New post is up - a "guy work party:"

And Sarah is rockin' the biggest headband flower yet.

That is all.

Geeze, it is like she is not even trying anymore. She seems to be putting all the effort into this one blog post as one does to brushing their teeth.

Maybe she's sad or becoming depressed. IIRC, her mother's depression is inborn, if so Poor Sarah is at increased risk for developing it.

I thought she tried to be humorous. Hope nobody made the major mistake and reminded Stevus to order pizza.

A "guy work party" not to be confused with a "boy dance party"!

Maybe it's all the previous "Storm" and "Stormie" talk, or probably just my filthy mind but this totally reads like porn to me.

Come to a sheetrock party, boys. Oooohh, hot brother John accepted my invite. Squee! Yes, yes, show up at "varying intervals". No schedule needed here. *Heavy breathing.* And did the work ever commence! (Sweet) fellowship ensued. How sweet it was. The "pizza" arrived. And finally, the job was done. Until next time.....

I obviously need help. Hi Steve! :nenner:

This may be silly and petty of me, but why the heck do they STILL call it "Joseph's house" now that he's married? I know the answer is patriarchy, but it still pisses me right off.

I withdraw the hypothesis. She actually looks happy in that photo

I posted a comment at Tits2 asking, if it's "Joseph"'s house, exactly where does Elissa live? It never saw the light of day.

Am I alone in not being concerned about Sarah's flowered headbands? (Maybe it's because my extremely boho 57-year-old sister wears them.)

I thought for a moment this was a good parody of Poor Sarah's literary talents, but it's an actual quote.

Yes, she really is mailing it in these days. Is it too much to hope that she's realizing that their lives really are that boring and repetitive and just can't be bothered?

Perhaps the fan is a native German speaker, where a double negative is legitimately used for emphasis. In English grammar, the double-neg is at worst a faux pas and at best works out, ironically, to a positive.

So "not anywhere will one find not one bad word" (I'm paraphrasing, working from iphone) can be read as "one will find bad words everywhere."

Wait, really? That's incredible, seeing as how much the two languages share. Scary room for misinterpretation in the amateur speaker, to have your meaning flipped 100% around.

Yeah, her writing is definitely going down hill. I wonder what's up.

Maybe the fact that her writing skills are limited, her levels of experience in the real world fall beneath of a 3 year-old's, and she is fully aware of the fact that she has wasted her life and there is nothing in store for her, at all?

I'm lost. How did the pizza get there? Was it delivered? What kind was it? Did they eat the pizza? If doing the work isn't fellowship then how did they fellowship? I need details.

As to being critical of Sarah's writing, she needs to know that her writing needs work. The criticism can be wrapped up in a pretty bow but she needs to know. Granted, I do not believe she reads Amazon reviews or has heard anything negative about her writing, but she will never grow as a writer without constructive criticism. If she wants to grow her audience, and make more money for Steve, Sarah needs to take stock of her writing deficiencies and work on them.

Am I bad for wanting to download this on my kindle? I'd hate to put money in her father's pocket, but there is something about Sarah I want to support. Also, I've always loved the wholesome children's books. The Little House series and Anne of Green Gables series, which have some religious values but are inoffensive to me, and actually quite sweet. I'm atheist, will the Moody books be nauseating about Christian values? I don't mind some religion, but I don't want to be beat over the head with it.

There is *a lot* of religion in the Moody books, but it's imbued with Maxwellian weirdness that sets it apart from, say, a Victorian-era novel or an A Beka homeschooling reader. If you have ever taken an art class or art appreciation class, think in terms of "negative space" as well as "positive space" when you read these books. In other words, consider what is *missing* from the lives of the Moody children in addition to the oddness that is present in their lives.

If you still want to read the Moody books but don't want your $$ going to Steve Maxwell, you can take a word of advice from Jim Bob Duggar and "buy used and save the difference."

