A "sinful" iPod search ended Meredith's brother's courtship

What an absolutely miserable way to live. No god could possibly want his/her followers to have so much hate for themselves and the way their god made them to be - human beings interested in sex and learning.

No doubt the pornography he is referring to is looking at girls in jeans, searching the word "kissing" on his iPod and thinking about what it is like to have sex.

Evil. Simply evil. What a horrendous god to give you all these natural instincts but punish you for following through on any of them. Sounds like their god set up every one of his followers to fail from the day they were born.

I've heard my mom call Calvin Klein ads "hard-core pornography." They are indeed quite steamy, but hardly hard-core pornography.

In my experience with fundies, pornography could be something like a sex scene on a tv show. I doubt he was watching actual pornography.

On the one hand, yes, "poor Elliott" but on the other hand, he really doesn't seem mature enough to be some poor girl's headship yet, so it's probably for the best that this courtship didn't pan out.

I think it's sad that he has a normal sex drive but has zero options for exploring it besides marriage. He can't date, can't masturbate, can't look at anything sexual on the internet. His only option was to get married.

My college roommate was an orthodox Jewish and she told me she had several classmates who got married at 18 because they were young and horny. She could not fathom making a lifelong commitment to the first person you wanted to bang but their religion and culture encouraged it.

The way he phrases it - "I was eleven" - sounds like he was molested, or started doing drugs at a very young age. It is that traumatizing for him. My folks were (non-religious but) very, VERY conservative about exposing us to sex, alcohol, and drugs, but I still sneaked peeks at my neighbor's dad's Playboys at age nine. I would have been humiliated if I'd been caught, but it never struck me as tainting my soul. It is natural to be curious. That poor kid:(
