Benessa's Wedding Invitation & Wedding Week Politics

Starcasm has an article today with a pic of Ben and Jessa's Wedding Invitation. It's interesting that the Duggars have opted for such non-traditional wedding invitations. I like the invites, but I would have expected something more traditional. Maybe they have print these off on their computer and it's cheaper. You JB ...always trying to save a buck.

You can see the invite here: http://starcasm.net/archives/294283

It also talks about how despite it being the week before their wedding, the Duggars, including Ben and Jessa, are out on the campaign trail, giving support to all the politicians they like who share their more fundamental beliefs. When I read that I kind of felt bad for Jessa. I mean, first she gets upstaged by Jill getting married first. Then, when she finally does get engaged, she gets upstaged against by Jill's pregnancy announcement and all the attention going to that. Now, here's it the week before her wedding and her parents attention is on campaigning and politics. It just kind of feels like Jessa and her Big Day isn't getting much attention compared to her big sis and I sort of feel bad about that for Jessa. I mean, it's not like any of these girls have even gotten much of their own special attention. I think that they deserve it for this one day at least. It'll probably be the last time they really get attention for anything other than birthing babies. Not that that is any small feat, but they deserve attention and a little spoiling for themselves I think.

Also, Derick's Mom said in an article that Jill and Derick opted for a Convenant Marriage which holds the couple to a higher standard and has more restrictions on divorce. I wonder if Ben and Jessa will go the same route. I think that will be a mistake in Ben and Jessa's case because I think it will prolong a lot of misery for Jessa in the future. I know it's horrible to assume their marriage won't work out just days before their wedding, but I really don't have a good feeling about it (compared to Jill and Derick). Still, it's not like I know that all that well so maybe they will surprise me and be a great match.

It also feels kind of like bad timing that this week (tonight I think) is the 2 hour special of Jill's wedding an meanwhile Jessa's wedding is only a few days away. Just sort of takes away from Jessa's day imo. I wouldn't want to do that to my own kids. I would try to make sure either Jessa's day was at a completely different part of the year, or something, but only a few days apart? Seriously? Then, on top of it all, Jessa and Ben aren't going to be getting any mansion to move into after the wedding. I hope they get to go on a good honeymoon. At least Ben's family seems extra excited about it all, so I'm sure that helps, but still. It's like the Duggars were all about Jill and Derick but with Jessa and Ben... meh

I have been to 9 weddings in the last 3 years- 1 more to go. Most of the invites have been very casual. I think that's what the trend is now.

Jim Bob- how about James Robert??????

The last few weddings, the last few years, all couples in their 20's - postcard, save the date type things.

In Arkansas, Covenant Marriage is a type of marriage that is legally distinct from other marriages. Now the Duggars can be even more smug about how morally superior their courting and marriages are. :angry-banghead:

Looks like this is only recognized by a few states and Florida is not one of them- so that means Josh and Anna are not in a Covenant Marriage....

1 point for Jill........

I like them, I was just surprised because they are so traditional and old fashioned in so many other ways. Still, I think it's a cute trend.

Shows how old I am! LOL!

I wonder if that's the way Jessa wants it to be.. no publicity. Not everyone likes living in a fishbowl.

Agree.

I think a VSE would be great- 1 and done.

Yeah, Jessa is SO private and it really is not fun to be a private person but have to "perform" in your own life. But the fact that Jessa is out on the campaign trail too actually makes me feel better because I was imagining her home alone with the tiny ones and Grandma doing last minute wedding stuff while everyone else focused on the election. It still seems sooooo odd to make the wedding date the weekend before the election but maybe she loves November and the rest of the month is taken up for the family?

Anyway, I'm glad she seems to have more privacy and isn't being ignored this week exactly.

I was thinking about this, maybe TLC decided to make the scedule this way to keep te leghumpers happy.. Like: Okay you guys can't watch the Benessa wedding yet, but here's the Dillards wedding! Have fun!

something like that...

I get that fundies are big on authority over women, I cringe every time I see a woman addressed as Mrs HusbandsFirstName HusbandsLastName. Like.....when you get married you have zero identity of your own? Mrs Michelle Duggar doesn't make me cringe, but Mrs Jim Bob Duggar does.

