Dillard family Thanksgiving photo

Just happened to be on the Duggar blog site and saw the section "Dillard family". When I clicked on it, there was a little blurb about their Thanksgiving and Cathy's health. Nice photo too, I thought.

 

Jill does not look Fundie dressed to me at all here. A lot of young women would be dressed like that. I even see some leg and knee. LOL. Maybe Derick's family is having some influence on her?

Must be that Derek's family is not as fundie - his mom has jeans on!

Jill's knees are almost poking out from under her skirt.

Is there hope for Jill to go Fundie Lite?

I'm so glad to see Cathy looking so good! Hope she is still doing well.

That's a really cute skirt on Jill. It does seem kinda short for Duggar standards but it looks cute on her. And, hot damn, is it just me or is she HUGE for 5 months?

Glad to see Cathy looking better- hope she is healing and will recover to spoil that grandbaby! I don't get the matchy-matchy either but I bet they are all Razorback fans and have lots of red clothing in their wardrobes. That maternity top looks like something Michelle would wear- I wonder if she has busted out her maternity wear and passed it on the Jill now that "that season of life" is over for her. I know we will NEVER see Blessa wearing some of Michelle's old mat threads- but Jill just might.....

Cathy believes that "sickness is a weapon the enemy uses to try to distract us from Kingdom work." She determined early on that she would fight her sickness by praying, reading the Bible, and sharing Jesus' love with others. Cathy's doctors are pleased with her progress, and her family is grateful to God for healing her of cancer.

Ok well she was in the hospital and received conventional medical care, she did not "just" fight by praying, reading the Bible, and sharing. That medical care is undoubtedly a large part of why she is standing in that Thanksgiving photo - why no credit to doctor or medicine or science?

They need to understand that even though they leave it up to God, God provided them with fantastic medical staff; who are actually the ones that save lives.

It's great to see that Kathy wears jeans, it's such a breath of fresh air considering it's all skirts for the Duggars.

It really annoys me when fundies put words in other people's mouths to make themselves look better. Just like Abby Maxwell's thankful list not matching up with what the Maxwells put on their blog, this is clearly the work of the Duggars thinking that Cathy isn't fundie enough, and her words need to sound more "Godly." I have long suspected that the Duggars proclaim that Michelle's lesbian sister doesn't approve of gay marriage in order to save face.

In any case, this is what is known as falsifying information, AKA lying. I thought that was a sin?

Reality probably is... they found a prewritten prayer with that "sickness is a weapon" line that Cathy really liked and made a comment about how she found it uplifting. So, she got to "say" it on the blog.

And thank you to any doctors, nurses, and medical professionals! I went through similar struggles with my father's cancer battle. We lost him 2 years ago but ALL the staff we dealt with in all the hospitals and clinics were so warm and loving and made it a little bit easier to deal with. We're still all so thankful for all of it.

1. Jill, cut your hair or put it up already.

2. I am glad the Duggar blog photos are finally putting the M children with their parents instead of trying to make JB and M's brood look bigger.

I know it's hard to tell just from photos...but Jill looks super happy and relaxed in all of the photos with Derick's family. Run, Jill! You can have that life! A life with pants, where your children can have their own bedrooms!

I still don't understand how a skirt like Jill's is more modest than jeans like Cathy's :cray-cray:

I don't think the wearing of skirts is a modestly thing. Believe it or not but the concept or women wearing those skirts (and have the girls train to do so) is so that their husbands will have easier access to them in moments of "need". This may not actually be practiced anymore, but it is where it comes from. With that said the women should not be wearing panties.

Er, I'm not sure that is very true...I mean, I don't give fundies much credit for any of their beliefs being rational to begin with, but I really do not think any of the basis of skirts has to do with easy access to the V.

A lot of fundies wearing skirts is not JUST modesty, but their belief in very binary, defined gender roles. They are firm believers of "traditionally" male and female gender roles, clothes etc. Women are supposed to be "feminine" and to them, feminine = skirts. Of course, the idea of gender is totally socially constructed to begin with, but don't go telling that to the Duggars...

Seriously?? You are f'ing joking, right?

Umm, no, that is not where the wearing skirts and not pants comes from. It comes from a section of the OT that states that a man should dress and look like a man and a woman should dress and look like a woman. I am not quoting exactly, but that is the gist of it. Pants are considered men's apparel, hence, fundies (and Orthodox Jews, Hassidic Jews and other strict Christian sects) will not have women wearing pants. I used to work for a company owned and run by Orthodox Jews. It is not a modesty thing, it is going by the bible. Keeping the skirt below the knee, now that is a modesty thing.

I think the Dillards are a step in the right direction for Jill but don't mistake jeans and smaller families with their politics being any different from the Duggars'. I was looking at Dan's IG and it features pics of him posing with Santorum, attending the Values Voters conference etc. Wolves in sheep's clothing...

I mean... I don't think anyone on the board is expecting the Dillards to be rubbing elbows with the Clintons and having cocktails with Anderson Cooper while they all discuss LGBTQ rights and how to solve the energy crisis.

I never understand people who think that a pair of pants will change all the religious doctrine and agenda.

No... wearing pants has no baring on someone's belief system. However...

A Duggar girl wearing pants will mean a rejection of (at least part of) the doctrine they've grown up with - thus meaning they've engaged in critical thought. That could be as major as them thinking "Hey... I don't believe in God and Jesus after all so I'm going out in a pair of booty shorts" or it could be as simple as "God loves me enough to forgive me if I want to go a few extra days without shaving my legs and nobody needs to see that".

We're all fixated on the pants because it's going to be the most obvious sign of "rebellion" from the Gothard ways. But yeah... it means squat in the grand scheme of things.

This is Free Jinger, where people were SHOCKED to learn that Alyssa Webster got pregnant two months after getting married, are still convinced that Josh and Anna are using birth control, that Jessa is going to run away from fundamentalism (any minute now...), that Jinger wants to be a bohemian in New York because she once said she wanted to live in a city, that John-David has secretly shirked the fundie ideal for a life of drinking and hooking up with local gals, and that Derick was only pretending to be a fundie to get Jill away from her family. So yeah, you're probably not too far off.

Yeah, if what they put quote marks around is an actual quote then Cathy is pretty damn fundie, pants or not.

      My sweet pup was diagnosed with a brain tumor in September. She passed away in my arms on Thanksgiving morning. It all happened so fast. She didn't want to eat anything the day before, but prior to that was ok. Knew it was near time and had booked an appointment to take her next week. However, she decided for me. She was only 8 and really was one of the best dogs. She never met a stranger, human or dog. Life isn't the same without her.

      We had to put our 14 year old dachshund, Trinket, down today.  She was fine Thursday, but by mid-morning yesterday, it was apparent that something was really wrong,  She had zero energy, lost her appetite and began walking into corners.  By morning I knew it was time for her to have her final visit to the vet.  She had lost about a pound and a half recently.  RIP, Trinket!
