"‎Anti-Discrimination Ordinance City Coucil Meeting--WEAR RED!

I just got an unsolicited, automated call from Michelle Duggar 501-301-4609 stating that men posing as women and charged as sexual predators will be using the restroom along with my children and telling me to vote no to keep Fayetteville safe. When I returned the call it went to an automated message for Paul Caldwell for state rep. Needless to say, I returned their call and explained to them how ignorant I feel their message is and that they should never call me again. I'm utterly disgusted with this! Turns out, they're going to Fast Lanes for some clean family fun tonight at 7:30...I think I'll go there and use the men's restroom all night just out of spite."

This ordinance is a Fayetteville City Council ordinance that bars discrimination in housing and other things for LGBT individuals. There is a lot of controversy over it. But thing is, Michelle Duggar doesn't live in Fayetteville! It's ridiculous that they stick their noses in city matters outside of their own city.

Hello, this is Michelle Duggar. I’m calling to inform you of some shocking news that would affect the safety of Northwest Arkansas women and children. The Fayetteville City Council is voting on an ordinance this Tuesday night that would allow men – yes I said men – to use womens and girls restrooms, locker rooms, showers, sleeping areas and other areas that are designated for females only. I don’t believe the citizens of Fayetteville would want males with past child predator convictions that claim they are female to have a legal right to enter private areas that are reserved for women and girls. I doubt that Fayetteville parents would stand for a law that would endanger their daughters or allow them to be traumatized by a man joining them in their private space. We should never place the preference of an adult over the safety and innocence of a child. Parents, who do you want undressing next to your daughter at the public swimming pool’s private changing area? I still believe that we are a society that puts women and children first. Women, young ladies and little girls deserve to use the restroom or any other facility in peace and safety. Will you speak up for protecting women and children? Call 575-8330 and tell the Fayetteville City Council members and Mayor Jordan to vote ‘no’ on ordinance 119. The number again is 575-8330. For more information please go to www.freefayetteville.org. I'm assuming that the "men posing as women" horseshit is specifically referring to trans people. If my assumption is correct, J'Chelle can go sit on a cactus and think about how awful her statement is. Because trans people deserve to use the bathroom without being assaulted.

First time poster, long time lurker. I live in Fayetteville, Arkansas, and this local article just popped up in my facebook feed. Michelle Duggar is being used as a robocaller in opposition to a proposed anti-discrimination ordinance that will soon be voted on by Fayetteville's city council. The logic being used to challenge the ordinance is stunning. I am still trying to figure out what percentage of the population of my town falls under "predatory men with past convictions pretending to be female in order to use women's restrooms". The entire call transcript is included in the article.

"If the proposal is approved, landlords and business owners could be investigated and prosecuted for unjustly evicting or firing someone because of their sexual orientation, gender identity, socioeconomic background, marital status or veteran status."

I love when they ignore 3/5 of those points to focus on the 2 that make them uncomfortable...

Wow. Just wow. The Duggars are really amping up the discrimination crazy this season, aren't they? Makes me wonder if they feel like they're being left behind by mainstream secular society. "But we stopped wearing frumpers as a compromise, you guys were supposed to like us and do what we say in return!" Disgusting.

Honestly, if they don't stop this discriminatory bullshit, people are going to get tired of them pdq. As it is, they are on my last nerve.

ETA: The fact that she seems to think that all (or even most or a few) trans people are sex offenders is DISGUSTING.

Big logic fail here. How in the world does this legislation prevent a sexual predator from putting on a dress and entering a women's bathroom? Or dressing as a man and entering the men's room?

Keeping your kids safe from sexual predators has everything to do with common sense (go in with your child, choose a well-lit, busy restroom area) and nothing to do with LGBT folks using the same bathroom you use.

males with past child predator convictions that claim they are female

Is this her definition of transgender or is she saying these men will use the restroom too if we make allowances for transgenders?

what would the duggers know about sexual predators? they support a large one. and not a word about doing anytime about it.

I went to the bathroom at a mall and a farther had his little girl in there waiting along with her brother. I guess I should have called the cops in case she attacked me. Duggers and stupidity run hand in hand.

their beliefs seem to create them not prevent them.

So, to clarify, the ordinance just keeps people from being fired or evicted for being gay, but Michelle is spreading misinformation about the bathrooms. That is what I got from the news articles. It's a conclusion they're making that isn't actually happening.

