When Jana was asked if she is dating anyone

When the girls were getting their hair done, one of the salon ladies asked Jana if she was dating anyone. Her answer caught my attention. She said no, but I swear I saw a smirk or something. I don't usually like to speculate because, really, I have no idea what's happening behind the scenes. But I got a funny feeling watching that. Anyone else?

I feel like she could've been smirking for a few reasons: she really is seeing someone (courting, obvi :roll: ), she gets asked that question allllll the time and is forever saying "no", or she's amused at the woman's assumption that she dates when she COURTS AND GUARDS HER HEART BECAUSE SHE'S WAITING FOR PRINCE CHARMING, DAMMIT. Ok, "the dammit" probably didn't happen in her head, but it did in mine. :D

Yeah, another thing that crossed my mind was that the woman used the word "dating" and they don't date. So that might have been all it was. But I'm curious to see if she is hiding something.

I do hope she at least has someone in the wings. I also noticed that little smirk. I do think it will be at least a full year after Jessa leaves the nest before JB and Michelle will feel comfortable enough to let Jana get married.

when i'm single and asked if i'm dating, i always smiled as i said "no". i didn't have anyone on the side, a lot of times didn't even have a possibility, but i smiled because i thought it would be kind of awkward if i just said "no" and kept my same resting bitch face expression.

so, i'm not really sure if there are any connotations or if jana's just being nice and polite so the hairdresser doesn't feel awkward.

I really, really hope Jana is seeing someone. Just about any man would be better than what she's got now. Truly.

I'm not getting my hopes up with Derick or anything, but please let whoever JB eventually brainwashes into an eternal union with Jana or Jinger be more of a Derick than a Ben (or a David Waller!!!).

And preferably someone with absolutely nothing in common with Josh or John David. They are bumbling trolls. I would shed genuine tears if poor Jana or Jinger got matched up with another immature, useless, receding hairlined Duggar 2.0.

They never (officially) say that JB is his own one person recruitment committee. Jill obviously met Derick through JB but what about Jessa? How did some horny whackjob 18 year old who essentially stalked their family at church because he thought Jessa was hot make the cut? Maybe JB has less power than we think. I mean, Jill obviously is the type who wanted her dad's approval and probably specifically sought him to set her up with someone, but I don't see that as what happened with Jessa.

Yes, when the hairstylist asked her if she was dating (or "courting"), she smiles and says no. She says she's good living the single life and if the time comes that will be great.

I'm thinking one of two things:

1. She really doesn't care or have the desire right now to be married.

2. She doesn't want that part of her life on television and I hope her parents and siblings respect that.

I feel like Jana likes to keep to herself. She's also going to do what she wants. She's a smart girl.

The versions of courting I have seen IRL are more like two kids meet at church or somewhere, are interested or attracted, and the boy approaches the girl's father to ask about courting.

The whole idea overall is try to find someone to marry in a more objective, focused way rather than just marrying that hottie that you love watching TV and playing video games with.

One of my friends was courted when she and her guy were in their 40's lol. They've been married now for about 15 years. She was a virgin, I think he'd been engaged before so assuming he wasn't but I've forgotten. One kid, they seem very happy.

Oh and they met ONLINE on the ebil innernetz. It was kinda funny for some years they tried to keep that info on the downlow but they own it now.

Reminds me of a book I read about a woman who escaped a polygamist cult. When Irene Spencer was 16, one of the elders called her to him and said that twelve different men of the faith had all had a revelation "sent from God" that she was to be their next wife.

Irene couldn't figure out why God just didn't save everyone a lot of trouble and send her the revelation instead. :P She took to calling these testimonies "testi-phonies."

that's certainly an interesting thought. if one of the kids decided to do regular dating, i think they definitely wouldn't want to show it (or at least, feature it as much) on the show. maybe mention it once, just to say, "see, we let our kids choose!!!" and then it's never spoken of again.

only thing with jana is, especially after the book that came out with her and her sisters, she seems to tow the party line when it comes to courting vs. dating, at least vocally. and i dunno, she seems like the kind of person that if she wanted to date, she would have said so. kind of offer it as a contrast to her sisters, like, "my sisters want to court, and that's fine, they're entitled to what they want, but i personally want to date and i don't think that it will interfere with my faith in any way whatsoever. but in the end, we're still a big, happy family."

Unless I'm misremembering, Jana was asked if she was dating in the preview for the salon episode, and she looked way more irritated in the preview than in the final cut of the episode. It looked as if they trimmed her reaction a bit in the show so that she didn't look as upset.
