Do fundies encourage Bible Study?

I fell down the PP and Zsu rabbit hole. (God help me!)

In the video tour of Whacko Baptist there is really just one big room with the crying room and PP's office.

Do they have "Sunday School?" Usually churches do some type of Bible Study before or after the sermon. Whacko Baptist doesn't have any room to do that. So the people are just suppose to listen to PP and leave?

The Duggar and Bates seem to just have church.

Do they discourage group Bible studies? There were pictures of Jill and Derrick doing Bible study but I'm wondering what would happen if they studied and found something they disagreed with the preachers about. Are they encouraged to do that or just find verses that back up what is in the sermon.

I hope this makes sense. It's Friday **smile** and my brain is mush and I think I may be getting sick. **frown**

I can't speak for the PP and Zsu, but the fundie-lite church I attended in my late teens/early 20s had Bible Study(along with prayer meeting)on Wednesday nights, and I believe there was a separate women's study one weekday morning.

My fundie church had bible Study clubs that ran once a week for everyone over 12. (As well as catechism classes for everyone between 12 and about 18.)

I just worked that I did at least an hour a day of organised Bible Study a day as a teenager, and that's not including the stuff I did with my family,or my personal study time,or the 3+hrs at church.

Think of all the homework that I could have done in that time....

yes, being 'in the Word daily' is encouraged. But the strange thing is that, after hearing so many sermons, reading the Bible becomes a reinforcing of the church's main beliefs. What's preached from the pulpit stands out most. The congregation is sort of brainwashed into the rhetoric.

I'm reading the Bible through this year (i have a 365 day one year Bible in KJV from back in those days)

after about 6 years of being away from church regularly. It's amazing to read it with different eyes. The Old Testament is awful. Jesus's teachings are liberal. Jesus was a liberal hippie.

It's just mind boggling that all the years before I could only see what i was told to see.

Yes, fundies are definitely pro-Bible study. Women are even allowed to lead them if everyone else is also female. (What an honor  )

Unfortunately, yes. It's how they indoctrinate and program their members. The more you read and search for interpretation to match the pastor's, the farther down the rabbithole you fall. :angry-banghead:

I hate these winds. They are absolutely HOWLING here in SoCal. Not sure I'll be able to sleep tonight because I'm so afraid we'll get sudden evacuation orders the way we did with the Woolsey fire in 2018. There's no way of knowing when and where a fire might crop up and once it does, there's no containing it in these winds. I'm praying for the safety of our brave firefighters. My heart is with everyone in the Pacific Palisades and in Eaton Canyon near Pasadena.

The world doesn't need more people. If people want to have children, that's fine, but there is no reason we have to keep having more people.

      Winter snack: crispy chickpeas
Preheat oven to 400 F. Drain and rinse a can of chickpeas, then toss in olive oil and whatever spices you like. I use fried chili crisp. Cook for 15 minutes, stir, another 15 minutes, stir, repeat until they're crispy and delicious. Good as a snack, on salads, etc.
I am sharing my super secret chili crisp source just because I love you guys:

Serious question: is there anything men hate more than a woman's strongly held opinion?

Happy New Year, all you amazing people! I just saw a (possibly joking) tradition online called Yule Boasting.

      My quick text version:
i will begin 2025 by distilling a barrel full of tequila from the agave plants in my yard, assisted by george clooney, who admires me greatly and will be sad and heartbroken when my plan moves ahead without further human assistance.
sky-clad, i will find my familiar, a malevolently clever curve-billed thrasher named Willie Wildman. together we will roam my neighborhood, putting together an animal army consisting of a coyote pack, a squadron of javelinas, and my local great horned owl pair, perseverance and ingenuity.
we will all consume mass quantities of tequila, paint our faces blue, and set out on yucca broomsticks to reach our nation's capitol.
we will swoop down on DC, screaming and howling, occupying first the capitol and then the white house, where we will become co-presidents and replace congress with the yacht-sinking orcas of the mediterranean. AND EVERYONE WILL FUCKING REJOICE.

It's crazy to think that it has already been 25 years since we were worried about what would happen when the calendars would switch over to Y2K.
