This was a response from a blog reader. Sarah posted a letter from a reader praising the Moody Books. I highlighted the parts that seem awfully

Perhaps the fan is a native German speaker, where a double negative is legitimately used for emphasis. In English grammar, the double-neg is at worst a faux pas and at best works out, ironically, to a positive.

So "not anywhere will one find not one bad word" (I'm paraphrasing, working from iphone) can be read as "one will find bad words everywhere."

I think these "fan" letters are what keep Poor Sarah going. They are "proof" she is following God's plan for her.

And they are free advertisements for Steve.

What a blessing that you are blessed with the gift of writing, which allows others to witness good wholesome Chrstain books.

My son just adores the Moody books and his favorite book is ‘ Exciting Times With the Moody’s ‘ Especially the part when Mr Delome's sausage explodes on the grill. The same thing happened to his Uncle.

I had a classmate at academy (high school) named Stormy.

When asked about her unusual name, she said she's sure her dad named her after a porn star.

Mind you this was a conservative Christian school, so this sort of thin was incredibly scandalous, though at least the people I associated with didn't treat Stormy differently for t. Others might have but they weren't worth my time, so I didn't know about them.

I did try so hard to understand to understand that sentence by Johanna and Stormie, but it gave me a headache. But as someone mentioned upthread, it could be someone where English is not a first language and that person would be far ahead of me in language skills.

I was also wondering the post about the sausage prior to edit(I'm imagining a plump, manly sausage). Anyone know?

Either way, I do feel sorry for Sarah(even though she can say things that drives me nuts). I think she deserves positive feedback. It seems as if she has nothing else.

I know of two people with the name Storm or Stormie. Storm Fields from one of the NYC news station,where he did the weather and he was an idiot. The other was Stormie Clearweather, from the sitcom, Reba. Even though Stormie(aka Barbra Jean) had her issues, she was my favorite character.

She's written some books that I highly recommend; believe me, she's WAY more than just a "helpmeet".

I just saw a quote from her, and I'd say it's just for Steve:

We don’t want to limit what God can do in our children by clutching them to ourselves and trying to parent them without Him.

If we’re not positive that God is in control of our children’s lives, we’ll be ruled by fear. And the only way to be sure that God is in control is to surrender our hold and allow Him full access to their lives!

Of course we can't hold her up as an idol, but if the Maxwells can't even read her books, there's something seriously wrong here. Please, if you feel her books aren't good enough for you, can you please tell us why?

Well Stormie's books are not good enough for Steve because she is a woman who doesn't agree with him.

Even as a Christian I rolled my eyes at Stormie. I remember reading a interview with her about how she had appendix problems and she was convinced God spoke to her and told her that her appendix had exploded because it was a failed curse that someone had put on her. And then God came to her husband in the middle of the night and told him the same thing. I'm not a fan of her wife praying book because it is very patriarchal.

I don't want FJ to embarrass Sarah on Amazon with bad reviews. She's doing the best that she can, and as someone upthread noted, she doesn't have much going for her in her life.

Perhaps reviewers could say something positive, then point out something that needs some work, and suggest that taking a writing course at the local community college could improve her writing so that she could expand her audience.

Sarah is Steve's creation, not an independent human being.

I agree, leave Sarah and her books alone. Or, if you must say something, use constructive criticism.

However, I'd say Stevie's "Keeping Your Children's Hearts" is fair game. There are a lot of twisted ideas in that book.

Am I bad for wanting to download this on my kindle? I'd hate to put money in her father's pocket, but there is something about Sarah I want to support. Also, I've always loved the wholesome children's books. The Little House series and Anne of Green Gables series, which have some religious values but are inoffensive to me, and actually quite sweet. I'm atheist, will the Moody books be nauseating about Christian values? I don't mind some religion, but I don't want to be beat over the head with it.

If you've read the Maxwell blog, you don't need to read the Moody books because Sarah takes the advice to "write what you know" VERY literally. Everything that happens to the Moodys has already happened to the Maxwells and it's so thinly disguised that it's easy to get confused. Are you reading the blog or the book?

There's absolutely no hint of conflict in the books, no "bad" behavior (bad to the Maxwells could mean going a minute over the schedule), even if there's a lesson to be learned. No ups, no downs, just a big ball of blah. And everything refers back to scripture. Combine all this with the fact that Sarah is a very poor writer and, unless you want to read the books for the snark value, you're better of saving both your time and your money.

Laura and Anne are far both too independent for the likes of Steve Maxwell. Both wimmin' were teachers (and *gasp* Anne was supported by the Cuthberts to pursue a college education!) Those characters - and many of the supporting female characters - are no shrinking violets.

I'm an unapologetic atheist and a huge Anne fan. I've never got around to reading the Little House books, but it's something I do plan on doing at some point in my life!
