Just because we found out where they live and we need a thread (if you all want - if you don't delete it)

Now we can discuss "The Writer" and he feels about ice cream

So this morning he posted about the world

And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day." -Genesis 1:3-5

In creation, God displays His absolute power and sovereignty as Creator. He commands, and it is so. He says "Let there be light." and there is light. The countless stars are mentioned on a small side note! Doubtless, God could have created all things in a single moment. Almighty Jehovah could have created a zillion universes in a split second--and infinitely more. Why then, did God use an entire day to create this category of creation or that? Why an entire six days to create the universe, when He might have done so in an instant? He certainly wasn't weary or tired. If God needed rest, He wouldn't be God. Doesn't Psalm 121:4 say that He never slumbers or sleeps? God worked six days and rested on one not because He needed rest, but as a pattern for mankind. God set the example. God created order. In His infinite wisdom He ordained the week, but not because He was weak.

Someone apparently is weak :cracking-up::cracking-up::cracking-up:

Methinks the writer could use some practice. I felt like I was reading a little baby sermon written by a 5th grade kid.

This is the man who penned those classic lines about beautiful, majestic pearls after all... giving Shakespeare a run for his money here people.

Posted

I wonder if he was mad that Jessa posted the note about the pearls - because that was written by a fifth grader imo :D

Posted

I want so bad for Ben to start a blog, "Majestic Pearls of Wisdom'

Posted

Come on guys- he has to kill time doing something... You can only do it so many times a day before chafing appears.

Posted

Where does Ben get off thinking he's a "writer"? If he's a writer, I'm the queen of Sheba.

Posted

Awww... poor Ben is weak? Needs more fluids... it's hard work being a married man, you know!

I really want to see a Jessa homecooked meal. Maybe those rolls will only be "toasted" now.

Posted

Boring to read, like his father's.

Posted

Why did God ordain the week? I was pretty sure he ordained the weak.

Not that we are used to fundie bloggers with a mastery of language (and I'm not the greatest writer myself) but most of them seem to at least be able to write coherent sentences. Or understand punctuation. Whoever advised Ben to write - yikes. :cray-cray:

And nobody would really care if he was a bad writer if he wasn't CALLING himself a "writer." Stick to what you're good at, buddy! (You'll find it someday!)

Well I was just shocked that he actually called himself a writer, a businessman I can slightly believe because he is apparently "studying" business"

but why did he choose Writer - because Jessa chose Author - except she actually co-wrote a book so that is true. I would have believed and laughed less if he chose "Wanna be Pastor" because that is what he apparently wants to be.....

But Writer - he doesn't really write -he muses - so we should call him a muse who muses

:D

Hey Ben - if you or Jessa read here- I have a fab idea that will get the two of you LOTS of the TLC screen time. Enroll in U of Arkansas! Go major in English and religious studies. Take Jessa along and she can major in communications or business or also religion. TLC would eat that up. You'd be the most popular thread on 19K&C as you navigate such pitfalls as how to juggle full-time school with family obligations; bouncing back from a bruising debate with that pesky liberal professor; Jessa having jealousy issues and insecurity due to what the other girls are wearing; coming to terms with the pros and cons of your sheltered upbringings and confronting your parents with your opinions. Your writing and your theology will get polished and you'll have a much stronger base to start your career.

Just a thought :-). Plus, you know, maybe some of the younger sibs will see you two as role models....

I think this is a great idea, and I'm not kidding. I'd love to watch "A Duggar goes to college" and see them adapt their homegrown values to a college campus atmosphere. I don't want them to fail or make fools of themselves... I'd genuinely enjoy watching and empathizing with a show that chronicles the transition from "one of 19" to "on my own." Brilliant storyline.

I completely agree. This would be awesome. And they could major in the same thing and take all the same classes. It would definitely be easier because then they could study together and car pool and not worry about wasting gas or missing each other at meal times because they would have the same schedule. And since they're married with pretty much no real income, they could qualify for financial aid. Hell, UofAr may even give them a free ride for all the free publicity! Seriously, this is an amazing idea. Of course it'll all get shot to shit if Jessa gets pregnant, but hey, plenty of people go to school with babies. Like they literally go to school with a baby on their back. She could easily sit in class with one of those stupid covers and nurse. If she and Bin are in all the same classes, she could just study his notes and not have to worry about taking her own. Then they could start their own business or something together and actually know what the fuck they're doing. Plus it would be great for them to have that educational background if they intend to homeschool. This is seriously a fabulous idea and I would love to see it happen for them. For any of these families, really. This seriously needs to happen. Now.

You make it sound like it would be easy as pie to go to college with an infant. Have you ever been to school, without an infant even? Even just making it to class would be a challenge, let alone trying to stay through lectures with a fussy baby, let alone trying to pay attention or ever get any work done... Also, you think Bin could/would take notes worth studying?

Being a writer takes more than spitting out your thoughts on Facebook every few days. It's an actual real job that takes a lot of time. I know a lot of writers. Somehow it ended up where about half my friends are writers. When I saw writers, I mean it. Published books. Some independent and still selling like hotcakes, some with agents, and 1 of them even has a book that has been film-optioned by universal. All of them put a lot of time into it, which Ben isn't. Facebook posts don't count. Having your name on the by-line years ago for a book that is suspected of being written mostly by Daddy doesn't make you a writer now either. None of them like the little pansy-ass wanna-be's who claim to be writers just because it's trendy, and who don't spend any real time working on it. It makes the people who say "I'm a writer" who really are look bad by association.

Ben needs a job other than doing chores for his daddy-in-law. Thank goodness Derek was out of school and in a real job before marrying one of the little princesses, or else he'd be Daddy-in-law's chore-bitch too.

Posted

Ben - You want to be a writer or a pastor? Get out of your in-laws hair and GET AN EDUCATION. You're not a complete baffoon, you could actually have one of those careers. Both require education. Go get it. Now.

Last we ever officially heard, Bin was still going to college for some sort of business degree. Has he stated that he is no longer going to pursue this or are we assuming since we see/hear nothing that would suggest he's still attending college?

Posted

No, he's still in college. Check his Facebook - the comments by others section. Sometimes he replies. Someone asked him what he was reading in college, and he replied: "I was reading mainly philosophy, national government, state and local government this semester." That was on December 22nd, so the semester was over. So as of last December, at least, he was still in college.

I'd like to see that happen, it would be a better plot line, than watching Smuganna trying to drive and park in DC.

A few of my friends participate in November Novel writing month. Most write through out the year because they enjoy it. Nothing published yet but most are in editing stages for one story or another. I can't wait to read their stories. Granted, most have been writing for years as a hobby. Many of their stories were written for fun and will never be published. They have taken the time to practice and go to workshops. They like honest criticism because it helps them grow.
