Many of you are familar with Ben and Katie. They are a fundie lite couple. They were injured in a car accident in 2009 and Ben was left with a TBI. They had a baby boy on October 2nd.

I saw that. I wonder how things are going with them, and if she'll be honest about his reactions to the baby. Good luck to them I guess. Sometimes when my husband is irritating me I joke about having three children instead of the two I actually birthed, but I can't imagine if that were really his mental/emotional level.

I wish them the best too. I think they will get a lot of help from Katie's side of the family. Katie's siblings and their spouses have been pretty helpful over the years. Katie has said that a home nurse goes over. I don't know if the nurse goes daily or not. I have wondered about Ben's mentally capacity. He doesn't seem too verbal, but Katie has posted stuff about Ben having long conversations and I sometimes I wonder if she is being completely truthful. There are some things about Katie that bug me. Her overpraising of Ben's military career bothers me at times. My father was a military veteran and I do have a lot of respect for veterans, but I got turned off where Katie said something about Ben being elite and having many looking up to him. Then I have wondered how Katie and Ben manage to travel quite a bit, buy house, and do other things. I know Ben is receiving veteran and disability benefits, but I don't see how that covers the things he and Katie do. There was a guy on a Facebook page who posted about disliking Katie and her blog because how their economic lifestyle seems unaffected.

Ok... Maybe I'm being too harsh, but the woman's husband got into a car accident. There are thousands of women going through much worse. Say for example; KIA surviving wives, and this lady comes along with her husband that hit an unfortunate everyday occurrence, and she gets a reward for posting about how hard its been, while sporting her middle class life being unaffected? Get real. Poor taste. I'm sorry. There are people dealing with much harder situations that deserve REAL awards. Its sad that this lady is top pick.

I think the guy's comment is a bit harsh, but I get what he is saying.

The photos of Cruz are darling. I am hoping that Katie finds joy in parenting and much help from her family. Her post tonight had a number of adorable photos however I found the following photo beautiful and yet.... jarring. She is a beautiful bear-mama but there is something else that is haunting.

(sorry I don't know how to embed so am linking google --mods please just leave blog if necessary -- katieandbenupdates.blogspot.com/2014/11/and-few-more.html)

So this woman had sex with a man who was unable to consent to sex? Because that seems very wrong. Or did she have IVF? (which is still not great if he is a child mentally because of the TBI)

You might be thinking of a different fundie couple with a TBI husband?

There's Ian and Larissa, Ian clearly not able to consent to much of anything. And Cale and Kathleen of adarlingkindoflife. Cale is definitely intellectually and emotionally impaired. His ability to consent, however, is none of my business.

I get the impression that Ben's TBI affected him physically more than intellectually and emotionally. He seems more functional than Ian or Cale.

I've also gotten that impression.

I hate these winds. They are absolutely HOWLING here in SoCal. Not sure I'll be able to sleep tonight because I'm so afraid we'll get sudden evacuation orders the way we did with the Woolsey fire in 2018. There's no way of knowing when and where a fire might crop up and once it does, there's no containing it in these winds. I'm praying for the safety of our brave firefighters. My heart is with everyone in the Pacific Palisades and in Eaton Canyon near Pasadena.

The world doesn't need more people. If people want to have children, that's fine, but there is no reason we have to keep having more people.

Norovirus sucks, and it's beyond comprehension that donald fucking trump will be president again in less than two weeks. I can't see a light at the end of either tunnel. 😭🤬🤮

The most annoying fundies for me are the people I know personally.

      Winter snack: crispy chickpeas
Preheat oven to 400 F. Drain and rinse a can of chickpeas, then toss in olive oil and whatever spices you like. I use fried chili crisp. Cook for 15 minutes, stir, another 15 minutes, stir, repeat until they're crispy and delicious. Good as a snack, on salads, etc.
I am sharing my super secret chili crisp source just because I love you guys:

Serious question: is there anything men hate more than a woman's strongly held opinion?

Happy New Year, all you amazing people! I just saw a (possibly joking) tradition online called Yule Boasting.

      My quick text version:
i will begin 2025 by distilling a barrel full of tequila from the agave plants in my yard, assisted by george clooney, who admires me greatly and will be sad and heartbroken when my plan moves ahead without further human assistance.
sky-clad, i will find my familiar, a malevolently clever curve-billed thrasher named Willie Wildman. together we will roam my neighborhood, putting together an animal army consisting of a coyote pack, a squadron of javelinas, and my local great horned owl pair, perseverance and ingenuity.
we will all consume mass quantities of tequila, paint our faces blue, and set out on yucca broomsticks to reach our nation's capitol.
we will swoop down on DC, screaming and howling, occupying first the capitol and then the white house, where we will become co-presidents and replace congress with the yacht-sinking orcas of the mediterranean. AND EVERYONE WILL FUCKING REJOICE.

It's crazy to think that it has already been 25 years since we were worried about what would happen when the calendars would switch over to Y2K.
