Things you do that are fundie-like

I love me some thrift store hunting-and-gathering and bags of hand-me-down clothes.

Charity shops and Ebay have been a godsend to me when I've needed to replace knackered clothing while skint.

Also, my sex life is practically non-existent. I've only had sex with two guys in my whole life, though I guess I lose points for the fact I wasn't married to either of them. I wear big sloppy jumpers, shirts and T-shirts that hide my cleavage, and always keep my legs covered too, though again I've blown that by using jeans not skirts. I used to be debt free until earlier this summer when I got desperate and needed a payday loan. Never again after getting on their scummy mailing list and being bombarded with phone calls 10 times a fucking day!

I'm still a tight-arsed bastard with a gift for squirrelling pennies though. That'll never change.

Never has sex with anyone other than my husband.

I have some shells that go to elbows and collarbone, and I sometimes wear them under other tops or dresses.

I have a jean skirt which goes below the knees.

My kids don't attend public school.

Females in my family have long hair, males have crew cuts

(Almost) no swearing in the house.

Don't do Halloween.

Have been to weddings where the bride and groom had no physical contact before the wedding.

What is CCM? I keep seeing it mentioned.

I don't know if the "fundie" things I do are really "fundie" or just basic common sense for our location. We keep several freezers of food. We shop at Costco to save money (buy in bulk!) I shop at thrift stores because I don't like to be wasteful. I do buy running shoes (about 4-6 pairs a year) at the specialty store. So I kind of have to be thrifty about other things. I don't eat very much fast food or processed food, I limit my sugar and I, like the Maxwells, think a good vacation includes hiking and kayaking. Although I hike in clothes made for hiking. The SO seems to think that as long as our bodies are covered, we should be able to honey badger through anything. And while I agree with that, I AM more comfortable in pants that fit correctly, hiking shoes/boots, and wool or synthetic layered tops.

I didn't attend public school.

I get overly excited about the mediocre food I cook and think it means I'm an amazing homemaker.

I'm naturally submissive.

I'm debt-free (though I have been in debt for school and am fine with eventually having a mortgage).

I was a virgin when I got married.

I also didn't enjoy sex while I was married. HA.

You know how frustrated this makes me. SEX IS FUN, FUNDIES. For men AND women! It's not something women suffer through to be meek and quiet sumbmissive helpmeets.

I have always tended to bake my own bread, although don't do it much here in Florida because the little beasties in the air do weird things to bread dough.

I almost always wear a couple of shirts together, am VERY uncomfortable otherwise. Don't know why exactly, maybe no reason. Plus, two or more shirts have more fun opportunities.

long curly hair

don't drink, except for medicinal purpose

play piano and have been self-teaching harp and psaltery

shoot back encyclopedic knowledge of the bible (but am weak with the second half of the old testament but have been reading the FREAKY book ofJeremiah which is now my favorite bible book).

rest on sundays, always. which means, no church because come on, that isn't restful :D oh and, don't do church

have hymn singalongs with husband

fully stocked with cream of mushroom soup

wash hands 3 times when I wash my hands

oh and on that note, always remember to observe Maunday Thursday in my own way, which usually means some kind of fellowship of the non-religious kind.

It might not be fun for a lot of fundie women. I mean, just an overly controlling dude grunting away on top of you after lubing you up? Ick.

I don't wear pants.

My husband and I didn't kiss until we were engaged.

My third baby is going to be born about 2 weeks after my second baby's first birthday.

My kids have Bible names.

We don't have credit cards.

I home school.

I home-birth.

I cook mostly from scratch but every once in a while I trow together a tator-tot casserole. ;) But hey, at least I add veggies to mine!

Edit - Just glanced over at the other tabs I have open and... I shop at Azure Standard! ;)

And I read the Bible daily, grind my wheat, bake bread, and all that good stuff.

I listen to hymns and classical music. I love classic rock but I wouldn't feel good if I heard my 5-year-old singing some songs (like the 'Who the f--- are you?' line from The Who), so I decided to just cut it all out.

I can. Like, just, a shit-ton veggies and fruit and now that I have my pressure canner, even some stews and soups. I don't know why but there is some instinctive drive in me to preserve foods despite living in completely standard suburban America. I can feed an orchestra if they happen to swing by my house. I do this on the gas grill now because the side burner is superpowered and I was getting concerned that the steam was starting to damage the cabinets.

