To be a devil's advocate for a moment, I think some men are thinking about what happens if their wives decide to abort babies that they, the men, would want. Since men are told it's none of their business, a lot of them feel like it's wrong to feel a sense of loss, and indeed our society tells men who are sad that it wasn't their business, so why are they upset? Yet it's every bit their business when a woman keeps the baby and wants financial support through the pregnancy.

While the man has a right to feel sad about it, he has no place in the decision making process. The men at these marches are not there because they feel a personal loss, they are there because they want to influence public policy and control the choices of half the population in this country. His feelings off sadness are of no concern or importance to the right of all women to have abortions.

My predictions: Most of the Duggars (but not Derick & Jill) will pile in the tour bus to come to DC for this (or since its TOMORROW, they are already on their way). Josie will be in her damn stroller again. Some of the Bates will attend, but I can't decide in Erin & Chad will.

I don't think Alyssa and John will attend, and they were up here a few weeks ago for Rep. Webster's swearing in (and failed coup attempt! :? )

As for me, if I can get through the day without beating a marcher senseless with their damn bloody fetus sign, it will be a good day. I should just call in sick like some of colleagues do.

The March for Lifers already ruined my day before 8 AM.

I stupidly stopped at a neighborhood breakfast place on the way to Capitol Hill, instead of eating at home.

It was full of about 25 highschool marchers & their chaperones-- blocking the doorway, filling all the seats, flirting with each other and admiring their hot pink March for Life commemorative hoodies. And they had bought about FIVE cups of coffee between them, and no food. And ZERO coins in the tip jar when I went to the cash register.

I could see other commuters walking by, pausing at the door, & leaving because it was too full. These Marchers were being parasites, taking shelter from the cold and driving away paying customers.

It occured to me that this must be very similar to a Duggar Family infestation-- 25ish rude people, wanting to pay as little $$ as possible, and convinced of their moral superiority.

At least none of these High Schoolers were climbing on the tables.

I have a cousin who lives in DC and it's her opinion that the 'March for Life' gathering is hands down the most irritating, pushy, rude, and destructive of any of the many, many gatherings that go on in DC. Granted, she's a fellow flaming liberal and that may play into her opinion, but I remember last year she posted photographs of all the signs and garbage left behind in random piles all over the city. She noted that they seem to be all gung-ho about "saving" fetuses, but don't seem to give much of a care about the environment in which these children are going to live.

I grew up in DC and my facebook feed is full of this exact opinion this morning from quite a few friends!

On the Catholic front, Mass 4 Life is going on now and pics are popping up on IG. Those bad Catholic teens, don't they realize not to use smartphones during mass :naughty:

From Abigail's blog

Happy March for Life Day!

On March 11, 2014, my son John measured only 3 centimeters at 6 weeks and 1 day since his conception. He had no discernible heartbeat or a fetal pole. His appearance was simply a smear of black against a light grey in a grainy ultrasound photo. Yet given more time, my son John turned into this handsome guy!

I wonder how much money is being spent on these signs that will be tossed in the trash in no time? You would think it would be better to spend money on doing stuff that actually lowers abortion rates.

After scrolling through instagram videos and pictures of this even you should really win an award for self-control. Most of them seem to be extremely obnoxious.

This morning on my way into work, I saw a bunch of people carrying signs that said, "Every Life is a Gift." I hadn't heard about a gathering and wondered who/what would be going on today. I just saw this on my FB feed:

The official March for Life rally and march will take place on Thursday, January 22, 2015. There will be a pre-rally concert on the Mall at 11:30 a.m. and the rally will start at noon (there will be jumbo-trons for all to see the program). Promptly at 1:00 p.m. the march to Congress and the Supreme Court will begin. We look forward to seeing you there to support life and speak out for the unborn!

The 2015 March for Life theme is "Every Life is a Gift."

My office is 2 blocks from the Capitol. Maybe I should take a walk at lunch time. I wonder if I'll run into any of fundies we "know." Joshie is already there along with some Bates kids.

I happen to be in DC today for other reasons (I didn't even know today was the march until yesterday), so I snuck out from where I was supposed to be and walked around for a while. I did see a few Duggars--I wasn't looking and nearly ran into Jana--along with others I didn't recognize. There are lots of interesting groups there. I like crowds and I kind of enjoyed walking around.

I was at the science museum this morning and there were definitely a few funding types. Some teenagers near the whale evolution exhibit were speaking very loudly about how everything there was a lie.

You mean shaming and attacking women over their choices with fancy signs DOESN'T lower abortion rates?

If abortion had been legal when I was born, I wouldn't be here! Neither would Derick, Dan or Baby Dilly!"

So let me get this straight, Cathy Dillard: You are saying that if your parents wanted to abort you?? Did they tell you that?

Oh yuck. I work just up the street from one of the Planned Parenthoods in DC. Last year I was out of town during the march but I saw pics on social media of obnoxious teens crowded in front of the clinic. I know that the best response is always to not engage, but part of me is tempted to hand out some contrarian leaflets or something.

Is this the one on 16th Street?

This morning all was quiet, so I made sure to roll down my window and yell:

Thank you for all that you do for women!

I think the escorts in their orange vests smiled and it seemed to lift their spirits.

Yesterday, the protesters were trying to enter claiming they had appointments...

They apparently thought the escorts were idiots.

I was totally pro choice until I just learned that we could have lost baby dilly in this space/time continuum. Thanks for changing my mind, Cathy! :?

Soooooooo Cathy was an unplanned pregnancy and her mother wanted to abort but couldn't because it was illegal? Nice to know that. I wonder how she knew that-did they tell her that? Is it something about her parents marriage that makes her think that? Did she overhear her parents talking about how they should have aborted? Did she feel her parents hated her and wished she had never been born? Is it because she has no idea who her father is and felt that her mother might have wanted an abortion instead of the shame of having a baby out of wedlock?

Or is it just because her mother was pro choice?

It would suck if she was saying this despite having parents who never intended to abort their much wanted baby though. Its not like every pro choice person who exists wants to abort every pregnancy they have. Some would, because they do not want kids-but people who don't want kids use birth control too because nobody wants an abortion, its the best choice for them out of a bad situation. Others would only abort under certain circumstances, others wouldn't have one themselves, but think other women should be allowed to think differently.

Cathy was adopted as an infant. I guess she assumes that if abortion had been legal, her bio-mom would have aborted her rather than giving birth and allowing her to be adopted by a family who wanted a baby. Of course, abortion IS legal today and many babies are still put up for adoption. So unless somebody told her she would have been aborted, but for the illegality of abortion, she's made up a story to suit her anti-choice mindset.

Ahhhhhh now I understand more. I didn't know Cathy was adopted.

Making up a story about abortion?

Way to slut-shame your biological mother, Cathy Dillard, you so-called Christian.

Yep. I only saw escorts out this morning, but it looked like there were a handful of people praying out front later today. Overall, seemed quiet.
