Josie and the National Anthem

Josie sang the National Anthem on one "Dishing with the Duggars" episode:

Interesting. Her pitch is excellent and she can really belt it out, with a quaver in her voice.

On the other hand, her enunciation is still pretty dreadful.

Wow. Shockingly good. I'd listen to that a thousand times before I'd every want to hear the usual Duggar caterwauling that they screech out at their appearances.

Cute, but I also think its a gimmick. I think the Duggars know that most of their fans ADORE precious miracle Josie and will milk her for all she is worth. Josie is the one that gets asked about in every social media post they have, the one everyone wants to meet and have their pictures taken with, the one whos photos get "So cute!" while the rest of the little girls don't get much, AND she gets her parents attention.

Anyway, I really think Josie is the one they are going to "sell" the most, if that makes sense.

Cute! She sounds pretty good especially for a nearly 5 year old. She may even have some real talent.

I feel badly for Jpsie and think she may have a tough time as she grows up more than likely she'll be expected to be the perfect miracle child expected to be the face of the family brand/ beliefs which is a ton of pressure.

She'll never get to just be Josie instead she'll grow up as a character

Then there is the relationship with her siblings. Her sibling closest in age may end up resenting her over the special treatment and as as a result no ave a close relationship.

Could be a lonely life for this little girl. I feel as sad for her as I do the other kids just in a different way.

For a kid to be able to sing something as difficult as the national anthem so well at such a young age is pretty impressive. It's too bad that she will likely never be afforded the opportunity to learn under a real, degreed vocal teacher and take her talent to a conservatory. Josie likes attention. I think she'd love to join a children's choir and later take solos as a star soprano.

There are fundie kids choirs like the Lancaster Children's Choir

mennonitechildrenschoir.org/choirs.html (i had one of their fan t-shirts back in the day. not an equal substitute for n sync unfortunately lol)

I can see Michelle loving that  Josie can't be the only talented Duggar girl, mbe with the TLC money they can let Jenny and Jordyn pursue something they're good at, to offset jealousy. (long shot on the last part, though)

I'm a little surprised that they let her sing a non-religious song. The last verse (no one knows but the SSB has four verses and the one ya'll know is only the first) at least mentions "in G-d is our trust" but it's still not a religious song.

I'm surprised at the way all three girls are dressed. I see knees and a clearly defined bustline  on Jessa, arms on the lost girl on the left, and because of the way they're sitting I'm pretty sure I'm seeing under thigh on both of the little girls :naughty:

Throughout the video, it looks like Jessa is practicing her "I admire my headship!11" stare on Josie.

I'm so envious that I don't have little sisters.

it's the national anthem, though. 'merica.

i remember back when my parents were fundie and we were ati/borderline, i was still allowed to listen to and sing patriotic songs. cuz 'merica.

Wow! That's raw talent for a kid that small. The national anthem is a hard one.

Now we know why Josie gets so much attention...she can be their cash cow when all the other kids are gone and they don't have income from the show anymore. Truly a miracle baby. Praise God.

Michelle's already written off getting anything useful out of "serious Jennifer" or the other ones in her "littles" group. She better watch out for Jennifer. I don't think she's going to be an easy teenager!

Wow, that was impressive. And to the "enunciation is still pretty dreadful" she's 4 ! 4 FFS.

i usually have to sing all four verses during 4th of July weekend at my church...our organist loves choosing it as one of the hymns...usually our recessional.

Adorable! Thank heavens it wasn't that awful blood song.

Or "Amazing Grace!" Though I should say the first stanza of "Amazing Grace." Do they even know the rest of the darn hymn?

If I have to hear them sing that song one more time I will rip the TV off the wall and throw it out the window.

That's quite impressive for a 4 year old. She sings a very difficult song and sounds like her pitch is pretty accurate. I hope she doesn't start copying the other girls with there horrible nasal country sound. She has some actual musical talent (I don't think any of the other Duggars have any at all) and I hope she is allowed to foster it.

Maybe Josie will end up following in cousin Amy's footsteps? We can hope!

No snark, that was actually quite good. I studied voice in college with a few singers who had worse pitch than this 4 year old.

She really is a very good singer. Great pitch, good breath control (especially for a four-year-old born with severely underdeveloped lungs), and she already has some vibrato going. Even experienced professional singers find the national anthem tough, so I hope the Duggars recognize Josie's potential and get her some lessons!

Awww...I'm sorry, but that was cute! :-) Is it wrong that I wanted her to yell, "Play Ball!" at the end? :cracking-up:

My nephew is 4 (10 mos younger than Josie) and is significantly advanced (no seriously, he's been tested...not just a proud Aunt) and he couldn't sing the National Anthem to save his life.

Edited because sign =/= sing

Am I the only one who wasn't that impressed? I guess I don't know what 4/5 year olds usually sound like. I've heard some really good 7/8 year olds in real life. I'm not convinced that being good at age 4 means she'll be spectacular as an adult, vs just being an adult who can generally carry a tune.

I hope Josie breaks away and turns into a real Southern party girl. Wet t-shirt contests, electric bull riding, and karaoke in bars

My sweet pup was diagnosed with a brain tumor in September. She passed away in my arms on Thanksgiving morning. It all happened so fast. She didn't want to eat anything the day before, but prior to that was ok. Knew it was near time and had booked an appointment to take her next week. However, she decided for me. She was only 8 and really was one of the best dogs. She never met a stranger, human or dog. Life isn't the same without her.

I made my first Granny Square! After nearly 30 years of knitting and crocheting this was a project I never did. Until now! I needed something to do with my rest of very colourful yarn and now I am very happy. I need to try different needles with my yarns but I think I found something nice for the future.
I needed only 3 different youtube videos until I found a person who explained the concept slowly and repetitive and with words I can understand. I hate when these tutorials make me feel dumb.

Someone please remind me to buy peanut butter. Seriously, I have been meaning to get some for at least three weeks, and everytime I remember, the shops are already closed!

We had to put our 14 year old dachshund, Trinket, down today.  She was fine Thursday, but by mid-morning yesterday, it was apparent that something was really wrong,  She had zero energy, lost her appetite and began walking into corners.  By morning I knew it was time for her to have her final visit to the vet.  She had lost about a pound and a half recently.  RIP, Trinket!

Horrific! A 6 year old boy was murdered, and mother severly injured, in a hate crime in Chicago. Reports say they are both Palestinian Muslims and were specifically targeted because of that. Thankfully the man who did it is in custody
      This is pure evil