I am currently a SAHM... though hopefully this job interview next week will pan out because I have been unemployed way too long for a senior engineer.

And I sometimes wear long skirts, though that's mostly a hippie-chick fetish of the husband's rather than a desire for modesty:)

that sounds exactly like my ex lol. he was nice and somewhat diverse in technique at the beginning of the relationship, but then he started doing less and less until it got to the point where i completely lost my sex drive. the last three of years of the relationship where sexless.

Yeah, it was my ex too. We had sex regularly, but when divorcing, he claimed the last 6-12 months of our marriage had been sexless. I was like, "What! I have shitty sex with you regularly because I'm supposed to and it's good for our marriage and I don't even get credit for it?!"

I briefly wondered if I was asexual after it was over. Then I started dating my boyfriend. :wink-penguin:

I am a SAHM...but it's because I want to be one right now.

I homeschool...but secularly (we use one Christian textbook, Rod and Staff Spelling, just because I like their approach.)

I dress conservatively...but it's because I feel most comfortable a bit more covered up, due to body issues

I shop thrift stores...recycling, baby! And because I don't want to spend $$ on kid's clothes that he'll outgrow two months later

I handle most of the domestic chores- cooking, laundry, cleaning, etc...but it's because my spousebeast wouldn't even notice the mold growing in the corners until it ate the dog, and if he cooked...scary things would happen

I knit and spin...but I'm currently knitting a hat with reindeer in, ahem, compromising situations

Read the Bible...but I'm Quaker, so HERETIC! according to the fundies

haha oh i knew i wasn't asexual because i had a very high sex drive before. i wondered if there was something wrong with me, i went and got tested, went to counseling, all kinds of things. i finally broke up with him, got a couple of toys, and...oh yeah, it was him. :P

Some of these things mentioned are pretty US-centric! Like we don't have thrift stores in the same way - we have charity shops here (UK) which tend to have not as wide a range (especially for plus sizes like myself). I do like using them for homewares though, you can get some nice teapots, mugs etc. Also ebay! Love my discount makeup a bit too much  Tater tots aren't a thing here but I do enjoy some retro-tastic comfort food from time to time, like 60s/70s-style curries with sultanas and coconut. Not remotely authentic but yummy.

I enjoy both traditional hymns and CCM, and I bet some fundies on the more fundie-light side do too. A lot of CCM is really cheesy but no more than a lot of pop music. And Vicky Beeching (CCM songwriter) is openly gay, though a lot of churches won't use her worship songs because of that now.

I wear trousers/jeans a lot but I do like wearing maxi skirts. I have big boobs so avoiding cleavage often just isn't happening unless I wear a rollneck 24/7, but I do like covering up in other ways. I have fair skin so I often cover up much more in summer, liking loose cotton shirts/tunics with cotton maxi skirts or loose linen/cotton trousers. I find that covering up keeps you cooler. I will admit to wearing short skirts (with opaque tights or leggings underneath) a lot in winter though. I'm short and find I need to go either mini or maxi with skirts, anything in-between makes me look stumpy. I get a lot of my more 'modest' clothes from Muslim retailers though!

I think I would enjoy being a SAHW/SAHM, although not forever. I have some health issues which may mean this happens anyway. I definitely enjoy homemaking, and recipes and decor/storage ideas are my favourite parts of Pinterest. I would like to get into dressmaking and other traditional crafts, though not necessarily doing them in traditional ways - I would like to use them in craftivism.

On the un-fundie side - I have a pretty strong personality and don't 'keep sweet'. I attend liberal Anglican churches that are pretty high-church and like ebil Catholic churches. Have no issue with swearing and I wear plenty of makeup (though I know some fundies like the Botkin girls do too). I like really loud lipstick though. Hair is just above my shoulders in a bob. I'm openly bisexual though also actually a celibate virgin - it's nothing to do with being anti-sex, just haven't found the right person yet. I don't drink a massive amount (I prefer a quiet drink at home or a small house party) but I do enjoy it and my church uses real wine!

I do wear long skirts and dresses that would be fundie-approved.

If I ever have kids one day, I would like to have a home birth and stay at home for the first few years of my child's life.

