Maybe I'm overreacting, but isn't it strange she is wearing a "worldy" outfit (at least by duggar standards.) So much for staying away from the world lol. Good for josh and anna. Did bob and j"chelle ever let their girls wear princess outfits.........

They probably didn't have the money, or they weren't "modest" enough.

I couldn't imagine a princess in Plaid (most likely made out of an op shop table cloth) or a prarie dress. 8-)

Mackynzie was darling in a princess dress. Besides she was covered from neck to ankles with sleeves on the dress. That seems "modest" even by Duggar standards. :)

Edited to spell Mackynzie correctly. I always want to go with the Scottish version!

I can't recall ever seeing one of Jim Bob & Michelle's girls in a princess dress. I doubt the older five ever had anything like that. Even if their parents could afford it, those girls weren't being raised to think of themselves as princesses. Their upbringing was all about serving others and learning how to cook, clean, and raise their younger brothers and sisters. With the four little girls, there's more money and they wear more fashionable clothing, but I still can't imagine Jim Bob and Michelle allowing princess dresses, since they are so strongly tied to fairy tales and Disney movies which contain magic, romantic love, and other ebil things. Kynzie's princess dress isn't Disney, but it has already been established that she gets to watch TV and occasionally wear pants. Josh and Anna simply aren't as rigid as Jim Bob and Michelle.

What I'm concerned about is that Michael and Marcus are sitting down having a GIRLIE tea party with plastic PINK cutlery! How will they grow up to be real men if they can't even adhere to the correct Jender roles! Shame on Josh and Anna!

/sarcasm.

A few days ago there was an old photo going around (i think on Jessa's fb) of the 4 oldest Duggar girls playing dress up when they were Kynzie's age. Not exactly princess, but definitely tea party with hats, it was cute.

GASP! SHOCK! How could they?! Don't they know they're supposed to be raising MANLY MEN???

I kid, I kid. Actually, I love it because it reminds me of my own brother who gamely had tea parties, cooked in my play kitchen with me and helped me care for my baby dolls.

He now does the same with his stepdaughter. :D

I think there has been a few episodes where it's shown the little girls in dress up outfits. There isn't one that stands out but I think they have a couple of princess dresses.

While it may not be necessarily a Disney princess dress it is definitely that type. So I think the more interesting observation is that Mackynzie is AWARE of princesses enough to want to be one. We know that she wears pants from time to time and watches TV. Maybe a few Disney CD's too? I am wondering that if off camera their lives are even more mainstream than we see.

The dress looks an awful lot like Rapunzel's dress from Tangled (the gold designs on the skirt tipped me off), so I'm assuming that either they got it because it's probably the most modest Disney Princess dress on the market (besides maybe Elsa's dress, but I guess because a lot of people are hailing Let It Go as an LGBT anthem, that's right out), or they let Mack watch Tangled and she really liked it and wanted to dress as Rapunzel for her birthday. I don't blame her; it's a really cute movie with a good message about being independent and not letting people hold you back or use you (TAKE NOTE, MACK. TAKE NOTE!)

Sleeves and bodice match up! If you watch the hopstoch video super closely, you can see the brooch. The dress comes in a few, slightly different styles that seem to vary from size to size but this is almost CERTAINLY part of the franchise.

 Something secular! Yesss.

Maybe the Keller Grandparents sent her the princess dress for her Birthday. Since they live in FLorida they have to be around all things Disney. I hope Josh and Anna take the kids to Disneyworld when they visit the Kellers. I don't see anything harmful in taking the kids to DW at all. I can see Josh and Anna having as much fun at Disneyworld as their kids would have. Josh especially since he wasn't exposed to the world that much growing up.

I hope Mack has seen Tangled. It seems to me to be a fantastic analogy for the life of a SAHD...

I thought the Duggars went to Disneyland, years ago, on a televised trip out west, that included horseback riding on a dude ranch in Arizona, and ended at Disneyland. It was soon before Josh started courting Anna. Does no one else remember this? As much as I hate the whole Princess thing, ut I also think that its great that Mckynzie is wearing something secular. And the little boys are sitting through a tea party. I get the feeling that the howler monkeys would be allowed (or encouraged) to yell "tea parties are for girls" if they were invited to one.

I don't know if they ever did but the fundies are into hyperfeminity (allowing makeup and nailpolish), so I'm not surprised.

I think it's sweet when Michelle talks about giving her pubescent girls a little gift of deodorant, lotion, lip gloss, nail polish and girly things presumably with feminine napkins when they get their first periods.

The first time Michelle spends one on one time with her kids is when they reach puberty. That period talk has to be awkward.

They did! 16 Kids and on the road I think? The howlers were psyched about meeting Mickey and they all left with some loot (ear hats, clothes). I think some Disney stuff might've had a pass in the TTH, but a lot more is allowed in J&A's home.

I wonder what Disney movies they'd be allowed to watch. Aladdin's a definite no (Jasmine doesn't let her dad pick out her husband and wears some major NIKE-inducing outfits), Pocahontas is also a no (implication that other religions besides Christianity exist, NIKE-inducing outfits, portraying white people as not totally awesome), and I feel like they wouldn't allow the girls to watch Tangled if they realized that Rapunzel is basically the J'slaves and the story is about how much better her life is after she escapes and stops letting her "mom" control her. Frozen is probably not allowed because some see it as an allegory for homosexuality and because it implies that you don't need a man to rule a country or be fulfilled in life. And it implies that locking your children away from the outside world and never allowing them to have normal interactions with their peers and teaching them that their intrinsic qualities are evil and shameful is counter-productive. They probably wouldn't be too into Mulan either, since she cross-dresses and so do the guys, and it's played as totally OK. And because it portrays non-Christian religion in a pretty positive light. Beauty and the Beast might be OK, but Belle is an independent woman who values education over getting married, so maybe not. And Ariel is really immodest. And Tiana runs a business without a headship (and in fact her headship pretty much submits to HER). So I guess that leaves Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, and Cinderella. Maybe The Lion King.

I second that! DC has been good for Anna - she is becoming slightly more integrated with the mainstream.

It's definitely the Rapunzel bling ball gown.

She had it on in that video of her parroting 'what does your daddy do' video. She had her hair pulled back in that one too. Which I silently cheered for because they're always on about hair down is more feminine.

I think behind closed doors the Duggars are more relaxed. I've seen hello kitty a fair few times in IG pics.

Remember, Josh and fam went to Disneyland in one of the first televised episodes as part of a long western road trip. I think we also, see Michelle start to do a little "dance" while at Disney meeting one of the characters. The good 'ol days!

They had limited contact with the Disney princesses, IIRC. The Duggars didn't want the kids exposed to Jasmine from Aladdin and Ariel from the Little Mermaid, in particular. Even Cinderella might have on a gown that exposed too much collarbone.

These are the small signs that show to me that they are going fundie lite imo. They're not going to proclaim themselves Obama voters or anything, but Kynzie isn't stuck in frumpers or prairie dresses, I don't see signs of her being M'Slaved yet (at her age, Jana was already changing diapers), They watch some TV, I could see Anna homeschooling but wouldn't be surprised if she's allowed to have friends outside her siblings and I could even potentially see the Ms being allowed to go to college.

Part of me would LOL so hard at them meeting Ariel, Jasmine, or Pocahontas. So much defrauding!

But I really hope the girls in particular get to watch Tangled, because Rapunzel is basically an SAHD and she only gets her happy ending when she stands up for herself and breaks free from her restrictive upbringing, and then lives life on her terms.