Jeremy Flanagan, pastor at Pathway Baptist Church in Fayetteville, said protections based on gender identity could lead to women going topless at public swimming pools, men using women’s restrooms, or women entering men’s dressing rooms. He also said if the ordinance is passed, it would be “opening a door†for pedophiles and sexual predators who wish to abuse people.

Could lead to. Opening the door. Slippery slope. Fantasy land.

This. They always get riled up and hysterical about some stupid bullsh*** like ebil gays destroying marriage, trans people using bathrooms and what not. But when they get faced with a real sexual predator, they don't do anything and act like it never happend.

Men like Bill Gothard are a much bigger danger to children than men dressed as women in bathrooms. Especially since a real child predator can get into a womens bathroom anytime in disguise, they don't dress up like obvious trans women as that would get them noticed.

When Anna is out shopping ALONE with the children, what bathroom do they expect her to use? Do they expect her to leave her two young sons outside?

Call the police! When I'm out with my four year old niece and nephew, we use the ladies' room. CALL THE POLICE!

Sometimes I wonder what it must be like to be anti-anti-discrimination. It just baffles me that people are against others having rights...

^^^^^^ THIS. The stance they're taking on it, "Pedos in the rest rooms, oh my!" is disgusting. It totally ignores what the legislation is actually for: ensuring that people have equal rights to housing, jobs, etc.

It sounds like they're PRO families with young children and PTSD-suffering vets getting kicked out of their homes simply because they're vets or have children.

everyone pretty much said it well so I don't have to say anything. Still, I'm surprised people still go nuts over someone having to use a bathroom. I don't care about who uses the bathroom as long as it is well lit, decent, and clean. Yeah bad things happen on occasion, but I highly doubt it is some person that they stereotype as a weirdo in a dress. It's more likely the friendly neighborhood pastor, for all one knows.

Plus, we ran into this issue with Sevy- one of her friends is a transgender child, so we are learning about those issues as we go along, but the bathroom issue did come up. I told Sevy that her friend could use whatever bathroom was available, I didn't care what the sign said. If you gotta go, you gotta go and I would take care of anything if anyone had a problem.

What exactly are they expecting would happen in the women's restroom? They're gonna see a hairy mustachioed man in a skimpy red dress and heels? Washing his hands afterward? OH THE HORROR!

THAT COULD HAPPEN NOW.

Newsflash, Duggars: You're not going to be able to tell a transgender person through a cursory glance in a public bathroom. The fuck do they do in there, open the stalls and inspect?

They don't even know what a transgender even is. Plus their fear of men that can't control themselves so if they see a female peeing they will hop on her and start humping like a dog.

Ummm...Anna is not allowed out shopping alone. Camera crew, Josh or in-laws are with her. Problem sloved. See how chaperoning is always a good idea; it's not just for courting any longer!!!

True. Transgender to them is a sick, twisted individual... a pedo man wearing a dress ala Norman Bates. They're too ignorant to see the world for what it is, or even to know they're ignorant.

This one really has me riled up.

Obviously statistics are usually ignored by conservatives of all stripes, but just for my own confidence as a would-be ally I'd appreciate if someone could point out some solid refutations of this horrible "trans women = pedophiles" thing. There's someone I know who spews this crap and I'd like to be able to refute them next time it happens.

though there are some gay pedo's the majority are straight and often married. But the duggers think rape is caused by woman and men can't control themselves.

Don't child sex offenders have to be a certain distance from places populated by children, like public pools and parks? (Also, Michelle Duggar would never let her own children go to a public pool in the first place, much less change there. They'd be in their wholesomewear before ever arriving.)

I mean, I'm from a different part of the country but there was a member of my extended family who went to prison for possession of child pornography, and though there were no personal accusations against him from anyone, the limitations of where he was allowed to live and even go to were very strict. I very much doubt that any convicted sex offenders would be taking advantage of an equal-rights legislation to make an attempt to prey on children (or adult women, who she also includes in her message, for some reason. Shouldn't adult women be able to see a potential predator and report them? Wouldn't children or women in a public restroom with stalls feel that something was inherently wrong with a stranger trying to join them, or watch them, or whatever the hell she's insinuating here? And really how many transgendered individuals would even risk changing in a public area? )

I would like to add (in addition to my previous comment) that Michelle has no right to say anything about "sex offenders" using public restrooms. She herself has sent her own daughters to a camp headed by a REAL predator, who insists on spending one-on-one times with each of the girls. Hypocrite.
