IMO, she could be on her way to becoming an overweight teen. This is based mostly on her saying she eats Ramen noodles for breakfast. I can only imagine what the rest of her diet is like. If she starts it out that bad, the rest can't be good.

I don't think Joy is fat, I think it's just puberty and her body shape. She needs clothes and bras that fits her. Not using her I sisters

Ugh .... I'm in the "big girls" club - sadly the rest of me is regular size so it's disproportionate. Hate it. I've tried on every bra ever made & still not comfortable, still don't fit right, still don't look right. And I actually have the freedom to go shop for my own, poor Joy.

You can have all the opinion that you want, but IMO it is completely inappropriate to snark on a teenage girl that did not ask to be put on tv. It's not like her parents give her a choice, she has to appear. It is really low of you to say that, especially when there is a lot of speculation that at least some of the Duggar's read this.

It doesn't matter what she eats or when she eats it, it is not okay to snark on a child that has no choice about being in the spotlight. It's really none of you business what she eats or how she looks.

She is a beautiful young girl who is probably a whole lot thinner than a lot of other girls her age, but it is hard to see that when she is on tv.

Dear Joy Anna,

If you are reading this please know that I think you are a gorgeous young lady. You are very pretty and have a great personality. Please keep hanging with your brothers. I can tell you all have a good time together. I meant no snark when I said eating ramen for breakfast could lead to a weight problem. I just honestly think that it is an unhealthy way to start the day. I am glad to hear you are trying out better choices. Please don't settle for used undergarments.

Your fan,

JessaJessa

I hate when people here internalize another's post. No one needs to be lambasted for their opinions and observations. And even if Joy did not make the choice to be on TV, she is on TV and is reaping the positives (cars, clothes, iPhone, computers, travel) as well as the negatives. This is what life is all about on this planet. Further, the kids are 25/28 of the entire cast- if there is to be no snarking on the kids, FJ may as well shut down. Jesus, it's not like someone voiced an opinion on Joy's usefulness or outward beauty- a simple statement was made based on TV appearance.

I'm anti-body shaming anyone, male or female, on TV or not, teen or adult. Reading or hearing others make a judgement over something you may have NO CONTROL over can really put the mind fuck to you. It's how people end up with eating disorders. Hell, it doesn't even have to be about you but someone who you relate to body wise. It's not that I think the kids aren't snark worthy it's the fact that I think making a comment that someone is too fat or too skinny is a dangerous thing. You want to say "I really am concerned about her health after hearing that she eats ramen noodles for breakfast. It's nothing but sodium and carbs and that's not a healthy start to the day." I'm OK with that, that's something she can change. She may not be able to change the fact that she's a curvy girl.

As a busty gal myself, I really find it aggravating that my sister and I could wear the same exact thing (she is an A cup, I am a DD), and I would be considered obscene or vulgar while she wouldn't. You see comments all the time to this nature when busty girls wear anything with a v-neck, halter, etc. This kind of body shaming is not unique to the fundie world. Hell, just look at the comment section of any fashion or celebrity blog on a post about Kate Upton. Shes called trashy and a porn star for existing with a large chest, even if she is just walking down the street in normal clothes.

Yep! Me and my sister are both large chested and we would get called trashy by our Catholic aunt in WINTER because of our chests. We're from fricking Montreal, we're buried under Canada Goose quotes, not exactly NIKE style....

I just want to take the poor girl shopping and buy her some nice (new) clothes and bras that fit HER. There is nothing wrong with Joy, just her awful parents making her wear poorly fitted clothes and bras (and the latter is actually very bad for you).

When did she say that? Was that recently? We have seen her eating raw (?) ramen noodles for breakfast but that was, like, 5 years ago when she was still a child who spent lots of energy running around with the howlers all day long. I think that says nothing about her current choices of food.

I think Joy looked stunning in Jessa's bridesmaids pictures. She has natural beauty in her that does not require lots and lots of make-up. I really like her tomboyish looks and she reminds me of Tori Bates who also has this natural beauty and looks hot in a way that no other Bates girl does, IMHO.

When Joy Anna gets married maybe she will register at an upscale bra and lingerie store, and hopefully the leghumpers will even buy her all the items she wants, in her correct size.

She's gorgeous and I totally know what you mean. It is really hard to find undergarments that fit properly, and I had the same problem with clothing. Everything looked sexy on me no matter how much it covered. Even turtlenecks clung in the worst ways. You can't easily hide your shape or breasts when they get to be a certain way.

I saw a TV expose about how actual department stores put returned, used bras and panties back on the rack and sell them as new.

This right here is why I wash EVERYTHING before I wear it.

Always good to know there are Good Samaritans out there ready to provide unsolicited commentary on peoples' bodies. "Oh, my shoulders are broader than my sisters'? My stomach would be smaller if I ate some steamed broccoli instead of a donut once in a while? Wow, if only I'd known this sooner! Thank you!"

