How Curious Do You Think the Married Girls Are?

Now that Jill and Jessa are both married and supposedly have the freedom and opportunity to surf the internet without being restricted, do you think they will start looking things up like searching for stuff on themselves, or going to sites to read about stuff that they might've heard about but weren't allowed to see?

Do you think, if they do, they share with each other... or with their still unmarried sisters? Do you think such internet access might raise doubts or questions about their upbringing or Gothard? I wonder if the girls even know about the scandel?! They probably didn't have access to news like that and I doubt JB and M told them.

With Derick taking Jill to see a play and we know he likes secular shows like Seinfeld, etc., which I presume he'd want to share with his bride, she is going to have some of her very narrow experiences stretched a bit, and if she does... do you think she'll encourage Jessa to try some of those things? (ie: Seinfeld, or going to see a play or whatever)

I think once the girls are married, they'll become less close to each other, honestly. It is sad, but I think that can happen very easily after growing up with a family dynamic that encourages you to tattle on each other and constantly "hold each other accountable." They probably have a lot of resentment toward each other that they've never been allowed to express or cope with like normal siblings. Even fighting with your siblings can be better than forcing a smile and acting like everything's great all the time.

I think if they have iphones (and I think all the older kids do?) they are obviously able to look up whatever they're curious about on their own now. The older girls like Jana and Jinger probably know that they can leverage some nice phones and computers from Jim Bob since they're the ones who will be bringing the viewers in for the next few years, once everyone gets bored of Jill and Jessa. And everyone got bored of Jill and Jessa...yesterday.

I think they are plenty curious...about A Lot of things. How could they not be? The one I see going hog wild on the internet looking up anything and everything is Jessa Blessa and more power to her. I see Jill taking advantage of expanding her horizons too but limiting herself to topics on child rearing, cooking, etc. I can see Blessa losing it and becoming a info junkie..I am like this. Whether she expands her horizons in a positive or negative way only time will tell. There is something about J'Blessa that screams "I want more".

Think they are getting TV's for their homes?

Now that they are married are they allowed to go out on their own? Can they have a repairman come to the house without having someone there to keep them accountable?

Repair brother or Ben Seewald- is that who you are referencing?

I wonder if their husbands check out sites first, or if they have some sort of safe software like CovenantEyes which reports your internet usage and can be used to block certain types of sites.

"Honey, Id like to follow a Proverbs 31 Wife blog. Can you find me one that would be appropriate?"

I also agree with a PP about the girls' relationships breaking down a bit once out of the TTH. I feel like the besties will stick together but the other bonds will break down to being simply polite extended family type relationships. For example, I could see Jessa and Jinger calling and texting and visiting each other quite often, but I dont see Jessa and Jill speaking at all besides at family gatherings.

Considering that Jessa bans people who speak negatively about her/her family on instagram, I really doubt that she's going to be surfing the web to see what people are saying about her. As for Jill, I think she might have been curious, but I don't think she'd linger for too long. I imagine she spends a lot more time on pinterest than anything else (but who could blame her if that's true). I also think she either has a shit ton of secret boards, or she has a new pinterest account under an entirely new name.

None of the older Duggar children have ever struck me as being particularly curious about anything, although the Howlers and Johanna did when they were younger (that's probably been beaten out of them now). I chalk this up to the fact that the older ones received the full force of ATI indoctrination, whereas it was a bit watered down for the younger ones. However, curiosity of any type of discouraged at the Duggar home, and any intellectual spark that a child might have is neglected. For example, Jason once said that he wanted to be a scientist, but I bet that JB "laid it on his heart" to be a used car salesman or some other Gothard approved career. To get back to Jill and Jessa, I don't think that they'll show any curiosity about the outside world in the immediate future, but there are still quite young and there is the possibility of change. Derrick seems more mainstream than Ben (who was raised in Vision Forum, another extremist Christian cult run by a sex offender) so I see Jill being exposed to a wider variety of things than Jessa simply because of this. If nothing else, once the TLC/dog and pony freakshow runs its course, I think that both couples will be forced to find jobs in the secular world to some extent and that will force them to be curious about others if they want to survive; simply relying on the ATI/fundamentalist Christian world isn't going to support these couples in the manner to which they have become accustomed.

Any kind of repair man. After all, they would be alone in the house with a non family member - they might be tempted by the plumber's crack or something.

Can they watch tv if their husbands watched tv in their own homes?

