NY Observer: Duggars seem nice until you meet their agenda

My favorite part is at the end where the author gives suggestions for future episodes. I'd like to propose the following:

"The Seewalds Meet Actual Holocaust Survivors"

"The Dillards to Nepal and Actually Experience Another Culture"

"Josh Tells Anna He Doesn't Want More than 4 Kids and Has Applied to Law School"

"Michelle and JimBob Parent"

"Jana, Jinger, and Joy Go Glamping"

"Jordyn Gets Attention"

P.S. The Dillards one is more for Jill - I get the feeling that she would rather enjoy getting to do something like that. Don't know I think that, but still do.

"But the fact is, Mrs. Duggar does not stay at home. Not at all."

I wonder what her calendar looks like. How many days out of the year is Michelle at home?

TLC-funded road trips. Demonstrations. Rallies. Political stumping. Book signings. Appearances on Good Morning America/Today Show. Speaking at conferences. The annual pilgrimage to Big Sandy.

Dollars to donuts, I'm at home more than a mother (and father) who have 16 kids under their roof and their "authority".

I wonder how many hours a day of homeschooling the howlers and lost girls receive nowadays, since the family is on the road so much? And, a moving bus or crowded hotel room is hardly the greatest learning environment for them.

Ironic that the learning channel is enabling the truancy and lack of proper education for the minor children it exploits, too...

I'm pretty sure the best part of this article involved all the leghumpers who admit to having not even bothered reading the article before calling the author a liar. =p

I also enjoy the woman who said that the author should do her homework since it's "a known fact" that bc pills work by getting you pregnant and then making you abort.

Let's be honest, TLC stopped having anything to do with learning when they decided to just call themselves TLC and get rid of the acronym.

At least they somewhat changed their name, unlike the History Channel, which now has nothing to do with history despite keeping the name in place.

I wonder if this is why Jessa asked to take over the homeskoolin'. Perhaps she could see that the kids were t learning anything cause momma was never home.

I couldn't be more disappointed in the changes made to the History Channel and A&E. We no longer have cable or satellite. There is just nothing to miss anymore.

Speaking of which, now that Jessa is gone, who is schooling the children? Surely not that woman who loves there, what's her name? Oh yeah, Michelle.

I often see supporters of this family making inane comments about how the world would be a better place if people were like the Duggars. Yes, imagine a world where people were not educated beyond the age of 16 and there were no scientists, no engineers, no teachers.....I would love to ask Jim Bob to go back in history and show me a successful society in which nobody was educated. These people are parasites.

This. If no one went to college, who would maintain the IT systems behind the Duggar website, and their IG and FB accounts? College-educated men and women are behind the scenes making the Duggars' "ministry" possible.

Take all women out of the workforce, and suddenly there are a lot less people to construct, maintain and staff all sorts of services that the Duggars rely on. Utilities to their house. Airplanes to get them to their many speaking engagements. And many other things.

I believe a Query is now schooling them. Which one though, no idea!

For years now most of their schoolwork has been on the computer through a program used in many small Christian Schools--Switched On Schoolhouse. I saw recently that they have gone to Abeka used in many top Christian Schools that actually send students to real colleges even if they do teach creation I imagine they do like most of the kids I know who use the online public high school. They sit there and do a ton of work, then go on and do what they want for a few days, weeks etc then do another huge chunk. Not everyone--Humanist, Christian. you-name-it CARES about what is taught in school. Tons of people just slog thru and go on to live successful lives, albeit probably not as hedge fund managers or neurosurgeons. Of all the things in Duggarland this is perhaps the least worrying--they do "school." It's documents. They get G.E.D.s just like much of the country. I'm far more worried that they get NO PRIVACY, no real "say" in their lives and are never allowed to question ANYTHING is far more damaging. Lots of people blow off school and start over as an adult--not a big deal in this country, you can do it. But knowing no one who is in any way different to you THAT makes life very hard.

They probably argue that if it was only men at the college and it only had people with their beliefs, then I spose they might let them go. But that will NEVER happen.

Plus with their education standards, no one would ever be a dr, that is for sure.

Oh dear sweet Jesus... if we could make “Live From Tontitown: Neil deGrasse Tyson’s Fireside Chat At the Duggars.†a real thing, I would simply die.

Special guest: Bill Nye The Science Guy. Hosted by Seth MacFarlane and Bill Maher. We can work Tina Fey and Amy Pohler in there too. Please TLC... it would be ratings GOLD.

sounds like someone may also be reading at fj :wink-kitty:

I noticed there were comments about the Duggars on People.com's article on Josie's 5th Birthday, mentioning their agenda.

Did you all know it was on Facebook News that Jimboob has hired extra security since the Fayetteville victory that He, Mullet and Josh push for against gay and transgender people. I wonder if TLC is paying for the extra bodyguards.

That would legitimize them too much, their posing fakeness doesn't deserve to be in the same room as the greats. 8-) :romance-heartsfade:

But at the same time what a smack down. I'd pay to see just Bill Maher interviewing Jim Bob.

My sweet pup was diagnosed with a brain tumor in September. She passed away in my arms on Thanksgiving morning. It all happened so fast. She didn't want to eat anything the day before, but prior to that was ok. Knew it was near time and had booked an appointment to take her next week. However, she decided for me. She was only 8 and really was one of the best dogs. She never met a stranger, human or dog. Life isn't the same without her.

I made my first Granny Square! After nearly 30 years of knitting and crocheting this was a project I never did. Until now! I needed something to do with my rest of very colourful yarn and now I am very happy. I need to try different needles with my yarns but I think I found something nice for the future.
I needed only 3 different youtube videos until I found a person who explained the concept slowly and repetitive and with words I can understand. I hate when these tutorials make me feel dumb.

Someone please remind me to buy peanut butter. Seriously, I have been meaning to get some for at least three weeks, and everytime I remember, the shops are already closed!

You know what I hate most about subtle racism? The gaslighting. Stop cosplaying as a nice person and say it with your chest.

We had to put our 14 year old dachshund, Trinket, down today.  She was fine Thursday, but by mid-morning yesterday, it was apparent that something was really wrong,  She had zero energy, lost her appetite and began walking into corners.  By morning I knew it was time for her to have her final visit to the vet.  She had lost about a pound and a half recently.  RIP, Trinket!

Horrific! A 6 year old boy was murdered, and mother severly injured, in a hate crime in Chicago. Reports say they are both Palestinian Muslims and were specifically targeted because of that. Thankfully the man who did it is in custody
      This is pure evil
