Someone, please get jill something decent to wear

Jill looks like a ragamuffin beside Derrick. She looks like she takes her stuff up from the floor in the mornings and throws anything on. Mullet is better dressed, it is always a blouse and skirt with her, not fashionable of course, but, serviceable. Surely, she has an allowance from Jim Bob. That old denim skirt which makes her hind quarters look like an extra wide load, I am sure, must walk around the house at night by itself.

The maternity clothes to come will be cringe worthy. "Shudders"

Wow, this is one of the most shallow, petty, and all around bitchy things I've ever seen posted on Free Jinger. That's an astonishing accomplishment, so congratulations.

Yikes! Glad you don't see me on a "normal" day. I wear serviceable clothing on a daily basis because I don't want to jack up my good clothes doing my daily routine. Jill may be on TV, may be working social media to bring money in but she's not a fashion icon. She's a girl who lives in Arkansas which isn't a fashion mecca anyway. Glad you look like a runway model on a daily basis.

I have to say I agree with OP to a certain extent (maybe not as far as the skirt making her backside look big...). Serviceable clothing for everyday is fine... I'm all about practical and comfortable. But the dear girl has been on the cover of People 2x in the last couple of months and the cover of US weekly once. Someone .... from TLC at least, or cousin Amy, or... I don't know, get her on a crossover show like What Not to Wear.. should take her in hand and give her some tips on how to dress modestly without looking like she's colorblind, on those days she's having a major photo shoot.

I didn't see anything from the OP that lead me to believe she was talking about her magazine covers. It sounded like a general statement. Jill's everyday wardrobe is fine. While she hasn't had the best outfits on the cover of the magazines I blame that on the magazine's wardrobe department.

Of all the things this family gives us to pick on, I'd rank a pregnant woman's clothing choices pretty low in the list of snarkworthy topics.

Jill's clothes definitely are't what I'd choose to wear myself (I mean, I'm wearing PANTS right now and they'd probably scream NIKE at my tank top because you can see most of my shoulders) but at least she's not stuck in the Little House on the Prairie dresses anymore.

Personally I think Jill's wardrobe has improved significantly in the last 4 - 5 years. I don't think her outfit choices are all that bad. The ankle length denim skirts are too much, but apart from that it's ok. Also Michelle Duggar also dresses a lot better than she used to.

Lucky you don't see what I wear to work on a daily basis - the building I work in is very old and there is dust all the time (no matter how much we clean). I am dressed worse than Michelle Duggar probably, but at least I get to wear jeans when I want.

That skirt DOES make her look huge. It's so oversized and stiff, it's as if it has a mind of its own. That is a VERY unfortunate look. I cringed when I saw she wore it for the engagement photo shoot.

On board with how wide that skirt makes her butt/hips appear. Jinger seems to have a good self style (liked her in the long dark blue dress last night); maybe she could give Jill some guidance on selecting a denim skirt that fits her better.

I like scarfs.

Last night the episode was on in which the engagement photos were taken. Jill has a matronly look about her. Overall the dress has improved in the last few years for the Duggar females but its okay to dress kinda cute and still meet modesty guidelines. To me it's noticeable that Jill dresses so potato-sackish.

Honestly, she's imitating Michelle. Both when looking for a venue and choosing a bridal gown, Michelle wore that horrid, ugly denim skirt.

It is possible to dress modest and not wear a jean skirt. Jean skirts in the right time and place can be very cute. Jean skirts for every occasion is not cute. Michelle looks ridiculous and frankly, it just lends to the idea that Michelle is not really quite all there.

Sometimes it does cross my mind - would women like Michelle and Jill willingly don a burqa? Because I am thinking they would.

I doubt she'll change her wardrobe from maxi skirts and dresses with cap sleeve tees any time soon. And the scarves aren't going away either.

If she truly wanted new clothing that did make her look more put together, I'm sure she could have asked her headship for a little spending cash to go to the Northwest Arkansas Mall and go shopping at Dillard's or JCPenney and find something a bit more refined, but still modest (you can always wear tights and a cardigan Jill!) on the sales rack. The dress she wore for Derick's friends' wedding in Knoxville over the summer was a perfect example of something modern and modest that could easily be translated to be a smidgen more casual for everyday wear.

