Jill and Derick's 4,000 square foot Love Mansion

According to a new article by Star Magazine (http://starmagazine.com/2014/09/03/jill ... -landlord/) Jill and Derick are living in a 4000 square foot "mansion" and Jim Bob is their landlord.

"ans of TLC’s 19 Kids & Counting will recall the episodes that saw the patriarch recruiting his army of children to help clean up the four-bedroom home, dubbed The Stoney Brook Project, after purchasing it from the bank in Feb. 2012. Viewers will be stunned by its transformation, which will be shown in the new season, the show’s eighth, which began on Sept. 2.

While the home was purchased for a mere $95,000 when it was a wreck, it’s now worth an estimate $1.5 million, thanks to the Duggars’ renovation and its prime location on undeveloped land near the Walmart headquarters in Bentonville, Ark., where Derick works as an accountant."

There is quite a bit of discussion about the house already in the new season thread.

How long do you guys think they'll be "allowed" to play house sitter there? I think it's weird, why wouldn't JB want to sell it right away? Some of the other girls were talking about how Jill might have her first couple kids there...

They'll be allowed to play house there for exactly as long as they're willing to do things Jim Bob's way. I don't think he did this for Jill and Derick out of the goodness of his heart, he did it as a means of control so he can have them close by for the dog and pony show.

My personal hope is that after Jill has some time to adjust to married life with Derick, she'll want to move off the property. I don't see them budging until after Jilly Bean arrives, but it would be wiser for Derick to find them a home elsewhere before Jim Bob gets his hooks in too deep.

Will Jill be able to be content with a more modest home that Derick can actually provide?

I'm betting it will be a long time before they move out of that house.

I really believe it's a case of 'my house, my rules'.

They never had a chance to do what the majority of engaged couples do. Find a cheap apartment, furnish it and what not. They went from zero to a hundred. JB would have realised they would have been sort of stuck and saw it as a chance to jump. Now he can dictate what they do (filming, appearances) and use the house as leverage.

I don't think it's a matter of having to live by JB's rules, or he even having to enforce any. Mainly because I think these kids are so damn brainwashed that they will simply just live as JB raised them...errr,"trained them up," to think. They have no idea of any of this and would deny it. They have choices. They just believe you have to do everything Gothard has instructed them to because that's what they think is right. I think they even think about it all and yet come up with this is the way to do it. This is what Christ wants. I probably sound like I am contradicting myself some but I trust you guys know what I mean and that I don't need to write an essay on the conditioning of the mind after years of spiritual abuse.

I only feel badly slightly because of the house because there's a good chance they will not be able to provide each child with such a gift! And it is a gift to me.

I think Jill and Derick will be able to stay in that house as long as they stay in the area. Didn't they say they were interested in overseas missionary work?

I don't see that missionary work ever happening. I see Jill delivering the baby she's carrying and then popping out baby after baby for the next 20 years or so. No room for travel there. :|.

I could see them doing missionary work even abroad. I think if Dericks mom were to pass away I could see that really influencing him to leave. Baby or no baby.

It all depends were the Lord is leading them after they pray about it. Jb being derriks prayer partner probably means he is his accountability partner too - so I'm sure they'll pray on it together. They don't make decisions, they go where they are called to minister. Having their ministry mindset and all. Jills there to be supportive . So they don't know if they'll go overseas because the Lord has yet to reveal that.

I tried typing that with a straight face but failed. These ppls answers to everything is so predictable. If they were here ^ that's what they'd say!

Although I think the house is beautiful, I highly doubt that it is now worth $1.5 million dollars due to Jim Bob's fixing it up. If he paid $95,000 for it, no way is it now worth $1.5 two years later. It doesn't appear that he has done an enormous amount of work to it. Just clean, paint and some repairs. If location made the house so valuable, it would have already been worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, if not a million, at purchase because of the land, not the house. Plus this is Arkansas. You don't see that much of an increase in value in higher real estate markets like California so I don't see it happening there. It is just another way to make it look like rich Jim Bob gave his daughter a million dollar gift.

There is a big discussion over on Previously TV about how the $1.5 M is for the parcel of land around the house and saying that is still bank owned. The house itself sits on about an acre and is appraised for less. I can't vouch for the info and it's too late at night to go researching. If no one else has by morning, I'll try to look into it.

