The 21-year-old, whose comments on abortion and the Holocaust made headlines last month, is sure to incur more online wrath now by merely posting a link.

 

She has been critical of Atheism and evolution before, so linking to a pro-creationism article titled "Does radiometric dating prove the earth is old?" isn't out of left field.

 

Still, it makes it plain as day where she stands here ...

 

The article points out supposed discrepancies in radiometric dating "proving" Earth is, in actuality, not several billion of years old. Just 6,000 approximately.

 

The conclusion of this "study" is as follows:

 

"The best way to learn about history and the age of the earth is to consult the history book of the universe ... the Bible."

"Many scientists and theologians accept a straightforward reading of Scripture and agree that the earth is about 6,000 years old."

"It is better to use the infallible Word of God for our scientific assumptions than to change His Word in order to compromise with 'science' that is based upon man’s fallible assumptions."

"True science will always support God’s Word."

 

Humans and dinosaurs lived together just a few thousand years ago, according to this analysis - who knew? - so don't even think about playing that card.

Ahaha!!!! Has anyone recently read that Jessa believes the Grand Canyon is relatively young and that Ronnie Reagan's dinosaur bone hunting archeologists helped to "build" it? I can't help but feel a bit sorry for her. This is what she was taught her whole life. It's not like she ever had the chance to read independent literature or talk openly to non-fundie people about this kind of stuff.

She probably truly believes this and would be very disappointed if she realized with what kind of *** her own parents brainwashed her and her siblings.

yup, i was taught all the same crap by the ken hams out there (there was another one that came around for a presentation, but i can no longer remember his name :( he's basically a ham clone, though). growing up in that environment, when that kind of information is presented to you, it seems to make sense. and when evolution is vilified and also explained in a way that is totally NOT what it is, it seems really stupid. so that + what seems to be a logical explanation = idiot "science". when i was finally taught was evolution really was in college environmental science, it all clicked and made a lot more sense after that.

I actually posthed to her facebook page when i read the post. i had to really think it through before i did though. had to remember that snark is for freejinger but when dealing with her personally - i had to remember that she really doesn't know any better. she can only spit out what she has been taught. so i watered it down and tried talking to her like i would my own child...here is what i said:

Jessa...i am all for being open minded (even in my old age) but "answers in genesis" as a source for scientific data isn't where I'll find anything to change my mind. While I don't agree with your philosophies about science, I urge you to seek data from objective sources to prove your point of view. I for one will read what you have to say once you do that and bring the information to light. The point I want to make is that we have to investigate both sides of an opinion before we draw a conclusion. I am with your perfect right to hold your belief, but something tells me that you haven't read past "answers in genesis" to come to it. I want you to persuade me...you are a smart girl. Use your intellect, investigate the issue (both sides) and then come to the gate with an argument as to why. I get that you are lobbying for your cause and (while I don't agree 100% - I support your right to do so) - so, go back and read some more, then bring multiple websites to the table.

I was hoping that if i didn't resort to name calling and mean girl tactics that maybe, just maybe she would read it...and if enough people did this - she might not think the "world" was such an awful, horrible place

they probably sound scripted because she's just parroting what she was taught. i had the same growing up. hell, i was congratulated on my ability to memorize the "facts" exactly, whether it was about evolution, "science", (sanitized, revised) american history, or anything else.

I don't put a lot of blame on Jessa. She's purely ig'nant thanks to her parents. She grew up never being allowed to study ACTUAL scientific theories, let alone think for herself. Michelle has mentioned in the past that Jessa was a stubborn/strong-willed child. No doubt extra pressure was applied to break her will.