We all saw the Duggars (oh wait - not all of the Duggars...just the women.) go on a rather restrictive, weird diet very recently. And we know that Michelle has a history of eating disorders herself. And we know that the girls already have extremely specific, rigid rules they must follow on how attractive and feminine they make themselves for men. And they believe their bodies and "hearts" belong to their father and then later, to their husband, or to their child as they're a walking incubator, but never to themselves. They have no concept of body autonomy. A woman's body exists to please her husband and carry children. That is dangerous enough as is. They are basically taught that it doesn't matter if YOU like your body, but you better make sure it looks the way other people expect it to.

Sure, anyone is free to comment on their bodies (or whatever else) as they choose, but I just think it's a shame that anyone WANTS to.

Anyway, I doubt even the Duggars take it so far as to share underwear, or buy used underwear. I'm sure Joy-Anna is just fine and is perfectly capable of buying herself a bra. It's not like she's got absolutely enormous breasts and would need a specialist to fit her or something! She is very average for her age. Her sisters are just very slim.

I agree she needs clothes that fit her better. Most of her stuff looks too small.

She is hardly fat though. Anyone that thinks that is a jerk.

I think Joy looks beautiful (and she's nicely curvy but not hugely endowed by any means). I'll put a plug in here, though, for my favorite bra source: barenecessities.com. They carry absolutely every size you could imagine - I wear a 32 E (even after a breast reduction!) and I can only find that size locally in one store. For whatever reason bra manufacturers seem to think that if you have big boobs you must also have a large band size and if you have a small band size you must be an A cup.

It's a bit of a pain to order bras on line since fit is so personal, but the last time I needed a bra I ordered about 12 of them, tried them all on in the privacy of my bedroom and returned all but one.

Edited to add: The reviews on the site are very helpful as well - people tend to be very specific about how the bras fit. They also sell bathing suit tops by bra size; it's the only way I can possible find a bikini that fits.

This also seems to be an appropriate place to put this.

Rebel wife, I am also a 32E post reduction :)

I was sad to see some commenter on a celebrity gossip site called Joy fat. Like seriously? She looks average and healthy to me. It's not her fault that some of her sisters are very thin. I actually prefer her and Jana's body type to Jinger's. I really hope the family doesn't make her join weight watchers (like Jana) and she can embrace her shape. She is just naturally a little curvier and more busty than some of her sisters.

I think Joy is built like Amy besides looking a bit like Amy. Wasn't she and Jinger dieting on one of their shows. Not much was said about it, just that they were watching what they were eating to try to lose a few lbs.

That's a weird coincidence. I did watch the video and I love the Panache bra she talks about - I'm actually wearing one right now. :D

I wonder if now that Joy has been encouraged to leave the Tom Boy life behind, that may account for her curvier shape. She used to rollerblade and run and play with those boys, and burned a lot of calories and now she encouraged in more domestic activities.

I am not implying she has a weight problem just that she is built differently than Jana and Jinger. Jill looks to have a tendency to be a bit thicker through the hips that I think will show up after a few kids.

Really all of the girls are really very pretty, and look health and fit. While the boys might have other advantages, I think the girls really got the lion's share of the looks. Joy, Jana, Jessa and Jinger far exceed their mother in beauty. And I think the little girls will all turn out to be beauties as well. Grandma Duggar is also very pretty, so obviously some of the good looks come from her too.

I like that she starts off by saying "If you're a woman and wearing a bra, you're wearing the wrong size."

Trying to convince women that they are wearing the wrong size is impossible, but I'll keep beating my drum over here.

i'll just throw this out there -- before i was married i prayed that i'd be exactly what my hubby wanted no matter how nature took its course. It's a nice little prayer to help girls let go of trying to change themselves. And it works! It helps a girl to just stop caring what other people think and become comfortable in her own skin.

If this whole body discussion we're having right now is based on what society expects (such an archaic rule to go by) then i wish i could tell all girls -- don't worry, you'll be okay. Think about famous people and people you know in real life who are living fantastic lives even though they don't fit a stupid ideal. Just be you, and make sure YOU are happy with how you are yourself. No matter what a man thinks, or what society thinks, it's YOUR contentment about your body that matters most. Take care of your own happiness first. When you are happy, it will rise above all the outward things that change with the years anyway. You'll fall in love with someone who sees past the outside to the real you.

I was thinking about this thread yesterday, and went to find a bra. I was at Wal-Mart, but I have been the same bra size for ever and have Victoria's Secret measure me every so often to make sure. Well, I hadn't been measured in a while, and my usual bra size didn't fit. I was poking out the sides!!!! So I guess I need to go get measured again, because I don't know if I need a new cup size or a new band size or both

Please please please watch the video I posted above or visit a nordstrom. Victoria's Secret method of measuring is so very wrong.
