Duggar Addiction?

I freely admit to being absolutely fascinated/repelled by the whole Quiverfull movement (& large families in general). I'll also admit to watching almost every Duggar episode that's been produced, sometimes multiple times.

Has anyone ever had the need for a Duggar "fix" (ie, when bored & watching tv: there's nothing on right now; it'd be a good time for a Duggar show)? When I feel the overwhelming need (for lack of a better term) for a fix, I'll watch a video on YouTube & be ok for a while; I'll sometimes do this when cooking or doing some sort of housework.

Is this a sign of a Duggar addiction, or do I need a new hobby? Or get out more?

lol I think I'm addicted. I try to justify myself for watching this show because I want to see one of these kids escape, but I'm really appalled by them and the Quiverfull/Gothard movement in general.

People like them contribute to my distaste for organized religion now. I still believe in God, Jesus, etc, but I'm afraid of being associated with some of these whackjobs. It's weird.

Not the DUggars, but I definitely feel this way about other fundies.

I love the train wreck aspect and the snark. Same reason why I watched J&K+8.

I was, for awhile, maybe 3 or 4 months?

About the time that I had to face Something Big in own personal life, I happened to get cable and ready access to Duggars. Prior to that, I was a Duggar Defender, one of the legion who really didn't watch the show or actually know much but still defended the Duggars.

For those months, I was pretty deep in emotional involvement, had a lot of real feels about the Duggars once I started really seeing them.

Now that personal issue has passed, made peace with it, and the Duggars are barely a blip on my radar. They won't be off my radar, because I do want people esp leghumpers, to more critically see the Duggars and not just accept them at face value for being a "good Christian family" on a show "at least my kids can watch it." Til I show them the mini golf outing. Blech.

I would say I am addicted in a addicty sort of way - can't wait for the new season and I am so anti their views so it all works out

I have all of last season on my pvr and some episodes like the bonus ones I have twice and sometimes I just watch that :D

I can't wait till the wedding is on :D

Definitely addicted and any one that posts here on a regular basis is addicted as well if they like it or not!

I started with the first specials when I loved them.

Then the train wreck started the moment the TTH was built and they now had a series. I can't stop the interest.

I really only watch them when I am home alone relaxing laying on the couch eating junk food.

I'm definitely addicted. To the point that I'm currently writing two different series featuring two different fictional fundie families based off them (and others).

I used to be normal just a year ago, what the hell has happened to me?

I'm a functional addict. I'm addicted enough to read here, and throw shade their way on occasion. I don't watch their show anymore, because I know I will get the gist of an episode, just by reading here.

I'm just pissed that they are in my beloved gossip magazines (those are my addiction).

I'm addicted to internet snark in general. When nothing much is happening with the threads/families I follow here (Duggars, Sparkling adventures, Rodrigueses, Shraders, ... that's about it...) I check out the Nienie thread on GOMI and then cynical jinx and previously.tv for the Mormon polygamist shows. When I'm caught up on all of those I'll occasionally check out another thread here but just haven't been able to get too excited about anyone else (Lori/Ken, PP, etc.) Not sure what makes a compelling read for me...

How bad is it that I just want to watch (and read here ) to see them fall on their faces in some major drama? Does that count as being addicted?

My Duggar and fundie families addiction comes and goes. I completely stopped attending church and started reading deconversion testimonies and books almost 2 years ago. At that time I really started to cast a critical eye on fundamentalists especially. As the Duggars started getting social media accounts I followed them more--hell I have a Yahoo email and one member of the Duggar family is in the top searches every freaking day  I really was fascinated by Jill's engagement and wanted to know why a seemingly non-fundie would willingly marry into their circus. I got the bonus of behind the scenes looks at Ben and Blessa...and Smuggars ridiculous job for a hate group. Now I can't look away and need to check in with Free Jinger a few times per month. I truthfully could care less about Erin Paine's pregnancy or Jessa's wedding. Anna could have ten million babies for all I care. Seeing Alyssa Webster in a sleeveless top AND jeans did make my heart swell with pride for a full 24 hours though.

I am mortified by child exploitation.

If child actresses and actors are covered by the SAG- the same protections (including financial) should be in place for kids working in reality TV too.

A child's special moments, privacy, anonymity, time...should not be a parents to sell away.

I stay involved, (can't say that I've been a solid viewer) because I want to know the fall out...or that changes have been made.

Parents like the Duggars and Gosselins sicken me.

I didn't grow up in a religious household at ALL... my parents wouldn't call themselves atheists, but everyone else would. So, the other end of that religious spectrum has always been a interest... from how they incorporate the teachings in to their lives, to what they choose to reject, to what the actual doctrine is and how they portray it to the public. For that reason, I LOVE shows like the Duggars, Sister Wives, or anything to do with cults because it's SO different to my mindset.

I've gone back and forth about how horrible they are. Sometimes I think they're the worst... sometimes I think this board overreacts and reads WAY to deeply in to things. I go through phases where I'll marathon old episodes looking for stuff... and I have a massive soft spot for Jana... but until one of the kids does something spectacular or outside the norm, I think I'm losing interest in their family per say.

Until the new season starts, that is...

I'll watch the new episodes but don't generally rewatch old ones. I just love seeing the trainwreck. Lately, I've been really intrigued with ATI/IBLP more than the Duggars themselves. I can't tear myself away from Recovering Grace! I just don't understand how you get sucked into something like that and I guess that's what's so interesting about it.

Same. It's a small addiction. I have an account and open a fj tab when I use the internet but I'm fine with not logging in for a few days (which of course when I the boards I'm reading get 5-10 pages)

fan fic ?

One is a terrible fundie erotica romance series published under the name Chastity Summers. The other is gonna be just kinda general fiction. Not fanfic. No real names used.

I am lure in by the "big happy close family" aspect. Slightly jealous from my broken family and waiting for a breakaway or scandal. Horrible, I know.

I'm hoping for a break away or scandal too! It's bound to happen with that many people.

Not addicted but I have a high interest in fundamentalism but I also have a high interest with other topics. The show tends to bore me with the exception of a few episodes here and there. As far as FJ goes I tend to be most interested with the fact based topics/postings rather than the speculative ones however, I post in both.