Ok, I'm bad. I downloaded it. :embarrassed: But here's my story and I'm sticking with it. I was awake since midnight and it was nearly 6:00 am when I bought it. I was sleep deprived and not thinking straight. Happily, 10 minutes in I was asleep. Also, I do feel bad for Sarah and wanted to do something for her, even if it went into that man's pocket. Will I be banned from freejinger? Is there anything I can do to atone?

To answer some above questions, unfortunately, I do not have Kindle Prime. I did read one of Sarah's blogs. The one about Uriah. I was on the edge of my seat and cried at the tragic ending.

I do appreciate the analogy to negative and positive space in artwork. That explains this book well. It could have been so much more. It felt like it was a cross between Little Golden Books and early chapter books. I found myself wanting to know more about the characters such as interests and thoughts of the children. There could have been more conflict, like someone mentioned earlier. The children bickered a tiny bit, mom made them apologize and all was well. That is not how it is in real life. It is supposed to a teaching book, I believe. That can be a great way to teach how to manage conflict effectively but gracefully.

However it was a sweet book. I liked how the parents taught the children about responsibility by helping them manage little summer job, such as pet sitting. The family was helping everyone in the community and swooped in to save the day, which made them saint like to me and the bible verses were endless. But the book was written for evangelical children so that makes sense.

I wonder if Sarah ever read Heidi. That was quite a Godly book and a good read although with how strict her dad is, perhaps Heidi is too worldly. I remember enjoying little mystery stories like The Bobbsey Twins as a child. Perhaps she can do a Christian version. But worse, why do I care?

Anyway, hi Steve  . If you are reading here, perhaps you can take some suggestions from this thread back to your daughter. It seems as if many freejinger people like Sarah (sorry guys if I'm wrong). I would like her to be able to develop skills as a writer, if that is what she wants.

Please forgive me freejinger. Maybe take into account I am a Newbie, sort of.

No you won't be banned, BUT..................................if you really want to atone you can do a chapter-by-chapter analysis of the book.

I was on cold medicine and flipping through the Maxwell offerings on Kindle Prime. Since it's a new month, a new book from the Lending Library awaited. I jumped right in and picked Sweet Journey. I tried to get through the 1st chapter but I was really muddled. I'll try it again when I'm not under the influence.

Please do analyze it for us! And try to provide interesting...who am I kidding, it's a Moody book! I mean no disrespect to Sarah, because she's a sweet person, and Steve is making her write, but c'mon Steve. She has other talents, and needs room to explore.

I do my own writing, and even at age eight, my writing was less stilted and had more action. (I wrote a very long story about traveling in a spaceship with my teachers and being thrown in jail by aliens on a planet we'd crashed into by mistake).

And when I was 14/15, I started my novel. Yes, okay, it's YA, so you can snark and say it's not "literary," but I had friends who couldn't put it down! I'm still working on it to this day, and have the ending and plot all sketched out. It would make Steve faint, btw. Moral gray areas, complex characters with good and bad in them, plus mentions of homosexuality and a same-gender relationship, mental illness, and the danger of extreme ideology. Plus guns, car chases, and death. If anyone needs a palate cleanser after reading or hearing about the Moody books, let me know.

Perhaps I should take the ban. Who am I kidding, I can't do that. Perhaps a chapter by chapter of Les Miserables from original French and I don't speak French.

Would people actually be interested? I've read a few here. I think how it goes is to start a new thread and review a few chapters and allow for comments/snark and in a day or two review a few more chapters and so on. Is this correct?

I just do not have it in me to snark much. It would be like kicking a puppy. A tied up, sweet little sad eyed puppy that doesn't have enough to eat but made to exercise early every morning and then follow a strict schedule every day. Sorry, I wandered off there.

Anyway. I was thinking of reviewing the chapters straight and then ask FJ's come up with ways to liven up the chapters. Thoughts?

To whomsoever who's a sucker for well written literature for children, I highly recommend Swedish juvenile literature. Of all times. Love 'em.
