Has this been posted here yet? I love that we get some background information that wasn't fully explained on the show.

Did I break the link correctly? This is my first time.

Wow. Thousands of dollars worth of manicure supplies on top of everything else. The gravy train never ends for these people.

I never heard of Jamberry before. It looks like those nail decals you buy at the drugstore instead of nail polish.

I couldn't help snarking when the author noted that Michelle didn't want to outshine the bride so she took off her manicure and redid it in a more understated way.

It's not like these people couldn't afford to go to the local Asian nail salon and spring for a mani-pedi. Heck, they could spend a day at a day spa if they wanted to and probably would have gotten their treatments for free in exchange for the publicity.

it looks like fun, but it all still seems a bit pretentious, to me. those nail decals and wraps don't even look much different than the drugstore variety, but they probably charge an arm and a leg for them.

Jamberry is the multi-level marketing scam of the moment.

I went to a Jamberry party and it was really fun. I can't see it as something I would do all the time, but my teenaged sister and neices LOVED the wraps. I really do not like going to parties where someone is selling something, mainly due to the pressure to sign up to give a party or sell it.

A bit OT, but what happened to all those fancy hairdo's they tried out a few episodes ago? Nothing special done with anyone's hair for the wedding.

probably just filler for the show.

She had been so excited the whole party, but the minute she saw those polka dots, she squealed like a little girl and bounced up and down in her chair! She kept giggling and saying, “My polka dots! I just LOVE them!

 Of course Michelle acted like a child.

Christian based I take it?

What is it about church-going folk and MLMs? When I lived in Mormonville (Provo UT) every other woman I met was involved in some sort of MLM! Shakeology, do(n't)TERRA, Mary Kay, etc. I don't gt it!

I don't think so. A friend of mine sells them and she's gay, so I doubt she'd be comfortable selling them if the company were super Christian.

I think it's more of a SAHM thing. I've noticed a lot of people I know that became SAHMs started selling stuff like Jamberry, Pampered Chef, Pink Zebra, and Thrive.

The only one I can tolerate is Pampered Chef, because they have some seriously nice stuff.

I'd take Jamberry over It Works any day. The It Works ladies are RELENTLESS! (And I don't care... wrapping yourself in plastic wrap does not sound like a sustainable method of weight loss.)

Reading about Michelle made me sad though. She's a 45/46 year old woman... it's very telling that she acts like an 8 year old getting her nails done. Even Hannie had her ish together better and she fell asleep on the couch. It's just... sad.

Is it similar to Tupperware?

I did that for a while. You just had to be incredibly lucky and in the right place / right time mostly because understandably it's not everyone's cup of tea.

On the other hand, I have tupperware I didn't have to pay for (that I earnt) and it's more than I'll need in a lifetime. Can't complain.

Just another MLM like essential oils, thrive, it works, and sundry other schemes.

I remember seeing them go get mani/pedis before so I doubt it's that, just an opportunity for somebody to sell crap.

I looked up a video for how to apply Jamberry nail wraps on YouTube, and it was different than I thought. I was picturing a product similar to gold leaf. I guess I don't understand why you need heat to cure the nail sticker when you can buy the same thing at grocery stores for about the same price or less. Stick the adhesive nail stickers on and cut them, and they last for about ten days. same as Jamberry, but there's no curing involved. When they start to pull up, rip 'em off, no polish remover required.

Jamberry nail appliques just seem like more trouble for a higher price.

They're tricky to apply at first, but they can last a good month or more. I don't sell them, but I have purchased some, and they're really nice. The varieties are endless and you really do get quite a bit for your money (each $15 sheet can easily give you 2-3 full uses and the sheets are typically buy 3 get 1 free).

Yeah, I know a LOT of women on my Facebook buy jamberry and they LOVE them. The only " parties" I've seen are online. They send out an invite to their fb friends, if you join you get posts from the seller promoting the product , with various fb games and giveaways to get you interested , I think the hostess gets some free nail sheets. I actually liked it because I hate those things in real life, but you don't need to make conversation at these - and no one knows if you bought anything or not ( I didn't, cause I was broke, but wanted to )

Most of these women aren't religious, let alone fundamentalist. I think one might be a SAHM, but the rest work - including the jamberry rep, who it think was a nurse. I think they are popular because they don't chip, have a bunch of designs, have kids patterns, and last forever. I haven't seen any of these women sell other stuff online-- so I think it's just a product they actually like. They are mostly 30 ish working moms of small kids -- so I'm thinking they don't have a lot of time for mani-pedis, and like that it doesn't get chipped right away.

Anyway, I know I sound like I invented the things -- but in my experience I don't think it's neccessarily the same crowd as those other sales programs, although I'm sure there is overlap.

I see, that's very interesting. I had no idea they lasted for so long. Might be worth it to try them if it means your manicure lasts a month instead of just over a week. I've only ever used the nail stickers from the grocery store, and after about 10 days just peeled them off on my own because they were started to come loose at the edges and I worried about getting nail fungus. Never have had a problem with that, but the stickers were getting wet whenever I would have a bath, so I figured it was better to yank them rather than risking a fungus.

I'd have to invest in the heater that cures the wrap, but it sounds like a good idea to try. Thank you both for explaining. :)

We have a little space heater that my daughter and I use, but you can also just use a hair dryer.

I have a ton of JB. The ones on my toes can last 2 months easily. I even wore them to the beach and they stayed on in the sand and everything.

I just went and looked at their site again. Now I really, REALLY want to get my grand kids all the holiday ones. They have little bitty monsters! And turkey's! And Elves! And about a dozen different pretties for myself.

Must step away from spending money I don't have!

I kind of thought Michelle was cute in the episode with the fingernails. Maybe all their lives lacked fun???

She likes bling yet dresses so drab- what a drag for her.

I thought that was a really interesting side to Michelle as well. It makes me wonder why she dresses so drably? She could certainly much more blingy/glam styles that fit her standards and are age appropriate. They don't seem to have any restrictions on colors or patterns. I wonder if she's just so used to having to be frugal that she never breaks down and buys herself something new at Target ? She wouldn't need to spend a lot. Or go out of her own sense of what makes her look nice. I know people give her crap for her hair, but I really like that she seems to keep it because she likes it, fuck the haters.

God I need a life. Now I feel compelled to find a cheap, blingy, modest, age-appropriate, relatively modern wardrobe for Michelle!

JB always seems like he's dicking off-

All the girls seemed like they were having a good time. I am happy about that.