But she's still rockin' the giant flower little kid headbands and rumpled twill/denim skirts. It's that rustic modest look that's so popular amongst fundies now. It's not bohemian chic in the slightest. Yes, she isn't wearing a frumper any more, but she still looks frumpy compared to her other sisters (Jana, Jessa, and Joy... Jinger isn't a role model since she's slowly turning herself into a pumpkin. Jinger desperately needs to escape out to a coast city ASAP). She needs to take a look at what Jana has been wearing lately, especially what Jana wore on last week's episode during wedding dress shopping (very put together and appropriate for a modest-conscious woman in her 20s). Even what we've seen of Anna lately (on the show, via Instagram, etc.) shows she's made a BIG change in her dress style now that she's in DC. So much for the better!

I'll admit to wearing maxi skirts and dresses almost all spring/summer long. But that was due to having abdominal surgery and subsequent weight gain (which now I've taken off, :cracking-up: ) and knit skirts/dresses were my easiest choices to not irritating my healing incisions or worrying about buying new shorts/pants. My daily wardrobe now that it's not summer anymore is either a dress plus sweater and flats, or a knee-length skirt/pair of slacks or ankle pants plus fashionable blouse, sweater, and flats. My current wardrobe makes me look like I'm a temple-worthy Mormon (I live down the street from one of the newest temples...), instead of the agnostic heathen I truly am. But it's my hair that gives it away. A shaved head tells the missionaries to avoid me like the plague.

Yes, this may be snark, but when you're in the public eye as an adult, wouldn't you want to look your best?

It strikes me that not only does Michelle drink the cool-aid, she has become the cool-aid. I swear, the blue and the green blouses she wears almost nonstop are the same old maternity blouses she's been wearing for years, right? Her hairstyle hasn't changed, except to become longer. Her attitude seems to be, "If being thrifty is the thing to do, I'll be thriftiest of ALL".. and she hasn't bought anything new for years and years. The menfolk and the girls can get new stuff, but not her.

I think Jill is imitating her to an extent, but perhaps Jill is being ultra-orthodox just until she gets away. Hasn't she worn a few knee length items since she's been married? Prior to that, it all seemed ankle length. Maybe Derick will buy her some cute short things..

Now I know this snarking on Jill BUT I am going to say this...

Anna was wearing some shirt that was kinda peachy colored at the top and a block of black from like... over the boobs to the bottom of the shirt.

That light top color was just amazing on Anna. Her makeup was good too and she looked gorgeous IMO.

I really do think Jill is all about being the perfect fundie girl and she clearly interprets Grandma dress as the way to go.

I have no complaints about her dress style, but I did notice she seemed to stop brushing her hair. Maybe Derek doesn't like the Gothard curls?

I haven't seen the skirt mentioned, but I pretty much always think Jill looks cute when I see her, regardless of what she's wearing. She has an attractive, willowy figure. Again, when you're young, cute and skinny, there's not a lot that looks really bad on you. When I was her age and maybe a little heavier than her (I'm shorter and curvier than Jill when I am thin), even the funny-looking clothes I wore looked good on me.

About the scarves, maybe Jill is just cold all the time? Again, her body type makes me wonder if she simply doesn't have a whole lot of fat and muscle to keep her warm, even in the summer. Some of the longer scarves she wears in particular make me think she's just chilly.

ETA: Jill needs one of those Dr. Who scarves. They're a mile long and perfect for wrapping up in when you're cold. 8-)

I agree that since they've moved to DC, Anna's clothing and makeup seem to be much more flattering to her. The kids were always cute, but their clothing looks nicer, too. Better consignment/thrift shops in DC, I suppose.

I really think Jill's wardrobe is a combination of several factors: modesty (obviously), practicality, and personal taste. We know that the long hair and skirts are a modesty/Gothard issue. It's tough to look neat and tidy with such incredibly long hair! A shorter hairstyle would allow for easier styling. And now that maxi skirts are so "in", the girls seem to buy them up like crazy and wear them because they're readily available. They haven't been raised to spend much on clothes. Jersey maxi skirt + crazy long hair does not = neat and tidy appearance, but it does cover the modesty standards. Also, she's a pregnant stay-at-home-wife, so she's obviously going to dress for comfort, whereas if she worked at an office or something, she might wear more structured, neat outfits. And of course we know that her personal taste is the "vintage", boho type stuff that she incorporated into her wedding, not crisp blouses and hosiery that some fundies wear. And that's fine, but it does lend itself to a "messier" look, which some people like and some don't.

