting and crocheting this was a project I never did. Until now! I needed something to do with my rest of very colourful yarn and now I am very happy. I need to try different needles with my yarns but I think I found something nice for the future.
I needed only 3 different youtube videos until I found a person who explained the concept slowly and repetitive and with words I can understand. I hate when these tutorials make me feel dumb.

Someone please remind me to buy peanut butter. Seriously, I have been meaning to get some for at least three weeks, and everytime I remember, the shops are already closed!

You know what I hate most about subtle racism? The gaslighting. Stop cosplaying as a nice person and say it with your chest.

We had to put our 14 year old dachshund, Trinket, down today.  She was fine Thursday, but by mid-morning yesterday, it was apparent that something was really wrong,  She had zero energy, lost her appetite and began walking into corners.  By morning I knew it was time for her to have her final visit to the vet.  She had lost about a pound and a half recently.  RIP, Trinket!

Horrific! A 6 year old boy was murdered, and mother severly injured, in a hate crime in Chicago. Reports say they are both Palestinian Muslims and were specifically targeted because of that. Thankfully the man who did it is in custody
      This is pure evil