I love casseroles. Especially in the winter. Very much of a comfort food.

I have long hairs, almost Duggar length and I really like it.

I play the violin. I learned pretty young too. :violin: my siblings and I all learned an instrument when we were young. We were her own little orchestra: Guitar, Piano and two violins. We also mainly played classical music. Not a lot of contemporary stuff.

don't drink, except for medicinal purpose

See, just like you, I drink for medical purposes. Never heard: one glass of red wine a day keeps the doctor away? :P :obscene-drinkingchug::obscene-drinkingbuddies:

I've been married forever. I lean toward KJV when I read the Bible. (but am not a literalist by any stretch of the imagination) I did't use any contraceptives for years. (still, no kids) and only took the pill for about 2 years--I liked it, it didn't like me. I work in my husband's business! We have a joint checking account. I can cook, sew, knit and have made my own laundry detergent (don't do that any more) and can grow a garden, can food, bake bread, etc

I have centerpieces and seasonal decor on mulitple tables. :embarrassed:

NO one in the history of my life has called me (or expected me) to be sweet, including my husband. If he was looking for sweet, he'd have kept looking.

Mahalia Jackson singing "Precious Lord" shows up in my playlists quite often.

I wear pink sometimes, including my rain jacket.

I homeschooled, although for reasons very different than why fundies homeschool.

I can quote sometimes usually out of context bible verses to bolster my arguments.

ETA: homebirthed, cloth-diapered my kiddos.

I also do batch-cooking and some bulk-buying, but more because I have a late class schedule and if I don't eat before class, it's after I get home (usually 8pm) and that makes my life easier.

I pretty much dress and do my hair like a Duggar. In my area it's a pretty common look ( not the frumpers, the modern modest they do now). Although sadly, I'm not much more fashionable than Michelle. Mostly I think dresses are more comfortable and I'm self conscious about my arms. I'm actually surprised Michelle does denim skirts, as someone with her body type ( although she's in way better shape than me) and having multiple births, including some c-sections, I find structured waistbands confining and uncomfortable. I would think she'd go for the jersey /flowy skirts with longish shirts over. Or jersey dresses. I really want to get that woman some new clothes.

When my kids were at home they probably believed " casserole" was synonomous with "dinner"

I had a larger than average number of children, and blended family made it almost fundie sized.

I would have KILLED to have been a SAHM, but didn't get to except for a couple of very brief periods.

I homeschooled some of the kids in Jr. High/ High School.

Also would have loved to do a homebirth but complications ruled that out. Still read Ina Mae Gaskin and seriously considered becoming a doula.

Prefer organic and natural remedies when possible.

Have quite a bit of distrust towards doctors.

My kids were packed in to very small spaces.

Oh, that reminds me. Jennifer Knapp, especially her post-CCM work, but some of her early work.

I paid cash for my house.

All of my skirts hit at the knee or below.

I'm very familiar with the Bible and I've read it cover to cover 3 times.

I don't object to processed foods. When I lived in an area that had one, I shopped at Aldi (and liked it.)

I don't like/don't believe in technologies. I think facebook, twitter, instagram, mobile are dangerous.

I eat organic, home-made, food.

I home-made a lot of things, in fact. I value manual labor.

I love long dresses and skirts, and sometimes cover my hairs.

even though I love animals and I'am against animal abuse, I'm not at all in the state of mind "animals are little humans, we must dress them, and never eat them . " Like a little fundie, I love hunting and fishing. I prefer to eat an animal that I've seen die than an animal that I do not know where it comes from. I often attend corridas.

I'm very traditionnal about school and pedagogy.

I am not a Christian, but I love tradition. If I go to a Catholic Mass, I like to listen to Gregorian chant, rather than a stupid hymn.

I am very suspicious about governments and big companies. I do not believe the media because they are owned by big compagnies.

And... I'm a socialist fundie, still believing in Marx, Jaures, and Allende :D

Is Aldi really different in the US than in Europe? In the UK at least, Aldi (and Lidl, the other German supermarket here) sells just regular food you get in a supermarket - less choice, but it's certainly not the supermarket I think of when I think of shops selling mostly processed food. Aldi is particularly good for their cheap fruit and veg deals in the UK, and the middle 'random aisle' selling whatever the weekly offers are (their ski wear is really good btw).