Then again, maybe it is my Quebec upbringing and me remembering my own mother angrily calling her mother and telling her not to ever do it again when she addressed a letter to her as 'Mrs DadsFirstname DadsLastName' because she married in Quebec where it isn't changed and she doesn't like being implied she is basically nothing more than Dad's Mrs, even though she loves him.

The only reason the wedding is this weekend os beca use is the Last one before jessa's birthday. Otherway they would have waited to ben's birthday in march, because age differece loocks les. And we know how things work in duggarland

The whole situation is so sad. After courting almost a year too (or has it been longer than a year?), to rush the wedding like this right after a bus trip. I really don't think Ben is JB's first choice. Others have said that whole relationship got away from him and now he can't back out. Plus Jessa had to watch Jill swoop in and hog up a whole year of her own relationship, so that made it more difficult for her parents to convince her maybe Ben wasn't the greatest, and now Jessa's special day is tacked on like an afterthought. The lightning fast Jill & Derick relationship is weird, too, because how long were JB & Derick prayer partners? Hasn't JB known Derick for years? Meh. Reality show timelines, scripted stories... why do i care.

{L_MESSAGE_HIDDEN}:
I just feel sorry for Jessa, because that kind of crowding happened in my family too, and i know what it's like to be the black sheep daughter who gets the shaft. My sister's wedding and mine were only a month apart, she picked her date after me so i couldn't fix it. But anyway, water under the bridge.

I just hope this is going to make Jessa truly happy, and that she doesn't feel slighted. Especially with the housing situation. So much sibling drama now that they're all grown up.

Like jim Bob cares when any of his blessings get married; just as long as TLC films it and pays him, all is good! Also, after watching a few of these fundie weddings, they all seem to lack the seriousness and ceremony of non-fundie weddings to me. This seems conflicting. The fundies model super pro marriage beliefs, yet have very simple and quick wedding events (perhaps the need to get to the honeymoon is the overwhelming reasons!). Makes no sense.

So I know I should know better than to take anything the Duggars say at face value, but it doesn't look great for Jill that she was so overwhelmed and all-consumed with wedding plans months in advance that she literally needed to put her midwifery training on permanent hiatus, while Jessa has it so under control that she can traipse around the state a few days before her big day...

There is something going on with jessa's wedding. I think thi has something to do with thir complete silence about the wedding (and about anything lately). Either TLC has urged the to shut the fuck up, or they are paying the wedding through a big big exclusive (wich would make them have enought money to pay for real workers to do the planning, and they would be free to be doing all that FRC shit

My mother used to write to me... and she wrote that address to me as well... and I lambasted her, too.. she LIKED being "Mrs. Dad." I didn't like being "Mrs. DH." and I told her.. I live in the states.... so we're here, too. :D

That is one of those things in life that really bothers me. The only time I see it any more are the rich elderly dowager ladies meetings of their exclusive luncheon clubs, that they can do these things because their husbands are rich.

Every meeting, a picture gets put in the paper. Mrs. Jim Doctor, Mrs. Bob Lawyer, etc.

Fortunately, that trend is dying out with those ladies.

I agree with this. They do not show any respect for being in the Lord's house and treat the wedding like a big kids birthday party. They need to take their weddings to their own backyard and stay there. They can go barefoot, shave and dress their men and eat popcorn and hot dogs....

I just hope TLC doesn't wait months to show the wedding, if they're going to. Watching the Dullard wedding was pretty boring except for being able to snark in real time with all of you because I'd pretty much seen it all with the People stories and pictures around the interwebz. And I am sooooo over hearing about Jill & DerickDillard.

I get the feeling that Jessa likes to control what the public does and does not see about her life. Instagram and social media allows her to share what she wants to, while TLC controls what is seen on the show. It's entirely possible that she is grateful that there hasn't been much hype over her wedding and that Jill has gotten the majority of the attention lately. Does it mean she isn't excited about her relationship or taking this step? No, of course not. It just means that she isn't comfortable having an entire season devoted to her.

I also don't think it looks that bad for the Duggars that Jill left her midwifery training and Jessa is still campaigning days before her wedding. Midwife training is unpredictable and can be intensive - campaigning pretty much just involves sitting on the bus for a while and showing up on stage when you're told to; easy enough to keep planning while doing that.

I honestly think that Boob didn't intend for them to get engaged or married quite this fast. I think he was hoping that they would court a bit longer, but that pressure from other people (ie. the Seewalds) kind of forced his hand a bit.