I agree with CorruptionInc. that the girls' wardrobes have gotten significantly better in the last few years. So good for them! I actually think Jill and Derick "go" together in appearance -- he's often scruffy and casually dressed, in a good way! I've kind of enjoyed watching the "evolution" of the girls' wardrobes, actually.

Aaaand I so agree with this. She's been choosing more flattering hairstyles and colors for herself and the kids, and she's just been looking really nice lately. I wonder if living in a more urban area has inspired her.

Michelles style isn't the best but she's changed a bit over the years... by a bit, I mean a TINY bit. But she's definitely changed. She's lost weight and I really noticed that last night when she was wearing the pink button up. But she's gotten the new North Face jacket at least and her jean skirts have fabric on them now and not just strait denim. The changes are minor but they're there.

Anna has definitely developed a better fashion sense over the past few years. She looked quite frumpy when dating Josh and I don't remember her wearing much makeup or doing anything with her hair.

Now, she usually has a well-fitting reasonably fashionable top and skirt along with well-applied makeup and nicely style hair in most episodes. She'd probably fit right in with the other Washington D.C. wives.

Unfortunately, as she's gotten more stylish, her hubby has gotten sloppy looking.

I was thinking along the same lines. That floor length denim skirt is not attractive in the slightest. I did like Ginger's blue dress very much - fits all their modesty requirements but attractive as well. I wonder if Anna is getting fashion/make up advice or learning on her own. Either way, I think she looks very well put together most of the time.

I hesitate to criticize anyone's personal style, as mine isn't anything impressive either. Most days, I wear either navy pants or black pants, paired with a dressy top or blouse and comfortable walking sandals. I wear a skirt or a dress probably once or twice a year, at the holidays. But if I were being filmed for a tv show, I'd definitely be making a little more effort with my appearance.

I actually think the Duggars are pretty fashionable compared to most fundies. The early days were definitely a frumper disaster!

The Duggar kids are usually neat and clean and in outfits that aren't too terrible these days. Most fundies are 20-25 years behind or dress their kids in items that are stained or worn out. In my experience, I meet a lot more families who dress like the Duggars did in the early days than how they do now.

On a recent episode, Derick said that his favorite hairstyle on Jill was when she wears it long with her natural waviness. I think Derick likes Jill's naturalness - she doesn't normally wear a lot of make up, doesn't seem into the self-tanner, etc.

Jill really doesn't look that bad considering that she probably doesn't spend more than $10-$15 on each piece of her wardrobe. The maxi skirts, scarves, and even the gold circle "J + D" necklace she wears all look like they came from a daily deals boutique I occasionally purchase from called Jane.com

I personally would much rather spend $12 on a jersey maxi dress that is brand new than buy a ten year old dress at Goodwill for $6.

Jana and Jinger are the most stylish of the bunch and all of the girls have really improved in the past 4-5 years. Do you remember when they were living in Little Rock? The long, gray, dark wool outfits they wore all through that winter made them look like depressed nuns. At least they are throwing in some color and character now. If mini skirts and pixie cuts are the big thing in a couple of years they are going to really stick out like sore thumbs again though.

My sweet pup was diagnosed with a brain tumor in September. She passed away in my arms on Thanksgiving morning. It all happened so fast. She didn't want to eat anything the day before, but prior to that was ok. Knew it was near time and had booked an appointment to take her next week. However, she decided for me. She was only 8 and really was one of the best dogs. She never met a stranger, human or dog. Life isn't the same without her.

I made my first Granny Square! After nearly 30 years of knitting and crocheting this was a project I never did. Until now! I needed something to do with my rest of very colourful yarn and now I am very happy. I need to try different needles with my yarns but I think I found something nice for the future.
I needed only 3 different youtube videos until I found a person who explained the concept slowly and repetitive and with words I can understand. I hate when these tutorials make me feel dumb.

We had to put our 14 year old dachshund, Trinket, down today.  She was fine Thursday, but by mid-morning yesterday, it was apparent that something was really wrong,  She had zero energy, lost her appetite and began walking into corners.  By morning I knew it was time for her to have her final visit to the vet.  She had lost about a pound and a half recently.  RIP, Trinket!
