Duggar Politics - Anything beyond Pro-Life & Gay Hate

I'm curious. The Duggars (and other extremist fundies) are loud talkers on their political stance regarding abortion and gay rights but do they have much knowledge on legislation beyond these two hot button topics? I'm thinking about budgetary concerns, involvement in the middle east, our active conflicts, etc, etc. I know that they are Republican and lean far to the right, but have they talked about anything else? It just seems that being of limited education and minimal communication skills that they stick to these two issues and nothing else. I could be missing it. Has anyone heard of their larger scope of political beliefs?

i haven't heard anything about it, but it doesn't mean they don't have a stance on it, just that they're focusing on anti-gay/pro-life stuff.

growing up fundie, almost at their level, we pretty well towed the party line with the far-right. even today, my father is a tea party member (mum is still a republican, but i think she's less extreme). so, if the same goes for them, then they believe in less gun control, supporting the war, supporting israel against palestine (which is a sticky issue in and of itself, but more of what i mean is that there was just unquestioning support of israel), dissolution of unions, free-market capitalism, things like that. we regularly listened to rush limbaugh as well and when we eventually got cable tv, the only news station we ever watched was fox news.

eta: i doubt they ever truly actually THINK about their views, more like they're just spoon-fed them by other people. my spoon-feeding did not end up going very well.

Through his twitter account, Josh has been promoting voter ID laws and the Keystone pipeline. He suddenly developed an interest in 2nd amendment rights after the Sandy Hook massacre. They also support Israel, but only because it will be a key factor in their Apocalypse.

I do agree that there are some issues that they are curiously silent about. For example, there's no activity today from him about Obama restoring normal relations with Cuba. Agree or disagree, you would think he'd have SOMETHING to say about such a historic event.

the far right seem to all share the same brain when it comes to such things. they all seem to all want the exact same things. it is pretty amazing really. the duggers are so clueless about what they want.

They apparently "support" the military; however they'd never let their children enlist nor would the understand anything about the current wars and the difficult position it puts soldiers in etc.

I don't think the Duggars *really* have political interests outside of the conservative favorites gay marriage and abortion. Other than those, it's only important if it affects Jim Bob's wallet.

They're hung up on any issue involving sex (abortion, gay marriage), and oppose anything that threatens white, straight men from being in power. That seems to be about it...

Yep the abortion and gay thing everything else is icing. they don't care if those same politicians make people poorer keep them from having insurance take their rights way. it all does not matter they are blind to the people they hurt.

Big business capitalism, trickle down economics, Reagan worship

The Reagan worship is funny, because the right has swung sooooo far right that I bet Reagan couldn't even win the Republican primary if he were around today.

If abortion and gay marriage was suddenly declared illegal, it would not mark the end of the fundamentalists march toward controlling society. Next on their list would be things like eliminating public schools and making a divorce extremely difficult to obtain. There are some in the fundamentalist movement that want to link the right to vote with owning property. They are a font of all manner of social policy that would turn our Democracy into a theocracy.

How does that square up with international ownership? Oh i guess they'd buy back everything first.

i agree, there was a local radio station that played only Reagan speeches on a loop a few years ago. Most of what he said in speeches was really balanced. It's too bad those days seem to be gone.

How can they be Republican when they don't even send their kids to real school?? How can they be Republican when all they do us breed? Republicans might be ignorant but aren't stupid. And the only thing they care about and are against is gays and abortion

I doubt that the Duggars know anything about Reagan, other than the fact that he is a conservative icon, because I think that they would find him to be personally offensive. Reagan married and divorced several times, was a lapsed Presbyterian, believed in astrology and UFOs, worked in the secular film industry, and was not the "spiritual leader of his household." Given how much the Duggars obsess over other people's personal lives, I don't think Reagan would pass their purity test.

They would probably have strong feelings about universal preschool and any law that affected the decision to homeschool.

strong feelings hell they want to close all schools and eliminate birth control and a lot of other things.

Conservatism of the 80's is pretty much liberalism of today. Reagan was a radical Republican then, but I'm seeing more Democrats today citing him against Teapublicans, and more Teapublicans quietly ignoring him.

Reagan was married twice. First to Jane Wyman (1940-49) and then to Nancy Davis (1952-2004) Most of the fawning biographies of Reagan that I've come across mention Ms. Wyman very briefly or not at all. She was a much better actor than Reagan and Nancy put together. She appeared in several movies that are classics. She was nominated for four Academy Awards, two Golden Globes, Soap Opera Awards, and Emmy's.

And no, Ronald and Nancy Reagan would NEVER have passed the Duggar's purity test. For starters, there's urban legend (google it and it was in one of Kitty Kelley's books) that Nancy gave "the best blowjob in Hollywood". Second, she was already pregnant with her daughter Patti Davis, when she married Ronald Reagan in March 1952.

Jane Wyman not only was nominated for 4 Academy Awards, but she won Best Actress in 1948 against some quite formidable competition: Ingrid Bergman, Olivia de Haviland, Barbara Stanwyck and Irene Dunne. TCM has a short clip of Jane talking about that awards ceremony. She thought there was no way she'd win and was totally unprepared. TCM is airing the film this Sunday morning at 10:45.

Yea, well so did the ban against abortion. But the Duggars can't be bothered with facts and history. They have ideals to worry about!

My sweet pup was diagnosed with a brain tumor in September. She passed away in my arms on Thanksgiving morning. It all happened so fast. She didn't want to eat anything the day before, but prior to that was ok. Knew it was near time and had booked an appointment to take her next week. However, she decided for me. She was only 8 and really was one of the best dogs. She never met a stranger, human or dog. Life isn't the same without her.

I made my first Granny Square! After nearly 30 years of knitting and crocheting this was a project I never did. Until now! I needed something to do with my rest of very colourful yarn and now I am very happy. I need to try different needles with my yarns but I think I found something nice for the future.
I needed only 3 different youtube videos until I found a person who explained the concept slowly and repetitive and with words I can understand. I hate when these tutorials make me feel dumb.

Someone please remind me to buy peanut butter. Seriously, I have been meaning to get some for at least three weeks, and everytime I remember, the shops are already closed!

You know what I hate most about subtle racism? The gaslighting. Stop cosplaying as a nice person and say it with your chest.

We had to put our 14 year old dachshund, Trinket, down today.  She was fine Thursday, but by mid-morning yesterday, it was apparent that something was really wrong,  She had zero energy, lost her appetite and began walking into corners.  By morning I knew it was time for her to have her final visit to the vet.  She had lost about a pound and a half recently.  RIP, Trinket!

Horrific! A 6 year old boy was murdered, and mother severly injured, in a hate crime in Chicago. Reports say they are both Palestinian Muslims and were specifically targeted because of that. Thankfully the man who did it is in custody
      This is pure evil