Jill has a TV. She posted she was going to watch "God's Not Dead" a few weeks back. I feel like Jessa will have one, too - at least so they can watch the AR Razorbacks play. Ben grew up with tv/movies. And they are young and try to be someone hip so they at least have to watch Kirk Cameron's stuff.

Since all the older kids have had iPhones for years, their Internet usage has been restricted by the amount they chose to follow their parents rules -- or not.

I guess, I'm assuming there is no way their parents could tell what they are looking at? I don't see how they could do that

My purely idle speculation theory is that Jessa will explore a wider range of information and discussion -- but that it's Jill who will become more open/tolerant/worldly through her browsing. While Jessa will become more ideologically extreme.

My reasoning is that I think Jessa will pursue lots of far- right political and religious websites and forums and fall down those particular rabbit holes. Which, like any issue advocacy based site, will reinforce her views and, generally, make them much more passionate and entrenched.

I think Jill will mostly cruise pinterest and babycenter and cafemom and similar sites. And while she's talking to other moms about co-sleeping, or finding instructions for DIY baby slings -- she'll come across lots of women who are very similar to herself. Except they happen to hold down a full-time job, or are single moms, or Athiests, or Muslim or married to another woman. And virtually all will use birth control. And as her kids get older and the articles and topics change - she'll hear from lots of women whose kids go to public school, and date and come out.

So my projection is that Jessa's deeper Internet interests will make her more conservative. Jill's more innocuous interests will make her more liberal.

Actually, Covenant Eyes can be downloaded onto an iPhone. It can be set up to restrict access to types of sites and can also send a detailed report of all internet activity (including amount of time and actual time of visits) to a 'sponsor.' It cannot be deactivated on the phone without a password, set up by the 'sponsor' (presumably their parents).

Personally I already think the older girls have used the internet to satisfy their curiosities. Michelle said once in an old episode that she gives the older girls passwords to the internet so that they can control it for the younger boys to do their schoolwork (because they probably don't think girls get curious/horny and won't look up porn or any adult info ).

I think the limited internet access was mainly to keep the boys away from 'impurity' and to keep the kids from being addicted to the internet. But keep in mind, the kids have iPhones now with internet access and 3G.

Sorry if someone asked this already, but was the internet on their iPhones restricted? If JB still pays their bills, do you think he would still restrict it?

And what would they be curious about? I've lived a pretty liberal life and have been curious about things but that was because I had information on things beforehand, if I make any sense. They've been pretty sheltered so I don't believe they would look up anything risque, at least not yet.

Curious about? Sex? I can see Jessa and Ben asking Suri what position to try tonite...their sexual tension Is ridiculous and I can see them wanting to keep things fresh and fun.

I see Jill looking up what baby names mean and cross stitch patterns, coupons for diapers, crock pot meals for 2.

Apparently there is away to disable the internet on iphones. Which is what the duggars do. So it would seem none of them have had the opportunity to read recovering grace, or look up porn whist running errands, etc. But I would argue that the kids are tech-savvy enough to figure out how to disable this protective feature. I am pretty sure at least one of them would have had a look. Probably Jinger!!!

What would be the point of getting a $$$$ iPhone if there isn't any Internet??? You can text and take photos on a plain old $30 phone

Jessa strikes me as someone that would Google herself, but Jill has drank so much koolaid she probably doesn't.

My hope is one of them come across Recovering Grace and see what a sleaze Gothard really is.

I hope Jessa is curious enough to google English grammar so she won't caption her photos with phrases like "[..] of Ben and I" anymore.

When she talks like that when she's using dialect, that's fine ... but posting it on her 'official' Instagram for the world to see? Kind of sad.

I don't see instagram or any other social media outside of legitimate blogging as being anything more than "talking" to the people who are viewing the post. I don't really have a problem with things I would let slide in normal conversation. The only thing I'm a stickler about is atrocious spelling, like when people spell definitely as defiantly.

I don't see them acting as if they've been locked up in a prison camp completely cut off from the outside world. If they are using the Internet more not, I am sure it's just for e-mail, research and social media. I have no doubt that they are aware of sites like this and have probably read some of the critical comments written about them, but to spend hours everyday reading them, I doubt. They may be curious to read about some things they were taught to see more what other's viewpoints are, but I can bet you they have been "trained" on the evils of the Internet and use it on a limited basis.

Yeah, that doesn't really have anything to do with her Southern dialect, as far as I know. It's a super common hypercorrection here in the States, and it drives me crazy whenever anyone does it.

I can't see Jessa ever allowing anyone that level of control over her again - I think if she wants to know something, she googles it. No internet protection covenant eyes crap for her anymore, no way, no how.
