If you were in a position to help a gay kid, teenaged, who faces bullying, what books and other resources would you recommend?

Are there educational films / documentaries and related training material that would be especially useful?

Burris,

I think this is worth posting in "Are You There FJ...." a lot of people including me have been pointed to good resources by putting up questions surrounding how to help and interact with toddlers/kids/teens. That part of the board gets a lot of views, so it really ups your chances of getting a good direction.

Do you have an email address (it can be a throwaway email address) that I can give to a friend of mine who speaks on this topic? They've* been invited to the White House to meet the president for their work, so really knows this stuff better than anyone you could hope to meet. They cud possibly know of some in-person resources specific to your area. I don't know if the kid in question is a kid who has a stable home or risks being kicked out, if the kid is a kid you happen to know or is your own, and don't want to presume either way.

*biologically female, neutral gendered, preferred pronoun is they/their

MARIANNE: Thank you.

ARETEJO: That could be a good idea. Thank you.

DGAYLE: I appreciate the offer. I don't normally communicate with new people by e-mail, however, especially since I live in Canada, and so the situation requires resources in this area.

No - the kid in question is not mine.

Happily, he lives in a supportive environment. The problem he faces is bullying. Given the number of sexual minorities who face painful discrimination, some of whom engage in self-harm, I would like very much to hook him up with written resources, films, and other media about gay people who have passed through that painful period of their lives - puberty - and are now happy and successful. The 'It Gets Better' Project - some of the videos related to it - may prove useful in this. These kinds of things are related to his interest in art and film.

You might want to see if there is some kind of LGBT speakers beurau or club for teens in his town. In my area there's a non-profit group that comes and does presentations and holds workshops at schools- specifically to discourage bullying and provide support to sexual minorities ( new phrase to me - but seems nice and inclusive) .

Maybe some sort of social media support group? There must be a ton of those.

Ah, I had no idea you're in Canada. My friend's information on resources in various areas is all in the US. I'll see what other sources, like books or films, are recommended.

My sweet pup was diagnosed with a brain tumor in September. She passed away in my arms on Thanksgiving morning. It all happened so fast. She didn't want to eat anything the day before, but prior to that was ok. Knew it was near time and had booked an appointment to take her next week. However, she decided for me. She was only 8 and really was one of the best dogs. She never met a stranger, human or dog. Life isn't the same without her.

I made my first Granny Square! After nearly 30 years of knitting and crocheting this was a project I never did. Until now! I needed something to do with my rest of very colourful yarn and now I am very happy. I need to try different needles with my yarns but I think I found something nice for the future.
I needed only 3 different youtube videos until I found a person who explained the concept slowly and repetitive and with words I can understand. I hate when these tutorials make me feel dumb.

Someone please remind me to buy peanut butter. Seriously, I have been meaning to get some for at least three weeks, and everytime I remember, the shops are already closed!

You know what I hate most about subtle racism? The gaslighting. Stop cosplaying as a nice person and say it with your chest.

We had to put our 14 year old dachshund, Trinket, down today.  She was fine Thursday, but by mid-morning yesterday, it was apparent that something was really wrong,  She had zero energy, lost her appetite and began walking into corners.  By morning I knew it was time for her to have her final visit to the vet.  She had lost about a pound and a half recently.  RIP, Trinket!

Horrific! A 6 year old boy was murdered, and mother severly injured, in a hate crime in Chicago. Reports say they are both Palestinian Muslims and were specifically targeted because of that. Thankfully the man who did it is in custody