I hope that Dill secretly save the money Derrick earns from Walmart/TLC payments for a couple of years as an escape fund then they can truly be free of the dog & pony show.

Sadly I think Jill is not only drinking the Kool-Aid but bathing in it daily.

I had a lot of respect for Derick until I saw that he was totes okay with taking the love mansion for free. Those two are forever enslaved to JBoob as long as they live there and probably later down the road. I can just hear him saying "Don't you remember when I let you live in the $1.5mil house?!"

I get the sense that apartments are somehow wrong to fundies. Maybe because they can't house oodles of kids?

Forget Josh and Anna's reaction....imagine what is going on in Princess Jessa's head! She's probably kicking herself that Jill beat her to marriage and got the big house and, unless JB pulls some bonus mansion out of his sleeve, she will have to settle for Josh and Anna's old shoebox. I can already picture the crossed arms and stomping foot "but that's not FAAAAIIIIRR!!!!!!". What a sad consolation for Jessa who is already having to settle for Jim Bob Lite.

When they give one couple something as big as that, its really unfair on the others, as they are never going to do the same to the other 17 unmarried kids. Josh didn't get a big house, but Jill did, and I bet none of the others will either, especially the younger ones who will probably get less as people are no longer interested in Duggar weddings, and the oldest ones got all of the best stuff so theres nothing left for them. Jordyn will be lucky to get a trailer (but I bet Josie will get something nice, as she seems to be Michelle's favourite kid)

I wonder what Jessa is going to get. If its more normal sized for a first house, like what Josh got, I think she is going to be really pissed off. I think she will run Jimbob over with the bus if the shed that Ben lives in is their new home. She certainly isn't Jimbob's favourite kid.

I do think letting them live rent free is a control move though-they get a nice house, so they feel like they need to keep on following the rules to please Jimbob as a thank you for letting them live there, but also they know that their nice house could be taken away if they get on the wrong side of their parents and will be buying industrial shelving for bunk beds five high for their tiny two bedroom new home.

Do you think Jessa and Bin could move in with Dill? Since you know, Bin mows lawns for Boob for a living.

Or live with Ben in the shed.

I think JB better be careful with Jessa. She can fight back against him.

I don't think Jill and Derick are going anywhere! Stony brook is going to be their's even if they have to buy it themselves. Jim Bob is one mentally disturbed individual and definitely is using the house as leverage with Derick. Notice that when he walked around the place pointing out his favorite room he was definitely the smug owner? He had a twinkle in his eye when he bragged about it being a surprise for them and had an entire crew of people cleaning it up without Jill or Derick in sight. Go clean up your own mansion, Dillards!! Josh and Anna and Grandma certainly shouldn't have been there. Seeing Jana cleaning the master bath made my heart sink a little. Your 24-year-old sister isn't your maid, Jill.

Jessa mentioned this in the episode. She said Ben & I could live downstairs and I guess we could share the kitchen. Then she laughed it off. Too bad Jessa was never allowed to see the Brady Brides.

My sweet pup was diagnosed with a brain tumor in September. She passed away in my arms on Thanksgiving morning. It all happened so fast. She didn't want to eat anything the day before, but prior to that was ok. Knew it was near time and had booked an appointment to take her next week. However, she decided for me. She was only 8 and really was one of the best dogs. She never met a stranger, human or dog. Life isn't the same without her.

I made my first Granny Square! After nearly 30 years of knitting and crocheting this was a project I never did. Until now! I needed something to do with my rest of very colourful yarn and now I am very happy. I need to try different needles with my yarns but I think I found something nice for the future.
I needed only 3 different youtube videos until I found a person who explained the concept slowly and repetitive and with words I can understand. I hate when these tutorials make me feel dumb.

We had to put our 14 year old dachshund, Trinket, down today.  She was fine Thursday, but by mid-morning yesterday, it was apparent that something was really wrong,  She had zero energy, lost her appetite and began walking into corners.  By morning I knew it was time for her to have her final visit to the vet.  She had lost about a pound and a half recently.  RIP, Trinket!

Horrific! A 6 year old boy was murdered, and mother severly injured, in a hate crime in Chicago. Reports say they are both Palestinian Muslims and were specifically targeted because of that. Thankfully the man who did it is in custody
      This is pure evil
